im sorry these are the funniest tags ive ever seen
Purrentification.
dehumanization as horror is great and all but what about humanization as horror. Being forced into a role that was not made for you. Being forced to fulfill expectations that you can never achieve. Being made to exist in a society that so cruelly expects you to act in a way that is against your nature.
ive thaught bout this a lot actually (last unicorn is my favorite movie)
I wonder if we'll ever have any miscommunications when we first meet aliens.
Specifically in the way that; the words that we use to describe 'a person i relate to and think deserves respect " all relate to being human
"Have some humanity "
"Thats inhumane"
"Really humanizes you"
"Dehumanizing"
If we were ever trying to describe to an alien that we respect them, see their personhood, their souls, understand the horrors of what it must feel like to be so far from home and be scared that you dont belong.
Would it just come off as us trying to relate everything back to how much like or unlike US they are?
This has potential for lots of fun plotthreads and mught also be a metaphor for something a little bit.
im fucking crying
me tongue-deep in a sandalwood candle: 🤤
the tjmaxx employee loading a fourth tranquilizer dart into their blowgun: i need backup
“we live in an uncaring universe” yeah dude and I live in an uncaring house. and I shit in an uncaring toilet. but do you touch an uncaring lover? do you comfort an uncaring child? do you guide to sleep each night a cold and uncaring self?
please hurry up in reblogging this I wanna jorts it before someone puts it in one of those heartwarming tiktok slideshows
i was like 'what could jorts it possibly mean' but as with many things clicking the original post immediately clarified the situation
no it does not. What does this mean?
I subscribe to the belief that Rocky was not popular on Erid (except with Adrian, he was very popular with Adrian, Adrian loves their social outcast freak partner) and I think it is very funny to imagine how the rest of Erid reacts when their (apparently last surviving?? They sent over 20 eridians what the fuck happened??) saviour of their species is the guy they all thought would die first and he arrives on a whole new ship (where the fuck did he get that?? He's an engineer, did he build a new fucking ship up there??) and now he doesn't wear clothes anymore and is speaking overly simplified Eridian like a pebble and weirdest of all he has seemingly kidnapped a dying alien and is now demanding all of Erid fix the abominable leaky space blob or Rocky will withhold the cure for the universe
I have noticed Rocky interpretations of him being more uniquely bossy and rude which do make sense this rock is swearing up a storm real quick to this alien during that tapping scene. Bossy and rude is just canon but he is very charming. But I saw an additional idea of Rocky actually having more carvings than a typical Eridian and his (like one of two in the movie) outfits looking more like a typical engineers toolbelt means Grace’s first impression of Eridians is one punk blunt asshole. We saw the human team, half of their budget was alcohol. If you choose the best and brightest of your planet it’s a mixed bag of personalities. Grace’s first impression of Erid and he’s like “Wow they’re taking so much care to be professional and nice, it’s impressive. Being very careful with any misunderstandings. They’re REALLY restraining themselves” and Rocky who made first contact with an alien and then threatened to throw Grace out the airlock if he doesn’t go to bed on time is pretending wow that’s cool they’re just that nice I guess
i headcannon that rocky is not a good specimen example. He has several radical ideas , eating can be beautiful and water based life can exist dammit!!
🎶No understand Word. What is Sploot, Question?…What is funny? Why Grace Laughing, Question?🎶
Rocky do a good sploot! 💛 My cooldown doodle was so cute, I had to animate it! 🥹
One thing that worries me about the use of AI is whether or not it can worsen people's dementia and alzheimer's in the future. When my grandmother was first diagnosed, we got her math activity books. Now, my grandmother never had a formal education, but we did our best to keep her sharp, get her to do math and writing activity books, sudokus, playing board games that required some level of strategizing with her. Her family is prone to alzheimer's and dementia (both her siblings had it and deteriorated very very very quickly, which yeah, scares the shit out of me being her granddaughter) but she was the one whose mind lasted the longest, she only passed away two years ago, at 88, ten whole years after her initial diagnosis and sure, she had forgotten things, recipes and where she put her glasses and appointments, but she never forgot any of us, ten whole years in, she still remembered us. Now, this may have been luck, but doctors always said the constant mental work + companionship + medicine helped her a lot. So I'm thinking, these people who are now relying on AI for everything, from email-writing to thinking what's for dinner to casual conversations, I've even seen people rely on it to calculate what time they should leave their house if they need to be at a place at a specific time and their commute lasts X number of minutes. As if that's not... the simplest math operation possible? You shouldn't even need a calculator for that!!! Idk I don't know how long it'll take us to see the effects of this + exposure to brain-rotting short form content that is completely meaningless + people addicted to right-wing conspiracy style media. Idk I'm very worried. Please, read, read complicated books! Take up a book on philosophy and try to decipher it and make your own opinions on it, please buy a maths activity book and relearn how to do math, please get a hobby that involves lots of thinking and concentrating. PLEASE!!!
holy SHIT my previous post blew up
(lowkey screamed in surprise and joy when i saw the legend @justcakethanks themself liking my idea)
so yeah. here you go. another stupid one
when did we decide a group of eridians are called a thrum again?
do you guys remember when we used to say oh worm all the time. remember that
is anybody out there
Anyone else thinking about how Important names are to Eridian culture, considering how Rocky addressed himself and Adrian, and what that would mean once Grace got to Erid. (ignore statements of time i refuse to do the conversions)
Imagine, after decades of your world becoming colder and colder, you are saved. A single Eridian, the only one of twenty three to survive, arrives in an alien ship, accompanied by a creature you can barely conceive.
Everything about the alien is so loud, hinges formed from tissue thumping and stretching in constant movement, even while unconscious. Completely organic, reliant of oxygen and hydrogen. Instead of a protective carapace, it regrows its damaged tissues. It has senses you do not, and technology so unlike your own, both able to utilise a force you have never heard of. The same force that killed almost your entire mission team. Highly adaptable, able to teach itself how to fly its ship in under a week, able to become fluent in the engineer's dialect in less than four years.
And if Erid's best engineer is correct (and there's no reason it wouldn't be), this creature not only managed to breed a predator of the warmth-taker to survive in various atmospheres, including Threeworld's, but also turned around to provide aid when it discovered that the predator could escape xenonite.
And you think: Surely, this creature which protects itself without a carapace, which sleeps so lightly and knows so much and learns so quickly, which saved two planets at the cost of ever returning to its thrum, surely, a creature so extraordinary must have a name to match
And you think: Perhaps it is strength, Mountain-Base or Lonsdaleite-Carapace. Perhaps it is intellect, Diamond-Claw or Lockpick-Mind. Perhaps it is courage, Song-Through-Silence or Path-Carver
And you think: None of these names hold the true weight of what this creature is to them. How do you describe something like that, which aids without expectation of anything in return, which risks its own life for the sake of a species it cannot touch, which performs miracles simply because it was asked.
And then you learn: Your saviour's name is Kindness
omg you people can do anything
Gettin the good ads again
i think everyone should program at least once just so you realise just how fucking stupid computers are. because theyre so fucking stupid. a computer wants to be told what to do and exactly that and if you make one typo or forget one detail it starts crying uncontrollably
mourning my emotional support tree
The old pine tree in my grandpa's front yard dropped a branch in the perfect shape of a little house. Even though im grown and grandma looked at me funny for it, it still held a bit of wimsey for me for about two days until grandpa cut it down.
I will alsways remember pinetree house.
