People put so much into seeing Stonewall as this symbol. And at the time we just thought, ‘Oh, I guess it’s just that time of the month when cops raid the bar, so they can make their numbers for arresting fags for the month of June.’ But people get so concerned about the details. September 11, 1973 - Salvador Allende's last broadcast to the Chilean people. General Augusto Pinochet, backed by the CIA launched a coup against Chile’s democratically-elected socialist President Allende after a protracted US campaign to sabotage and impoverish the Chilean people.

President Nixon ordered the CIA to “make the economy scream” in Chile to “prevent Allende from coming to power or to unseat him.” Allende refused to surrender to Pinochet’s troops and died defending the Presidential Palace.

Pinochet’s fascist dictatorship would see the deaths, imprisonment, or disappearance of over 40,000 people. The CIA-backed coup in Chile was part of establishing Operation Condor, a plan to impose US-friendly fascist regimes on Latin America to crush socialist, communist and workers’ movements. Operation Condor is estimated to be responsible for 60,000-80,000 deaths in Latin America. [video]
