The room hangs in the precious moment between consciousness and sleep. In this moment, everything is softened; the edges of the world are blurred and out of focus, and your body is weightless and comfortable. The blackout curtains hide the true time of day, and here, suspended in the cradle of dreamy oblivion, you can almost pretend that the night is still young, that you can continue to doze for a few hours moreā¦Ā

Hollyās breath is cold against the shell of your ear, a puff of winter wind from his nasal cavities as he nuzzles lazily into the side of your head. His voice does not shatter the silence ā that was too jagged a word to describe the lowness of his timbre, the huskiness of sleep that hangs off his words. He simplyā¦ coexists with the quiet, his voice neither properly rousing you nor so soft that you missed it entirely.Ā
You give a murmur, not quite an affirmation, and twist around to curl closer against his ribs. Youāre separated by a barrier of clothing, (having already learned your lesson after waking up with a cold more than once,) but heās still chilled under his shirt, cool against your face when you press your cheek to his sternum. Your legs curl up, slotting between his own, and the femur he slings over your hip is a cozy weight that keeps you comfortably cold. (You never need to crack a window in the summer againā¦ goodbye, hot nights with frozen waterbottles!)Ā

This close, you can feel the rumble of the words in his throat, the thrum of his voice in his chest. Heās speaking so softly, practically whispering, but it still comes out as a sleep-rough growl into the top of your head, another cold huff fanning over your face. (You tilt up to meet him, letting him nuzzle at your forehead, and you smile sleepily at the sluggish sound of a wagging tail under the covers.)Ā
After a moment, you affirm that yes, you would like him to try again later, and his laugh is more of a pleased chuff than anything else. He throws an arm over your shoulders, holds you snug to his ribs, and his jaw settles atop your head again with a pleased sigh.Ā
Within moments, the world returns to blurred edges and soft silence. Hollyās shirt smells like peppermint hot chocolate and spruce, warm and cozy, and you drift back to sleep, dreaming of wrapping paper and skeletons in sweaters.

JINGLEFELL!Sans/Reader Headcanons
holly is cold ā cuddles with him, unless youāre incredibly warm already, are usually buffered by a blanket so you arenāt pressed into ice-cold bone. (this is tragic, because he loves physical touch, meaning he is constantly wanting to be physical with you, but he is hindered by his own frostbite! tragicā¦ but also kind of funny!)
heās a pretty sleepy guy, so youāll need to forgive him for dozing during movie dates or nodding off watching shows together. his favorite dates are ones that get him moving around so that he can stay awake!! he loves going to aquariums to look at seals, and staying up late with you to try to photograph owls, and decorating gingerbread monsters to look like slashers from scary movies!
(heās a firm believer that, despite the holiday connotations, gingerbread cookies are an acceptable snack all seasons of the year, no he does not accept arguments at this time.)Ā
however, with that mention of the holidaysā¦ i really, really hope you like winter, because itās his favorite. one may think that his underground being gyftmas obsessed would turn him away from the cold season, but itās quite the opposite ā he has a fierce love for snow and lights and peppermint sweets, and his room has a permanent tree that changes decor with the seasons. (youāve never caught him changing the ornaments, but every first dawn of the new season, itās entirely redecoratedā¦)Ā
holly is easily swayed by kindness in general. he tries really hard to keep up his big, scary guard dog routine, but you probably won him over by justā¦ being nice. maybe you remembered something he said he liked and got him a small, silly gift that heās kept all this time. maybe you complimented one of his shitty sweaters and laughed at the dorky pun on the front, and he thought about it for way longer than he should haveā¦ no matter the case, he canāt just be mean to people who are nice to him :o( heās a ābad guy,ā not a bad guy.Ā
that being said, holly is gruff. please do not take it personal if his voice comes out growlier than he intends, or if he says something a bit too bluntly. he is a little clumsy with his words, youāll learn, and though he never really means any harm, sometimes he forgets the way people may read the words instead of the intent. (i promise, if he didnāt like you or he was actually growling at you, you would know!)Ā
every winter, he gets excited over the first snowfall of the season. (itās something he misses about his underground ā all the constant snow, muffling the world around himā¦) please get excited with him!! heāll wake you up in the middle of the night just to coax you into watching the first flakes begin to settle on the grassā¦

