Brand New illustration for The Brand New Day✨
imagine being friends with me and then boom all i ever talk about is peter parker
i’ll never get over how smhoco era fans saw this mj and really did portray her as the like,, brooding cynical artist who speaks in fluent sarcasm, and doesn’t take any shit, and she’s the stereotypical tough-as-nails dark academia art student
then in literally the next movie we got
“you’re pretty too😊” and this very awkward, morbidly curious, soft-hearted teenage girl, and she’s sneaking out of the opera, she’s super smart, and “I think I actually like it better broken”, and she’s picking up a fucking mace!!! to defend her friends!!! from danger!!!
michelle jones you are so dear to me, im so happy with how they ended up writing her. she’s a weirdo and a sweetheart and i love her
We don’t talk enough about MJ’s character development in homecoming. She got introduced as the lonely nerd that always reads (gym scene, she reads and has no partner for the sit-ups)
she used to sit with Peter and Ned because they’re nerds too and probably felt less bad than the others. When asked why she’s sitting with them she says it’s because she doesn’t have any friends.
then during the aca deca trip she spent more time with them, even went to the swimming pool, even if she only sat on the outline and read, she was part of the group activity.
despite not having friends MJ says to Peter when they stand in front of the Washington Monument “My friends are up there”. She could’ve said classmates or teammates and I think if she wanted to she would’ve, so I don’t think she said “friends” because it was the fastest thing to get Spiderman to safe them, showing that now she thinks of the aca deca teammates as her friends.
and of course, in the end, when MJ becomes the new captain of the aca deca team, she says “my friends call me MJ” and when Ned says that he thought she didn’t have any friends she answer with “I didn’t”, meaning that now she has.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that we don’t talk enough about how MJ was a complete character with character traits and who didn’t only stay the same despite being a side character. It’s giving hints that she would be important in te following movies even before she said that she’s called ‘MJ’. The writers did a good job there.
(Or maybe we’ve talked about it enough and I’m just fucking late to the party)
A day in the life of Peter Parker Spider-Man
seems like a lifetime ago...
Thinking of Peter lying in his bed looking at Ned and MJ’s video vs Peter lying on Happy’s couch FaceTiming MJ.
Friendly reminder:
May and Peter blipped separately. When May came back, she came back to an apartment that wasn't hers, with no idea if her nephew was dead or alive or even where he was and if he got snapped too. She didn't know until hours later when he came back with a haunted look in his eyes.

A Rant on Superheroes: Spider-Man
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, there’s this whole thing about Mysterio becoming the next Iron Man, even though Tony left everything to Spider-Man. Because he groomed him. Tony took advantage of a 14 year old Peter Parker because he saw that he had powers and took him illegally to Germany to fight Team Cap in favour of the Sokovia Accords. Mind you, he didn’t tell Peter what he was fighting for. He left him in the dark purposefully.
Repeatedly, people in Far From Home say that the world needs a new Iron Man. But Iron Man doesn’t stand for anything. He doesn’t stand for justice, he doesn’t stand for equality, he doesn’t stand for freedom or heroism. He’s just a rich guy who wanted to save his own skin. But Spider-Man is Marvel’s most popular character for a reason. Even when he was just in a comic, he quickly took over the Fantastic Four in popularity.
Spider-Man symbolises that anyone can be a hero. Anyone can imagine that they’re wearing the suit. And there are so many different versions of Spider-Man. The world doesn’t need another Iron Man. They need a Spider-Man.
Homecoming Peter Parker will always have a special spot in my heart.
He just wants to prove himself, prove that Tony didn't make a mistake in choosing him despite the fact that he never gets any sort of feedback. He has no proper training, has been given a suit that he truly has no right to have(I do not like the relationship between Tony and Peter, I think giving a teenager a multi-million dollar suit, leaving him to basically do it on his own, and then ripping that protection away bc he messed up due to lack of training and communication was the worst thing to do actually, but that's not what this is about), and is skating by on pure instinct and dependency on tech.
But through it all he perseveres, even when his back up against the wall(or under a building). Even when Tony's turned his back on him, he goes after the plane, and does his best to reach out, even if it's not his problem. He's still trying to prove himself despite basically being told to give it up, and even at the end, when Toomes has beaten him to hell and back, he runs through fire to save the man after his wingsuit explodes.
Homecoming may not be my favorite movie of the trilogy(it's my comfort movie but NWH is my #1) but it's tells a good story of the teenage hero that tries to prove himself even though everyone's already written him off. The kid that has no training and isn't just magically good at what he does. He still makes mistakes, big ones at that. He still misses the mark while he's swinging sometimes, and doesn't always catch when things aren't what they seem. His interrogation skills are non-existent, and sometimes his excitement gets to him. But he tries no matter how bad things look, and doesn't give up just because things get hard.
And then! At the end, when he finally gets what he's wanted, and gets the offer to join the avengers, he's able to turn that down because he knows that's not where he's meant to be. Spider-Man is for the little guy, not someone to be kept in a compound outside of New York and only brought in when circumstances are dire.

Sometimes, Even Spider-Man Needs A Break…
I really like drawing battle damaged Spidey, so this was a fun illustration to create! I hope whoever sees this has an amazing day/evening/night! ✨
