Story Time!!!! : Shaylin
I walked happily into the Cafe, glad to be once again immersed in the exotic scents of spices and herbs, and grateful for the air conditioning blowing a cool breeze throughout the little Tea shop. Just because I always wear long sleeves doesnât mean I donât get hot and no matter what I do my beautiful fluffy, red tail always makes me overheated... I happily walked up to the counter and requested a cup of my favorite, and most frequently tea. Prince of Wales is the perfect tea; caffeinated with earthy tones but never bitter. The waitress smiled, shook her head, and handed me my cup before I even finished my order. I shrugged and picked up my tea, looking around I noticed that the only seat open was next to that wolf girl I had noticed through the window as I walked up. She seemed young, around 22 and rocked a haircut that made me green with envy. I walked up to her quietly and she looked up and smiled. Nervously I asked, âIs anyone sitting here?â She shook her head, so I sat. I watched the children in the park playing as I sipped my tea. I sighed happily, this was definitely the best cup they had ever made. Suddenly the woman I was sitting across from spoke up.
âYou always seem to order the same tea when you come in. Which one is it? Is it really that enjoyable?â I blushed and hid behind my hair, surprised at her question and that she noticed me. I mumbled my response and she seemed a bit skeptical but willing to try new teas. I think she noticed my blush, which isnât hard considering how pale I am and started apologizing. She acted and looked so much like a curious puppy who always got scolded that I had to laugh. I reassured her as I glanced at the book she was reading, âNo itâs alright,â I said, âI just donât normally talk to other people here⊠Ummmm, how are you enjoying youâre book?â She made a face and I laughed again, âIs it not quite your cup of tea? Itâs a romance isnât it....? I bet you normally read more thriller type books.â
She chuckled, âActually I prefer non-fiction.â  I looked at her in disbelief, She smiled. âI love reading about other species and places⊠considering I canât really travel anywhere, reading about it is the next best thingâŠ.I do like mysteries though.â
âNancy Drew and the Hardy Boys all the way!â I exclaimed, excited. âI also loved the Boxcar Kids when I was younger.â We started talking about our favorite novels. She and I had a lot in common, well, except the romance thing.
Randomly as she was taking a sip of tea she said,â Do you like romance novels? I believe Iâm about finished with this one and you can have it if you want it.â I looked at her eyes wide and mouth hanging open. No one had even just casually offered me a book before, and the few I got as gifts were never my favorite genera. âWhat? Iâd prefer to give it to someone who will actually read and cherish it rather than let it sit on my shelf and collect dust. And if you donât want it Iâll probably just give it away to someone elseâ I literally jumped at the opportunity.
âOf course! Iâd Love It!â I exclaimed happily. Books and tea were of the few luxuries I could hold on to.
âGood...â She smiled and sighed. â Oh,â she blurted out suddenly, I feared she wanted her book back till she continued saying, âI forgot to introduce myself.â She stood and offered me her hand, âFay Rose Waya, at your service madam, and may I have the pleasure of your name.â
I blushed and giggled, âMy name is Shaylin Renard LeâFauni, and it is a pleasure to meet your acquaintances...... maybe we can become friends.â I hopped we could, she seemed like an interesting person. Someone whose company I would never become bored of. I also stood, offering my hand and was a little surprised when she clasped my forearm instead of shaking my hand. âSo she likes traditionâ I thought to myself as we sat down.
She slid the book over to me. I gently scooped it up and cradled it in my arms. I read the author and was pleased to see it was by one of my favorites. Jace Wolf Abestia, he always kept the books interesting and doesnât allow them to become pages of cliches.
Fay spoke, â I believe we shall, and I quite enjoy your company so far.â and I smiled at her optimism as we continued chatting. Fay checked her watched and resigned disappointment mixed with a tinge of surprise passed over her face, blowing away her blissful expression.