fatigue is no joke. there are days, despite how hard you will yourself, that just getting out of bed takes it out of you. there are days you run out of steam before lunch and days that you have to raincheck on dates because you justā¦ donāt have it in you. you hate to think that youāre letting him down ā he always tries to make time for your date nights and you loathe disappointing him, butā¦ there really is no ignoring a bad fatigue day :o(Ā
but! cross is always so understanding!!Ā
instead of just canceling datesā¦ he comes to you! he brings takeout, usually, (because this man cannot cook to save his life,) stumbling into your home with his head ducked under your doorframe and his arms heavy with dinner-smelling bags. (he usually just assumes you havenāt eaten all day, which isā¦ usually true, yeah, and so he makes sure that lack of food isnāt contributing to your exhaustion.)
he usually slips away from his work for little bursts at a time, which gives you a few days with him! he does his best to make sure youāre set for the rest of the week, if he canāt stay ā he runs a few loads of laundry for you, makes sure you have some clean dishes, and reminds you to text your friends to let them know youāre okay.Ā
he really, really doesnāt mind just staying in with you! heās alwaysā¦ doing something. heās always got a mission, or an errand, or a deadline ā just being with you is enough for him, and he isnāt gonna complain about getting to take a break to just spend time with you. heād spend hours just playing games and talking to youā¦
he always seems to know when youāre pushing yourself too hard for his sake going out with him. heās trying not to be obvious, but you can always tell when heās worried about you; he gives you the least concealed distressed-service-dog eyes, says things like āis there any chance youād let me stay the night?ā while he tries to herd you back home. (never pushing, no ā if you want to exert yourself, you need only reassure him that you want to keep enjoying yourself! but if you are overdoing it, it gives you an exit and something to look forward to.)
heās so impressed by your will to keep going. i think itās something that sort of highlighted you in his mind; the fact that, despite your fatigue, you push onward. even before heād met you, youād been persisting; making friends, having fun, working hard even when it sucked, living your life as full as you couldā¦ he admires that, the fact that despite the difficulty, youāve always been fighting forward.Ā
he just wants to be there for you, to give you another reason to keep trying as hard as you do. youāre one of his reasons, after all <3Ā

