It wasn't often that he got to be the knowledgeable one about the human world, but one of the perks to his traveling was finding weird, obscure places to eat, filled with foods Connie had never tried. it was actually pretty easy to find new foods for her - her mother being so strict with her diet hadn't left her a lot of opportunity for new meals.

He loved taking her to somewhere small, a little shack on the outskirts of downtown, and watching her face fill with curiosity. He loved ordering for them both, filling the table with food he promised he wouldn't let go to waste, and insisting that she try a little bit of everything.

"When we're old enough," he tells her as they make their way through a massive tray of sashimi. "I'll find bars for us too. We can have crazy dinners and crazy drinks. Whatever you want."

She giggled, ducking her head. "You know, I'll be happy with anything. I just like spending time with you."

"I know," he says, beaming. "But... just because I'm not going gem stuff anymore doesn't mean I don't want to go on adventures with you."

She looks a little shy and suggests, "Well, what if we planned on traveling together?"

He blinks. "Like... what I'm doing?"

"Sort of." She hesitates. "But I meant more all of Earth. Maybe the stars? But I get it if you don't want to anymore."

"With you?" he says, beaming. "Anywhere."

I love how on seven separate occasions Zuko’s version of a “plan” was ‘break into an impenetrable/secret location and we’ll go from there’

These occasions were: 

The Winter Solstice (breaking into the Fire Sages temple, on Fire Nation soil, while being banished. Iroh was correct in saying his dumbass levels peaked here, but Zuko was building a ladder and was ready to go even higher.) 

The Blue Spirit (breaking into Zhao’s fortress and being very lucky that Aang hauled his ass out of danger when he got knocked out) 

The Siege of the North (in which it is a very good idea to almost drown in the process of trying to break into the heavily guarded NWT. “I would have figured something out.” Sure Zuko, sure.) 

Lake Laogai (Props to him for finding Appa in less than a day when the gaang had been searching for months, but what was your plan buddy? ”And then what?!” is a good fucking question, Iroh. It is arguable that his dumbass levels did in fact peak here.)

The Firebending Masters (”If we break into an ancient Sun Warrior temple we’ll probably learn some firebending” “Zuko I don’t think that’s how it works” “this is the best I can come up with”) 

The Boiling Rock (Technically breaking into the most heavily guarded prison was Sokka’s idea, but being the most wanted traitor in the Fire Nation should have probably given Zuko enough motivation to not go along with the loosest idea of a ‘plan’ ever to grace this show. But what was he supposed to do? Not use breaking and entering to solve a problem?) 

The Southern Raiders (In which the first part of every revenge quest involves breaking into a Fire navy communications tower and just kind of hoping you’re able to find the right guy. This is where Katara comes in with some bloodbending action to make the plan actually work and Zuko learns that Katara did in fact have the ability to murder him this whole time.)

At thirteen, Zuko spoke up to challenge the plans of the highest-ranked, most respected generals in command of armies of the nation that had spent a century seeking domination over the entire world. He was then forced to take on the impossible task of finding a legend who had vanished a hundred years before and, if it existed, should only be found in the parts of the world the remaining furious enemies of the Fire Nation had control over and would guard or hide to the highest degree possible. 

What I’m saying is that Zuko’s understanding of the word ‘impossible’ was skewed if he had to believe his father offered him a real way to come home and not a cruel mockery. Now Zuko sees what others call impossible and immediately thinks “Yes, that’s what I need to throw myself at to get what I want.”

You are allowed to dislike Steven Universe and She-ra, He owl house, etc. Hell, you're even allowed to dislike Rebecca Sugar, Dana Terrace and Noelle Stevenson.

But there's one thing you're not allowed to take away. That there was a little girl, who was constantly told she'll have to marry a man one day, and she always hated the thought of marriage until she watched Ruby and Sapphire, two girls get married o tv, when she suddenly realized she has a future. And there was a girl who went home crying because her classmates told her only boys can kiss girls when she tried to kiss her female crush, and then saw Catra and Adora kiss onscreen and suddenly felt like her feelings might not be wrong after all. And the little boy who never knew why he didn't want to date girls until he saw Benson tell Kipo he's gay, and altough this little boy wouldn't learn what that means for years, he knew there's this word Benson used and he knew it meant he didn't want to be with Kipo because she's a girl and he wanted to be with Troy because he's a boy and he loved him. And there must have been a girl who never wanted a boyfriend but didn't know girls can have girlfriends until she saw Amity and Luz call each other girlfriends. And don't get me started on the enby kids who didn't exactly understand why Raine Whispers was called they and them but realized they'd love to be called that.

There were so many of these kids. And maybe their parents turned off the tv and yelled at them saying they're being brainwashed by modern cartoons. But it was too late. These kids already saw themselves, and already saw it's not wrong to be themselves.

You can dislike these cartoons but you CANNOT deny that what they did to these kids changed their lives for the better.

Oh and one more thing. These shows aren't being made by cishet creators. There could have been a cishet creator who wanted to create a gay character in a cartoon but it didn't happen because they were told no they just took it. But these creators did not take no for an answer, and the reason they didn't, is because they were those kids, who needed to see these cartoons but did not. And this is another reminder not to compare these cartoons because they aren't enemies, they're helping each other, giving more opportunities to do even more.

Anyways. I was that kid. Steven Universe changed my life and helped me accept who I am.

Embrace queer representation in cartoons-even the ones you don't like- for these kids.

actually that fits w my theory that fanfiction is closer to literary analysis than it is to creative writing. like i feel like so much of fanfiction is more about “this is my interpretation of the text, and i’m teasing out the complexities of this interpretation by writing it in the format of a creative writing piece” than it is about an original piece of fiction

This actually fits with what I’ve understood of actors who read fan fiction about their characters. Nearly always it’s someone who wants more analysis of the character than they’re getting from the scripts, so they look to what fans are producing and find those deep dives there.

Audacity to replace Audition (I also received a free version of Pro Tools with my Scarlett Solo audio interface)

If Adobe is going to be greedy shitheads, then fuck ‘em. Don’t use their stuff. Freeware can be just as good, if not better, than Adobe CC.

Voloco: iOS - android (mostly for sound recording, effects and key correction on phones and can work with external microphones from my experience, and you can use an android emulator if you want to install it on PC)

Bandlab (for sound editing, composing and recording and is the app I use the most for my musical projects)

Bonus: I use Canva for my music video lyric project stuffs
