pitch: a few months into his relationship with kravitz, taako starts noticing… crows. 

dotting the town square whenever he visits neverwinter for a shopping trip. roosting in the trees just outside of his dorm at the bureau. peeking into the windows of the training dome whenever he and the boys have practice. he has no idea if the crows were always a thing, or if he’s only started noticing them now that he’s dating a goth.

it’s a little weird, but they’re not like… bothering him or anything? so he shrugs it off. they’re supposed to be omens of death, right? taako’s dating death. he figures it’s just a sign that kravitz is going to be early for dinner tomorrow. 

time passes. the crows come and go. sometimes a raven joins them. sometimes taako waves hello, and then he feels kind of dumb because he’s waving at a bird. but sometimes the bird caws back?

once he makes granola with angus and offers the birds the leftovers. the raven stares without blinking. no? not into it? that’s cool, not everybody likes pumpkin seeds. taako starts to walk off. behind him, he hears a flutter, and when he turns the raven is nibbling on a dried cranberry. the raven says “caw.”

a flawless review.

the raven starts leaving him gifts. maybe as payment for the granola? a copper piece. an earring taako could have sworn he lost three weeks ago. taako empties his bread pudding pocket and starts carrying a little birdseed around instead. the raven lets him give her head skritches. she’s a great listener. taako keeps her up to date with all the hot goss about his new beau.

the raven says “caw.”

this continues throughout the summer and well past the story and song. taako leaves the bureau. he and kravitz buy a house. the raven follows them - or, well, the raven follows… taako? she’s never around when kravitz is home. taako is not completely convinced that kravitz isn’t the bird, but whatever, maybe he’s just too embarrassed to tell taako he’s super into birdseed. it’s cool. taako don’t judge.

taako’s sitting out on the porch one day, looking over blueprints for his school, complaining to the raven about building permits, when kravitz arrives home for the day. he’s early. he walks through the front gate. he stops. he stares.

taako says, “take a picture, baby, it’ll last longer.”

kravitz squints and says “…my queen?”

taako says, “huh?” but kravitz is not looking at taako. kravitz is staring at the bird, settled comfortably in taako’s lap and pecking idly at his fingers. “oh, this l’il lady?” taako says. “i named her ebony. it’s short for -”

kravitz looks up with a start. “taako, you can’t just name her,” he says.

taako frowns. “says who? you’re not the only one allowed to have a cool goth familiar! ebony and i are pals. ebony is my bud.”

kravitz rubs his temples and says, “my lady, please.” the raven gives a petulant caw. then she hops off taako’s lap and unfolds into a swirling mass of feather and bone. 

the raven queen says, “YOU REFUSED TO LET ME MEET HIM. I NEEDED TO BE SURE HE WASN’T TAKING ADVANTAGE.”

kravitz says, “it’s been eighteen months.”

the raven queen nods knowingly. “A RATHER LONG COURTSHIP FOR MORTALS,” she says. several beady eyes open at her back to stare at taako.

the very shiny ring ebony gave him in exchange for a handful of blueberries last week suddenly seems a lot more pointed.

found some old notes and one of them just said “kravitz wants to unionize” and this is what i got from that

taz phantom of the opera au aka “taako becomes an opera ghost, gets paid 8000 a month to stop”

i watched phantom of the opera last night so 

taako is working as a stagehand for a little extra cash, magnus works at the fancy theater so he hooks taako up with a gig. taako goes exploring one day and discovers that oh, the theater was built on top of an extremely vibing underground lake wizard lair? some wizard just left his shit here? 

taako: its free real estate

of course taako is going to take over this dope spooky wizard lair! taako is a wizard, this works out perfectly. it comes with a boat? and bunch of hidden entrances and exits? taako is loving this

taako tells lup about this and she says “neat” and then taako shows her the cool underground lake and all the hidden tunnels and stuff and tbh they make a litttttttle too much noise so when taako comes in for work the next day? everyone is talking about the “return of the theater ghost”

taako does some poking around, asks magnus about this, learns about “yeah there was just a creepy ghost who wore a mask who kidnapped people and killed them and it was a whole thing and he also like, blackmailed the owners of the theater and it was a WHOLE thing but hes gone now….probably” 

taako: …….I could make a career out of this. 

taako is now the new opera ghost. taako sends letters demanding to be paid to stop doing a spook. the opera owners comply because actually? the return of the theater ghost is doing great things for publicity. taako is running around being spooky and wearing a mask and also leaving scary notes and rattling things and he’s having a GREAT time. hes getting paid to be weird? taako was being weird for free but this is better! 

enter kravitz. 

kravitz is a singer and he has a really really lovely voice and sometimes taako sits behind the mirror and listens to him in the dressing room and also watches because taako thinks boy is….hot. 

