I had an encounter with an elderly gentleman on a walk just earlier. He drove up, debating to take the lane, in a nice black truck. He was hoping that a neighbor was home to share some news with, but the neighbor wasn't. So instead, he shared it with me. A total stranger.

"I became a great-grandfather yesterday," he said.

I told him congratulations and to have a good day. He then drove off, and I began my way back to the house, believing that we both made an impact on each other's morning.

this is my favorite time of year to drive through the country... the corn is starting to tassel, the soybeans are a wide blanket of deep green, the prairie and pollinator plots are in full bloom, the crop dusters are doing lazy loops over the highline wires, the calves are napping in the pastures, and all's right with the world 🌾

I’m actually a huge fan of the hopecore movement. People need to be encouraged to care again, and that caring is a good thing and will eventually lead you to living a good life. Because if you don’t care, you don’t want to improve yourself, and living a good life requires you to want to improve yourself. We need to get people to see that their lives are worth living so that they start asking why.