âI apologize, but I must be leaving you company nowâŠ. will you be back here tomorrow?â Fay questioned, but I shook my head sadly. â How about Sunday? Itâs quite lovely here on Sundays and Iâll even buy you a pot of teaâ I smiled and nodded.
â Sunday is perfect... Itâs my day off...! How about around 4 OâClock?â
â Perfect!â She exclaimed, her tail wagging like crazy. â I canât wait! Well! Have a good rest of the week!â
âYou also! Till we meet again!â She stood and we clasped forearms again and then I watched as she left with a huge smile on her face. Sadly I was not allowed the same luxury and as I hurried home through the park I prayed he was drunk off the beer I had restocked, rather than waiting for me. The house was eerily quiet and all the windows were dark as I walked up the front porch. I quietly unlocked the front door and opened it a crack. Hearing nothing I opened it the entire way and stepped inside.
The house was silent but I didnât let my guard down, he loved to sneak up behind people. Suddenly the door slammed shut and faster than I could react I was grabbed from behind and slammed against the wall, my hands pinned to my sides.
âWhich lucky boy am I chatting with this time. Bitch.â he spat in my ear. I didnât move. âAnswer me.â he commanded.
â It was no one father. I havenât talked to a single boy outside of the ones I interact with during school.â
âThen why do you stink so strongly of wolf.â he spoke furiously, âand I will not tolerate lying!â He slammed me into the wall again to make his point.
I quickly explained, â There was simply no room in the cafe and I had to sit with another patron. A She-Wolf. That is all.â Father sniffed me again and then released me.â... fine⊠go make dinner. Iâm hungry.â
I wordlessly nodded and walked into the kitchen. Fatherâs temper had gotten worse when mother had left. Though I donât blame her for leaving I still condemned her for not taking me with her. I reminded my father too much of her...... âEvery day I fear it will be my last.â I thought with a sigh, then realized I thought out-loud. There was a growl behind me and I spun around stuttering, trying to calm the storm. A fist flew towards my face and connected with my eye. I yipped in pain then covered my head as the blows rained down while my father screamed at me.
âYOU UNGRATEFUL BITCH! I FEED YOU AND CLOTHE YOU! IâLL SHOW YOU HOW IT FEELS TO FEAR FOR YOUR DAMN WORTHLESS LIFE!â I didnât see his knee till it was too late, pain exploded through my jaw and I mercifully passed out.
A NOISE INSIDE MY HEAD
It started quiet, a twinkle in my head like a quiet chord At started soft, a whisper of something more
Everyday quietly, it spoke of magic and miracles Everyday softly, it promised new things money and cure alls
I tried to ignore it, and close off my mind to the temptation it brung I tried to stop it, with every known cure but still on it rung.
Everyday quietly It spoke and every day softly, It promised
One day I listened, i hoped It would leave if it simply said Its' piece One day I learned, of Its' corruption and that set My mind at ease
I was not evil, and I was smart i would not subscum to It I was so proud, of my self-control as I shoved It deep into a pit
But still It came, and in the night interrupted my sleep But still louder It called, all day it talked so I kept shoving It deep.
Everyday genty It spoke and every day quietly, It promised
The month after it started, I listened for real because I was to tired to resist The month after it started, i finally slept as on and on It started to list
It was intelligent, and knew many things like who the next president will be It was magical, and taught me how to curse and truly see
âThe best way to harm, is not direct attack but to sneak aroundâ âThe best way to summon, is through blood candles and sound.â
Everyday It spoke and every day gently It promised
Yet still, I tried to drown It out by screaming out loud Yet still, It rambled on it would till i listen It vowed
I started to drug, myself deep into a stupor i started to twitch, almost driving off the road in my mini cooper
My life moved, entirely down the proverbial drain my life was, always constantly being drown in pain
Everyday louder It spoke and every day It promised
One day those, white coats showed up One day, they told me i have a half empty cup?
