Whumptober 2025 - Day 12 - Dizziness
when everything fades and it feels like static noise invading space

Great and now there's this. Theres truly no room for an ounce of complacency this is a direct attack on queer creatives.
Here's a link to the whole thread for more context
though i haven't been active in a while on this blog, i think this is something very relevant to whump-related content, since a lot of it is very queer, very transgressive and bloody and violent and everything that would scare off a credit card company.
several steam games have already been taken down on account of this new policy. while i'm not all that depressed over not being able to buy "Interactive Sex - Queen Prince Incest Episode 2" on steam, this is indicative of a very worrying trend: payment processors dictate what gets to have an on-line presence and what doesn't. something similar has already happened over on patreon where content deemed to contain "sexual torture" has been essentially banned - not because it was something illegal or dangerous, but because it was just a little bit too risky and gross for mastercard or visa. all this only to comply with the requests of credit card companies and banks that process payments.
worth noting that the group (called "collective shout") which lobbied for payment processors to enforce this has only recently gone after low-hanging fruit like incest porn games. previously, they tried their best to get "Detroit: Become Human" and (of course) gta removed. obviously, they failed, but it should be pretty clear that it's not about "protecting" anyone or combating a "porn addiction epidemic" as they claim, but about limiting forms of expression they deem to be "degenerate".
as the thread linked above points out, this is probably not going to stop here. broadly defined whump absolutely falls under the category of what they're sure to go after at some point. what's worse is that this is not a steam issue - why not just move your content to another platform? sure, you miss out on all the exposure, but at least you can still make some money, right? ok, but when someone wants to pay for your game/art/comic/story, what do they use? one of several payment processors, which are now acting as the moral authority.
wow! wouldn't you know it! the exact thing i thought is going to happen just happened: the biggest indie game platform that offered a way to support creators, itch.io, has just unlised every nsfw entry from their store, and even removed a couple.
some of the games that got pulled down are not even porn games, just ones that deal with "adult themes" and "sensitive topics".
W for the alphabet owo

Hi! How r u? How’s ur game making progress?
hi anon!! i'm alright, been better for sure, but i'm still alive! the game is in a very similar state - it's alive, but not really thriving. it exists, but barely, and has not been making a lot of progress. : (
i haven't been active recently on this blog for a couple of reasons, most of which boil down to what the cool youth of today would call "weaksauce mental" and not having a lot of free time. i've graduated about a year ago (:D) and have been working a full-time job since (D:) which has been surprisingly exhausting, not to mention time consuming. how do people have the energy to do things! working has made me appreciate the huge amounts of effort you all put into making creative things, and helped me realize that i'm a bit fucked up. it'll probably be a while until i pick development up again at a pace that enables posting semi-regular updates. sorry! : (
Yeah well ^^;; Prince Ren also has rivals. No one is surprised 😆
masochistic whumpee who gets in trouble on purpose to get punished + a whumper that's confused why their obedient whumpee keeps acting out <3
