The oldest known taxidermy horses
This is the second oldest horse mount, mounted in 1633. The horse's name is Streiff and he was the favorite horse of king Gustav II Adolf of sweden. The king died in a battle in november 1632, and Streiff died in december or januari of his injuries.
He may not be perfectly accurate but remember that he was completely hand made, from wood and hay and with painted wooden eyes and without any of the easy premade forms or eyes available today. His head was carved from wood. It's nearly 400 years old and it not only survived all those years, but also a fire (well, minus his ears and the fur on his nose). It is amazing this old mount still stands, and in this condition!
Especially if you know the oldest horse mount (known as Schwedenschimmel, died in 1632) was also owned by king Gustav II Adolf, and looks like this:
Not the best, but still doing pretty well for the oldest mounted horse specimen!