They took me, into a van and gave me a jacket They took us, to their lab while mother signed a packet
Pinching and pushing, they probed my mind Poking and prodding, they began to find
Everyday cajoling It spoke and every day louder, It promised
They asked me, strange questions about people and puppies They asked It, some questions about bloodbaths and moneys
We were put, into a plush padded cell I was put into, Its' very special  own hell
It asked me, for candles and hair It asked them, for freedom and fresh air
Everyday boldly It spoke and every day cajoling It promised
i was lonely, in my tiny padded room I was lonely, and that was My mind's Doom
It promised, to set me free if I only listened It promised, many dreams so newly I was christened
The next day, the guard that marched on by The next man, with food had to die
Everyday proudly It spoke and every day boldly, It promised
We escaped, and rushed out into the air and night We almost escaped, but the guards had light
They caught us, by the frontgate They caught Me, and It told me this was fate
It needed to know, how strong their forces are It needed to know, but my faith did it mar
Everyday bullyingly It spoke and every day proudly, it promised
I started again, to be scared of It I started again, to question the motives of It
They said, they could help with some treatment they said, I simply needed some ointment
But It pulsed on, louder prouder and bolder now But it beat me, to submission with all Its' know how
Everyday stronger It spoke and every day bullingly, It promised
After We attacked, My visiting loving family After We hurt her, My love did It truly scare me
Again, I started to fill the air with my screams Again, I blocked it out in all but my dreams
I needed somehow, to get better for All my friends I needed, to do something before It could tie loose ends
Everyday loudly It spoke and every day stronger, It promised
One day suddenly, I woke in a new place One day, I woke to blood on my face
It covered everything, my hands my hair It soaked, into all every single layer
I cried because, this wasn't Me it wasn't my choice I cried till, i was hoarse and without a voice
Everyday jokingly It spoke and every day loudly, It promised
I called the police, to please come help me I called those, whites coats to come save me
they tried to save me, but it was too strong They tried, but in the end were still very wrong
After some time, we were sent home "cured" After more time, the first death was mirrored
Everyday crazily It spoke and every day jokingly, It promised
Finally, they realized we couldn't be saved Finally, I could let my head be shaved
We were, strapped down with a strong silver cable We were tied up, and drugged on an operating table
In the end, they knew we were dangerous but wanted to set me free In the end, they saved others by lobotomizing Me
No longer, could it speak No longer, would it promise
Mermaid
I am a mermaid swimming in the Ocean seas I am lithe, young doing as i please
I have long flowing hair and a body so thin I am the sailors muse and i will always win
I dine apon young hearts filled with affection I will stay young a picture of perfection
I am beauty and love but i must avoid mirrors They show your heart and what it truly holds dear
A mirror shows truth and the ugliness i am A truth i hide for my beauty is but a sham
My scales are as sharp as my teeth and claws My hair is stringy and full of flaws
My eyes are a shade of a bloody, violent red My skin is clammy the pallor dead
My singing coo is magic for men My only true power that takes over them
They claim i am evil because i lead to death They donât understand my want for their last breath
They are my savior lengthening my life They save me from leaving so i save them from strife
Brains and Beauty arenât Everything
A Fruity Tale
On a particularly stifling night in October I get called to the scene of a âHit nâ Runâ around midnight. As I cross the police tape the smell of rotting juice permeates the air and I almost step in one of the larger puddles. I wrinkle my nose in distaste and quickly smooth out my features. I hope it will be a quick investigation, I really need some time to relax and unwind this weekend. I sigh and look at the officer in charge. âWhat is the current status of the case, do we know who the victim is?â âYa, heâs a middle aged Orange by the name of Carl Robberts. He is actually registered in our system as an ex-con man and smuggler, I caught him in the act a couple years back doing some small jobs. Eventually he was convicted and sent to prison for a while. He got out last year and hasnât disturbed the peace sinceâŠ.