taako could just ask him out as a normal person but taako does not do that. taako starts offering commentary from behind the mirror. good going, taako. taako is now kravitz’s resident ghost voice coach. 

kravitz is confused but rolling with this.

enter a series of escalating shenanigans where kravitz is flirting with the opera ghost and wonders where his life went wrong. meanwhile, lup is yelling at taako to just ask??? hot boy out??? whats wrong with you, why are you just haunting hotboy??? taako is just living like this. he’s in too deep now. 

taako wonders if he can…use theater ghost’s notoriety to get kravitz some singing solos? that would be nice for taako, and also for kravitz. he likes watching hotboy. 

enter a series of escalating shenanigans that is very similar to the plot of phantom in which taako tries to blackmail the theater into giving kravitz parts, and meanwhile, kravitz yells at taako to taako? stop? but also gets parts because he is good. 

taako tries to apologize by showing kravitz the spooky wizard lair. taako tries to act spooky the whole time but gives up halfway through. kravitz was not fooled from the beginning, but is a little relieved to realize oh, its just a dumb boy. oh, its just a dumb boy who….i could love. kravitz suggests not being an opera ghost. taako says but he loves this? he’s getting paid 8000 a month to stop. kravitz says :/ 

eventually this fic culminates in a scene where taako accidentally drops a chandelier (he just meant to rattle it!) and then kravitz goes into the spooky wizard lair to yell at taako and taako apologizes! taako says :< sorry about theater ghost. kravitz forgives him 

taako asks whether hypothetically, kravitz likes normal boys, or if its just ghosts that do it for him, hypothetically. kravitz says he could bring himself to love a normal boy, if he must. Taako says cool no reason. taako takes kravitz back in the spooky ghost gondola 

the theater is quiet for a few days. Kravitz wonders where taako went. 

then on the third day, the curtain has been replaced with black velvet with sparkly purple script that says GOODBYE and ABRACAFUCKYOU! underneath 

after the perfomance that night, kravitz gets accosted by a handsome elf holding flowers. “hi” taako says. “big fan of ur work.” 

kravitz kisses him.

modern day taz aus are unrealistic bc they have barry and lup end up as a couple by themselves during a fated meeting when we all know taako knows barry from when he has to tutor angus so when lup gets out of a messy relationship shes like 'UGHHH IF OATMEAL WAS A MAN ID DATE HIM!!' and taako knows human oatmeal his name is barry bluejeans and hes had the same phone for 6 years bc all he needs it to do is make calls. he has a favourite pocket protector. he can speak latin. he always wears a belt. taako sets them up as a joke to lift lups spirits up so they can laugh at someone else like old times but then shes like taako.. i.. i think he might be the one.. and taako supports her through gritted teeth bc she needs a win but if he has to have oatmeal as his fucking stepbrother hes going to very angrily underseason the finger foods at their wedding

Oooooh, @ruffboijuliaburnsides, an interesting thought. So interesting that I wrote entirely too many words.

It begins with a mistake.

The new world, their chosen world, feels so much like home - for the first time in years, they feel safe. They let their guards down. Barry and Taako go out scouting, and Barry drags a bloodied, barely-alive Taako back into the Starblaster hours later.

Lup is the only one who recognizes the magic. I had to, Barry explains. I thought he was going to die. We can’t… we can’t stay here without Taako.

She agrees: the possibility is unthinkable.

When Lup can’t take it anymore, when she can’t let another person die because of her creation, Taako goes with her. He’s a lich, now; she’s not leading him into danger the way she would’ve been otherwise, she thinks, and she wants her brother with her. Of course I’m going with you, Taako says when she asks. You wouldn’t really leave me behind, would you?

She doesn’t see Cyrus reach out for her. She doesn’t see Taako get in the way. She does see Taako fall, and traps Cyrus in his own vault while her brother dies across the room. When she runs close, trying to wake him because this isn’t how it’s supposed to happen, he isn’t supposed to be a lich for the rest of their lives, what kind of life would that be - her staff opens without her permission, and in a rush of sparks her brother is gone.

Lup doesn’t know what to do. She didn’t think of this possibility, doesn’t know how to get him out, and she stumbles from the cave and home towards help; Barry will help her find answers. She doesn’t make it that far before her mind dissolves into static.

Blupjeans Week 2019 - Day 1: Domestic

Late @blupjeans-week art is coming! They’ll all be pretty sketchy I imagine, I’m catching up on commissions and I have a comic submission to get done too, but these will be little rewards for doing the work! hehe. :)

There’s no significance to the disappearing notebook Lup was holding, nor the disappearing text in Barry’s book- I’m just very lazy (●´ 3 `)♡
