i am actually getting so viciously humiliated and dogged by samurai jack amulet of time on the gameboy advance i shoulnt even be allowed to show my face in public
hi hi hello! I was gonna ask on anon because sending asks is scary™️but decided to send it anyway even if anon isn't on. I was gonna ask about the spring tree Aku tree and your thoughts behind it. I sometimes think about that art randomly because it's so pretty
hiiiiii congrats on sending an ask off anon genuinely!! ☺️ i deliberately don't turn on anon so that people can be notified when their asks have been answered rather than having to wait and check the blog 💞
i'm so delighted that you think about flowering aku randomly, he seems to have made an impression on here despite not wanting to be looked at 🙂↕️✨ for anybody just reading, the art being referred to is this
when i make fanworks about aku i am always thinking about his two selves. there's his public (canon) self, master of masters, a gleefully dominant force of destruction, delighted to be evillest of evils, proud to be a horror and a stain. then there's his private (fanon) self, who was told to die the moment he came into being, who was shown that he could never be anything but a vile corruption to be eradicated. he never wants to be good, but perhaps he feels constrained by all those titles, by the weight of his horned crown. perhaps he wishes he could grow.
i love this idea of aku as a force of nature, destruction and creation, winter and spring. but he hasn't quite got the understanding of this duality in himself yet, so he feels intense shame about about it. the deliverer of darkness does not form a single plum blossom on his train and feel overwhelming softness and joy. he does not bloom like the gardens of the imperial palace in spring. the great aku is never gentle, or delicate, or shy. it does compliment a transfem interpretation of him but that's not essential to imagine that he might experiment with flowers in private, unable even to look at himself in his evil mirror. the art confirms what he's not ready to accept - the great aku is beautiful in all seasons 🌸
Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” that was written in 1950 is set on the day of August 4th, 2026 (tomorrow)!! Now’s your chance to read it around the time it’s based in!
Audio: A recording of Leonard Nimoy reading it on Internet Archive.
Text: A PDF version.
Graphic Novel: On Internet Archive.
Just had the very surreal experience of saying "oh shit it's almost midnight but I can still listen to the audio version and most of it will still be on the right day."
Then at the very end as I hear "Today is August 5th, 2026" I glance down at the clock and it has literally just ticked over to midnight. Today is August 5th, 2026. Literally got chills down my spine. 10/10
