While I love the positive spin everyone is taking with this, I really think this is a follow up to him calling out priests who are using ChatGPT to write their homilies.

For non-Catholics, this is the part of the mass where the priest relays in his words what the gospel means today. It can be hit or miss. In my experience most of the homilies have been miss in my opinion because I just can't connect. It's a major reason I went to a non denominational church. The sermons are relatable.

So for the Pope to hear that men who went to school to be priests are essentially cheating must break his heart.

Though he could also be calling writers to use their God given Talents. He's asking for writers to make space for the Grace of God to grow through the written word. I mean our very freedom (at least in America) was won with a well written document, well spoken speeches, and yes well fought battles. And other great strides were made with well written words and also well spoken truths.

Point is: If you can write, why not use it to make a positive change? Why not write to your representative a well articulated argument why passing any form of so-called Internet protection act is just a surrender of freedom of speech. If you are a good speaker, why not do the above but calling. If you have a Talent (in the context of the Bible a gift, talent, or skill) use it to make the changes you wish to see.

I too am 31. I've been doing this even before I knew Self shipping was a thing. As a kid it was more the familial fictional others being an only child and all. It wasn't until late high school that they shifted to Romantic F/Os. It's never too early or late.

The Infinite Library of AO3: Why You Should Read Borges Like a Fanfic Writer.

If you’re writing fanfic, you’ve gotta study Jorge Luis Borges. Seriously. The guy basically invented the fanfic mindset decades ago. He was obsessed with the idea that no story is truly "original"—everything is just a remix of what came before. Instead of stressing about coming up with something 100% brand new, lean into the fact that you’re playing in a giant, shared sandbox. Your fic is just another volume in the infinite library of human stories, so have fun twisting tropes and mashing up ideas.

Borges is also the king of doing a lot with a little. His stories are often super short but hit you with these massive, brain-melting concepts. You don’t need to write a 300k-word epic to make an impact. Take one tiny, weird detail from your favorite show or book; like that one throwaway line or a random background character, and blow it up into a "what-if" scenario. It’s way more rewarding to explore a niche, specific idea than it is to just rehash the main plot.

Also, don’t be afraid to get weird with the format. Borges loved writing "reviews" of books that didn't exist or fake biographies of people who never lived. As a fanfic writer, you can totally do this! Write your fic as a series of intercepted owl-posts, a collection of cursed textbook footnotes, or even a fake historical archive. Breaking out of the standard "chapter 1, chapter 2" structure makes your writing feel more like an artifact from the world you’re writing about, which is honestly the coolest vibe ever.

For a Harry Potter example: imagine a fic written entirely as a set of inventory logs from a bored, stressed-out clerk in the Department of Mysteries. Instead of a standard "Harry goes to Hogwarts" plot, you’re just reading through descriptions of weird, cataloged items, like "Object 402: A tea set that only pours liquid memories" or "Object 99: A prototype spell that makes time run backward for butterflies." By treating the magic like a mysterious, dusty science, you turn a simple fanfic into a cool, eerie meditation on the secrets of the Wizarding World.

How do you usually handle world-building in your own fics: Do you stick to what's canon, or do you love breaking the rules?

It's funny you ask. In the Mortal Kombat fandom a friend of mine and I actually fleshed out The Black Dragon gang. We created an initiation ritual for the gang, wrote that they don't initiate someone under 18 years old, and that non members under their protection are called fangs. They are a dark reflection of the Assassins from Assassins Creed because they do have a burauoe. Pavilion Night Club actually inspired by Verdant Night Club in the CW Arrow.

So I have a Mortal Kombat x Assassin's Creed plot bunny attack me. So let me introduce to you, the Prince Desmond AU.

So while early in the pregnancy and technically married (I don't honestly know if it was official given the fact of staying off the records), Kayana Al-Naar is sent to the Mortal Kombat Tournament on Shang Tsung's island (this is in the events of Mortal Kombat 2/ the second tournament part of Mortal Kombat 2011) and isn't doing so well physically speaking. Shao Kahn is present and approaches her almost sensing her condition. When he does reach her she collapses. Shao Kahn recalls his champions and forfeits the tournament. Raiden concerned follows the Kahn to Outworld and is actually shocked that he does have a heart and can be kind. Shao Kahn yells at Raiden for his lack of concern for a pregnant woman and Raiden explains "she's not my champion."

When Kayana wakes up she is surprised. Shang Tsung is tending to her and explains everything. Due to him being forthcoming Kayana explains the truth of her situation. An arranged forced marriage to unite two bloodlines of the Assassin Brotherhood. Shao Kahn is pissed. Over time and with care research they learn Kayana, legally speaking, isn't married. So, with the fact that he's been courting her Kayana agrees to officially marry the Kahn.

