hot take? idk. victor’s fascination with the figurine of the pregnant woman not only hints at the oedipal tension tied to his mother and the image of milk, but also anticipates his desire to create life without a woman’s involvement. the figurine becomes a symbol of the natural, maternal power he tries to control and surpass. in attempting to usurp the role of the mother, victor’s ambition reveals a deep misogyny, his belief that intellect can replace the body, and creation can exist without love or nurture.

Big fan of the fact that, in Frankenstein 2025, Victor did not run from his monster because he was "too grotesque" like in the original novel. The film established that Victor is very comfortable with the grotesque. He's not disconcerted by it, which makes sense. He's building a man out of dead men's body parts. Why would he suddenly be shocked at its appearance?

I love that what GDT did instead. Victor was not afraid of the grotesqueness of life, but the responsibility of it.

You made life, and it's no more than a baby. You must now raise it and nurture it and teach it and love it, and THAT was what was too much for Victor.

Just a really awesome change that worked REALLY well.

Edit: it's been over 10 years since I read the original novel so I may be misremembering, cut me some slack. I'm not interested in book vs movie discourse, I just like how the movie further emphasized this theme.

The funniest part of having a hot monster in any Frankenstein adaptation is that basically means that Victor did that on purpose. Plenty of corpse bits out there, but this dweeb went no! He must have good bone structure! A nice arse!

Frankenstein book: any human has capacity for evil when completely abandoned and shunned by the world and the people who brought him into it

Jekyll and Hyde book: repression and only caring about external appearances can cause your worst impulses to indulge themselves in dangerous ways if ignored for too long