russet doesnāt really know how to handle you getting overwhelmed and breaking down at first :āo) it isnāt with malice, but he stumbles through trying to calm you down ā he isnāt annoyed or exasperated, (though he may sound gruffer or more agitated,) it is because he really does not know what to do and he feels so helpless seeing you suffer. (if he canāt just kill/hurt whatever is upsetting you, he forgets there are other ways of helping you feel better!)
but, you find out, he is really good at following directions!
if youāre someone who likes to talk through your tears, heās more than happy to listen and agree with you on everything/shittalk anyone whoās upset you. a stressful day at work, where a coworker/your boss wouldnāt leave you alone? oh, yeah, they fuckinā suck, he can wait outside their car tomorrow night if you want!Ā
(no, no, he wonāt hurt them ā just a little intimidation, is all! ā¦ you have to make him promise not to go get picked up by saber (his papyrus) for assaulting someone.)Ā
if itās just overwhelm without a person-based cause, he listens and helps you remove problems. oh, the overhead light is just too much combined with everything else? okay, heās got that handled with his moody, dim lamps. you feel absolutely awful and grimy and bad after a tough day? okay, why donāt you go take a shower and heāll find the softest shirt and loose, comfy shorts for you to wear!Ā
heāll fluster and huff and look away if you try to thank him for these things, but thank him anyway! if he really didnāt enjoy your sweet words, he would tell you ā but he always wags his tail a little bit in small, restrained sways, so clearly he is a fan, even if his face is flushed. (āoh, cāmon, i just turned off the lights, you donāt gotta be all soft on me,ā yeah, but he did it for you, which means heās getting sniffly kisses and watery thank-youās.)
if you like contact/pressure, heās more than happy to squish you under his bones!! he is big and broad, solid ribs and soft ecto if youād like a layer of padding ā but even without, his turtleneck is thick and soft, so he isnāt at all uncomfy to cuddle withā¦ heāll just wrap you up and lay on top of you, hiding you from all the way too much happening in the worldā¦ (his shirt is good at soaking up tears, youāve learned.)Ā
no matter what, russet always struggles with his words ā he has a throat made for growling, not for comforting coos, ā but he helps as best he can with his actionsā¦ heās honestly just delighted that you trust him enough to be around him on bad days :āo) he never gives you shit because he is just so happy that he is someone you see as safe/comforting enough to seek out when things feel roughā¦
HORRORTALE!Sans/Overwhelmed!Reader
bear understands overwhelm better thanā¦ probably almost any other skeleton. he gets it; the people are too much, the lights are too much, the noise is too much, the sights are too much āĀ
even before his head injury, he was a little more sensitive to the world than most. now, with his gaping skull-wound and big, blown eye, heās had to learn firsthand how to navigate things like overwhelmed breakdowns and feeling like itās all too much. (hell, heās almost lost HoPe a few times from the migraines that used to wrack through him, caused by nothing more than the light glinting off the snow in snowdin. i promise, bear gets it.)
with all this in mind, he never gives you a hard time or thinks any less of you for having moments where you need to clear your head through tears. he doesnāt think a single one of your problems are ātoo smallā Ā to warrant such a reaction ā you could be crying because you burnt your toast, and heād be there to sweep it off your plate (and onto his) before putting in some new bread for you and holding you until the toaster pops again.Ā
itād be pretty hard to become overwhelmed because of something happening in his home, which means that itās the first place you usually go when youāre needing some everything relief. sure, birch is a little loud sometimes, but he respects the law of keeping the house at a reasonable volume, first for bearās sake, and then for yours! their home is kept dim and mostly quiet, mostly natural shades of brown accented by muted splashes of color, and it is perfect for a sensitive-brain-day.Ā
bear enjoys getting to take care of you; heāll make you snacks, figure out what lights are best for you, help you get comfortable in whatever clothing feels best, and then heāll start working down from there on what you need.Ā
you just want to talk about it? he sits by you, a notepad nearby in case he needs to jot down anything important for later, and lets you hiccup and sniffle your way through explaining what did you in. just too many small inconveniences piling up, perhaps, or someone being clipped and rude. maybe it was a grocery store, all bright overhead LED bulbs and dancing around strangers, or a day at work with coworkers and customers giving you griefā¦ no matter the cause, heāll let you vent it out of your system, even if it takes extra time ācus you keep stopping to blow your nose!
you want cuddles and comfort? he pulls you in close, a pillow shoved into the empty air of his stomach to give you more comfort, and he lets you cry into his shirt for as long as you need to, his phalanges drawing circles on your back as you get out all those bad feelings. he offers encouragement, soft words of āhey, you donāt gotta try to stopā¦ just go ātil you run outta tearsā¦ā and āhowās a nap sound after this?... we can put on your favorite movie in the backgroundā¦ā