The benefits are staggering. For one thing Shao Kahn no longer has to attempt to invade Earthrealm through Mortal Kombat, they are a stable ally through Kayana. Another is that Outworld gets a queen and an heir.

That is then where Kayana asks Shang Tsung for assistance. She has the Prophet's Codex, Kano's sticky fingers lifted it before Daniel Cross could ever get it, and revealed her son's fate.

The sorcerer agrees, knowing he can override enough of the child's DNA in the womb to ensure his claim to the throne cannot be challenged. However troubled by the prochey heads with Ko'tal to Earthrealm and to the Grand Temple. They cannot enter but Minverna and Juno do show themselves. They hear the same thing Desmond will eventually hear. But Minverna gives Shang Tsung a hint as to save Desmond from his fate.

Desmond is born and grows up raised as the beloved prince of Outworld. Shao Kahn is tough on him, but he wants Desmond not just to survive but thrive. To live.

Desmond's lessons are from each of Shao Kahn's inner circle. Ko'tal trains him with blades and as a soldier, Ermac fortifies his mind (making Juno's control of him near impossible in Brotherhood), Erron Black trains him with firearms, Syzoth (Aka Reptile) trains in hand to hand combat, Shang Tsung teaches him magic which Desmond can not do but he can recognize it, Sindel along with Kayana teaches him manners and how to play the deadly court game, and Shao Kahn teaches him how to run the realm. Kayana eventually teaches Desmond the assassin skills at about age five because he has a foundation with the others. He also learns about the brotherhood from his mother.

With help from Outworld scholars, Desmond learns a lot about the history of Outworld, Earthrealm and the Assassin Templar shadow war. At six meets Cassie Cage for the first time, she is also six at the time and they hit it off. Shao Kahn, Kayana, Sonya, and Johnny agree to not push the children but also to not discourage this.

When he turns sixteen however something goes wrong. General Raiko had been unhappy for years and finally had the balls to commit a coup. He used Outworld's Kamidogu Dagger to control Ko'tal and have him "kill" Desmond. Desmond knocks sense into him and they quickly pull a Joseph (well more like his brothers) and dip Desmond's outer coat in blood drawn from a cut Ko'tal made across Desmond's chest, along with giving him his scar.

Desmond flees to Earthrealm, and canon for him procceds as normal.

This is where I am stopping. I will share more if there is interest. Let's say if I get five comments from people asking questions then I will do another post with more.

Desmond feels that way for Lucy Stillman. The girl went on her first and only solo mission and was isolated from the assassins for seven years. Vedic preyed upon that and flipped her. Like he knew she was a traitor, and killed her because he was forced to do so.

If given the opportunity he might have been remorseful about killing Daniel Cross as well. The dude was literally The Winter Soldier.

But he is an assassin, they kill Templars, those who associate with them, and traitors. It's why I like the second Cristina Memory in Brotherhood, Cristina teaches Ezio to differentiate between the common guards (people just trying to earn a living) and Templars (the ones actually responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers.)

My problem is Desmond shipped with his ancestors. Come on. However I do have two stories I have read where the author established very well and early that either Desmond or the ancestor in question is very different.

We were born for this: Desmond x Ezio- Desmond is different from canon because he never ran away from the farm and was in the Animus sooner because the assassins got their hands on it first. He was molded into the perfect weapon by William Miles.

Eagle of Alumant: Desmond x Altaïr- this starts as Desmond from canon however he shifts into being different as he trains in Alumant and is adopted as the future mentor. Altaïr seems to be different too. This is also explained by the fact that Abestrgo cuts corners and Altaïr's memories were incomplete.

Jamie Ella Tundra has gone through a lot of revamps over the years as I have self-shipped in multiple fandoms. Her current lore which is canon from here on out is:

She is the Blood of Kings- in Assassin's Creed Desmond Miles is referred to as the Heir to Bloodlines and Layla is the Heir to Memories. So Blood of Kings is a similar epaith for Jamie referring to her Royal ancestors. Braid MacTair, Roderick MacCloud, Philip the Second, Odysseus, and Harold the Fair hair.

She has had breast cancer and has Thalassemia

She's five foot nothing and when she meets Desmond for the first time she is 95lbs.

Jamie is quite skilled at many traditional traits of a ruler. She also is skilled in a couple soft arts. She also speaks six languages with one of them having two dialects she speaks.

Lastly Jamie can be a bit shy at times.
