Iāll be honest. I thought I would be a lot more mature as adult. I still stay up too late reading fantiction, my bedrooms a mess, and I am eating my favorite candy as I write this.
That being said: I have a 401k and a doctors appointment so I can opt in to my health insurance saving plan.

A suggestion for non-Indigenous neopagans: The Norse fylgja (plural fylgjur) is a concept that suits the way white people tend to talk about spirit animals, but without all the yoinking and stomping on closed cultures.
The fylgja is a spirit that follows and protects an individual from the time of their birth and can take the form of an animal. In those cases, the form it assumes is typically representational of a personās own spirit, but it can also appear as a human as well, though that can have slightly different implications about the nature of the thing. Keep in mind, though, that seeing oneās own fylgja is said to be an omen that a personās death is near.
Fun fact for all you out there, fylgja means āto accompanyā and is largely where the idea of a witchās familar stems from. Familiar is a perfect alternative if you canāt pronounce this

Its been quite some time since I posted here. I accidentally lost access to this blog.Ā I also had periods of time where I didnāt want to post. Over a year actually. Yet I still find that I have followers. Hello lovely people.
I went through my blog the other day. Its a time capsule of who I was. For a long time this place was my outlet. It was my safe space. Whether it was roommates, parents, or school, this was where I posted my concerns. In my early twenties, this is where I hid. Thank you.
I also found community. Book lovers. The Carrie Diaries. Musicals. Harry Potter. I was less alone on this website. I value that.
I donāt know all of you in real life. I know a tiny handful in person. I only talk to two of you on semi-regular basis. No matter who you are or what you are doing I hope you are receiving positive life lessons and blessings.
I have always said I didnāt want to know the end of my story. I still feel that way. There have been so many unexpected blessings. There are so many great stories I wouldnāt have written for myself. Thankfully time is the author, not me.
I want my followers, especially those who followed me in college, to know that I am doing better. I have worked hard on my mental health and my relationships with others. Its a slow progress but it something I continue to improve with time. I have made difficult but good decisions. Iām happy.
So thank you. Thank you followers. Thank you friends. Thank you for being there.

Weirdly enough, that legend is now comforting to me.
I think itās worth noting that many like me, who are diagnosed with ASD now, would probably have been seen as just a bit odd in centuries past. Iām only a little bit autistic; I can pass for neurotypical for short periods if I work really hard at it. I have a lack of talent in social situations, and Iām prone to sensory overload or you might notice me stimming.
But hereās the thing: life is louder, brighter and more intense and confusing than it has ever been. I live on the edge of London and I rarely go into the centre of town because itās too overwhelming. If I went back in time and lived on a farm somewhere, would anyone even notice there was anything odd about me? No police sirens, no crowded streets that go on for miles and miles, no flickery electric lights. Working on a farm has a clear routine. Iād be a badass at spinning cloth or churning butter because I find endless repetition soothing rather than boring.
Iām not trying to romanticise the past because I know it was hard, dirty work with a constant risk of premature death. I donāt actually want to be a 16th century farmer! What Iām saying is that disability exists in the context of the environment. Our environment isnāt making people autistic in the sense of some chemical causing brain damage. But we have created a modern environment which is hostile to autistic people in many ways, which effectively makes us more disabled. When you make people more disabled, you start to see more people struggling, failing at school because theyāre overwhelmed, freaking out at the sound of electric hand dryers and so on. And suddenly it looks like thereās millions more autistic people than existed before.

That last paragraph is absolutely important.
Thereās also some disabilities that effectively donāt exist in a modern environment. Shitty eyesight, for example, is 99% of the time effectively and easily treated with glasses, and is not a disability at all (assuming you can afford the glasses, of course). I donāt have to go to my schoolās disability services and request accommodations because I need glasses, and I donāt have to alter my daily life because I wear glasses, because todayās modern environment is perfectly navigable to a person with glasses. If I lived 500 years ago and had the same shitty eyesight, it actually would cause me problems. If only we build the world to accommodate other disabilities the way we accommodate glasses.

Thatās Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. Thatās because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

This is really important and let me tell you why.
My mom has an iPhone 6 Plus and hasnāt even had it for a year when one day it suddenly died and would not charge. So she took it to an authorized Apple repair place and they charged her $50 for a diagnostic only to tell her that she would have to buy a brand new phone.
So she decided to go to the AT&T store to talk to our usual guy that upgrades our phones and handles any problems for us. She tells him whatās wrong and he takes her phone to the back only to come out two minutes later, puts her phone on charge and it comes back to life.Ā
She asks him what was wrong with it that he managed to somehow fix when the people at theĀ āauthorized apple repair placeā couldnāt. And you know what he told her?
āThere was just a bit of fuzz in the charging port.ā
I FUCKING KNEW IT. Listen, I have a MacBook from college. The charger has died twice, and I had to get a new one. This happened for two years in a row around the same time each year. Iām fucking convinced that their hardware is rigged to āexpireā in order to force people to keep buying their shit.
Wait, people are just now learning that Apple has some of the shadiest business practices?
You know this isnāt really just apple, companyās do this all the time, everything is rigged to expire and all they want is your money.

All companies want you to buy their new products. None have gone to the lengths that Apple Inc. has gone to make end user repairs as impossible as is legally viable. I have been repairing electronics and computer systems privately, commercially and active duty in the US military for about 30 years.Ā
Apple puts extra effort into special hardware requiring proprietary tools that are only legally produced by their licensed manufacturer and can only be purchased through licensed repair shops if at all.Ā
Companies like iFixit can only exist as profit making companies because they are able to make workaround tools and kits that are still profitable but less of a blatant ripoff than Apple.Ā
Apple has been doing this forever. The way Apple treats consumers is abysmal, and people still eat their products up.
This is called āplanned obsolescenceā - many companies do it, but Apple has made it into an art. Basically, companies - tech companies in particular - have realized that if their products are manufactured too well, they wonāt be able to sell you a new one in three years. So, in order to keep consumers coming back for more, they design your gadgets to āexpireā in all manner of ways; Apple is infamous for pushing software updates that render older model phones and computers useless right before releasing a new product so that consumers will be forced to purchase the newest version of a gadget they already have.
The best way to fight back against this kind of wasteful, predatory, capitalistic schlock is to learn more about how your gadgets work so that you can repair them instead of replacing them. This man is doing the Lordās work.