aaah, jinglefell, my belovedā¦ i do apologize if this sounds like the rambling of a crazy person, i just go insane over my silly little guys! i feel like i didn't make much sense, but also... i was going for a feeling, and i think i got that pretty well. here's some lore on my silly guy with lots of artwork at the end!!
jinglefell sans ā or holly, as heās been dubbed, ā is an underfell variant just a few steps over to the festive. in order to hold onto hope, even in a world as dark and aggressive as his own, everyone fell into a sort of unending holiday season, if the giving holiday was a little bit bloodspattered. snowdin is lit by twinkling lights and the unending snow, (which gets shoveled off to hotland to melt down and help keep the core chilled!)Ā
holly is characterized as being a bit more laid back than a typical red-type sans. though quick to anger, he often burns himself out before getting very far into fits ā and his brother, ivy, helps to keep him in check. (a long, long time ago, ivy took a blow meant for asgore, and then, in place of hollyās punishment, offered his servitude to the kingdom. holly will spend his life trying to find a way to make it up to him, not that ivy has ever blamed him.) heās gruffly spoken, but largely means no harm by it ā largely. he does sometimes talk just to piss people off. he picks fights fairly frequently ā and itās always ivy that has to come get him out of trouble, (which feeds into his weird guilt-thing, haha, but he canāt help it as his form of self punishmentā¦ what a freaky guy, he should talk to a therapist.)
he carries the cold of wind blown over snow in an empty field, the kind that cuts through your clothes and bites with fangs made of ice straight down to the marrow. despite this constant chill, heās quick to overheating, though he refuses to take his jacket off whenever itās suggested.Ā
oooh what else is there to say about him in a summeryā¦ he really likes seals and other cold-temp animals, he loves wearing gyftmas sweaters with curse words and terrible puns on them, he sharpens candy canes to points and then crunches them up in his teeth, and also he likes five nights at freddyās and his favorite character is springtrap! he has three blasters ā two of them are more tame, named dancer and comet, and one is the trouble-maker who took the shot, and his name is blitzkrieg, or blitzen :o) (holly kind of hates that one, and doesnāt use magic very much after deeming himself too much of a risk. his magic is so tied to his emotion that he no longer trusts himself, and so he hides blitz in particular, meaning it is highly undersocializedā¦)
he has lots of other story but at the end of the day heās just a skeleton ā¦Ā

vanilla isā¦ already a little bit of a messy guy. not disorganized messy - this guy knows where everything is when he needs it, he could find his pen in a trash tornado, - but he does miss your first sticky notes in his pockets because he thinks theyāre just notes he jotted down.Ā
itās when you move to other tactics that he catches on. he usually smells like yummy food and sleep, (or so heās been told,) and so the addition of your scent is noticed the moment he slips his hoodie on one morning after youād run out the door. it takes him a moment to remember that you left, thereās no reason he should be picking up your scent so clearly āĀ Ā
he pauses in his bedroom, eyelights softened from their usual pinpoints, trying to figure out where itās coming from, and then he pulls the front of his hoodie up to his face and has his !!! moment. itās a nice little reminder of you throughout the day, and he takes care not to spill anything on himself while he works at his little stand to prolong needing to wash the scent of you away.Ā
heās grinning every time one of his regular monster customers comes by and asks about it. several dogs point it out ā (āis that a new smell?ā sniffsniff ātwo old smells, making one new smellā¦ smells can be combined?ā sniffsniff āsans has asked his mate to join his pack??ā) ā and heād be a liar if he tried to say it isnāt making his tail wag every time they get hyped on his behalf about it.Ā
he starts taking the sticky notes out of his pockets before letting papyrus run the laundry, unfolding the little hidden squares and reading the notes inside.Ā
heās so bummed that he lost so many before he caught on. (you start putting one in each pocket so he can catch up on all the sweet things he missedā¦ really appreciates the reminders that someone is thinking about him, (that someone would notice if his work swallowed him whole.)Ā
he starts returning the favor ā you find notes all over the place! (stuck to your mirror in the mornings, in your wallet when youāre checking out somewhere, on the back of your phone, on the inside of your sleeve when you push your arm into your jacket.) somehow, he always seems to have one hidden right where youāll find it when you need one on a hard day.
he never tells you how he keeps getting them in these places. you SWEAR there wasnāt one on your phonecase this morning, you have NO CLUE how he got into your car without you noticing to stick one in your sunshield, and how do they keep getting in your back pocket?? he just smiles and tells you to ās t i c k around and learn a few tricksā