â âWell at least till nowâŠâ I mutter under my breath. I survey Mr. Robberts and ask out loud, âDoes he have any relatives?â âYa, he married a Strawberry by the name of Marleen Dean... She is also in our system for petty theft, but she cleaned up her act after they got married and their 2 kids were born.â âWell, call the family and let them know what happened.â The officer nodded and stepped outside of the tape. I turned Gigi, the most recent addition at the office and probably the prettiest. Sheâs a beautiful Apple with rosy cheeks and red lips, and the smartest pathologists Iâve ever had on my team. Of course this leads many to be jealous of her, but not me! Iâm such a beauty myself, even if Iâm starting to get bags under my eyes from so many sleepless nights. Iâm still a perfect middle, aged Avocado with gorgeous black skin and an IQ of 132. Oh and Iâm really good at solving mysteries. âFrom my preliminary scan the victim seems to have been hit by a car, but the wound is rather oddly shaped. Itâs almost like he was hit by a car doorâŠ. Look at how the impression is much deeper near his brain than everywhere else. But to be able to hold a door open like that while driving takes some strength, so whoever did this definitely meant to. â âOkay, when we get back have the lab do a tox. screening and figure out what this guy ate last. It may help lead us to the killer.â I turned and surveyed the scene one more time, hoping to see some hidden clue I didnât notice before. Seeing nothing I sighed, I was hoping for a quick and easy case, but this looks like it will push my vacation time back another few days. I ducked under the police tape, walked back to my car and got in.  Someone knocked on my window as I started the engine and I rolled it down. âCan I help you?â I asked the Kiwi standing there. âMaybe... My name is Annette Scratch. The man who got hit, is he Carl Robberts?â She paused and looked at me. âThink so, Why?â I retorted, just a little bit suspicious. She shrank back, looking a little scared. âWell, he was at my bar... The one down the road, itâs called the Gruesome GoblinâŠ.â She looked back at the lights from the only establishment for miles around. âAnnnnd?â âWell he had a fight with another costumer. They were both pretty drunk and their punches didnât do much damage. Be Jeffery, he my current part-time bouncer, separated them and took them outside. I didnât see any of them for the rest of the night.â âReally,â I raised my eyebrow. âYou didnât see any of them. Would you mind giving me Jefferyâs phone number and address, I might need that in the future. Oh and can I have yours as well, Iâd like to question you more later.â She complied and handed me her card with Jefferyâs address scribbled on the back. I took it and left.
The next day, as I pulled up in front of the office I hoped that the case had been solved in my absence. I was tired even with my second cup of coffee, a good murder might wake me up, but Iâm still in need of a vacation. I head into the office and sit at my desk, there was a mountain of paper work. I sighed again. As I went through the papers, I found the lab. report for my murder with a sticky note reading, âWe need to talk ASAP -Gigiâ. I flipped through the report as I walked to the morgue.  He had no drugs in system besides the alcohol and seemed just to be another law-abiding citizen. I opened the door and walked into the cold room, âWhatâs up?â I asked Gigi. âYouâre not going to believe this, but as I was going through his stomach contents I found this!â she spoke rapidly as she held up a bag filled gold nuggets. I sucked in my breath and stared. âHow much is that?â â10 ounces or âbout 10 grand worthâ âShitâ I cussed and stared. âThatâs probably what killed him. Whereâd he find that much gold anyways? And why did he eat it?â Gigi looked at me and shrugged. I handed her the bag back and left. I decided it was time to pay a visit to Mr. Jeffery. I pulled up and double checked the address, yep I had the right one. He lives in apartment 15 on the second story. I wonder around for a bit and scope the place out before I walk up the stairs and knock on the door. A 23ish year old Avocado answers the door. âMay I help you?â he asks in a soft voice. âYa, Iâm looking for a Jeffery Cados, I need to ask him some questions.â âThatâs me, may I ask what for?â I hold up a picture of Carl Robberts and his eyes widen in disgust and realization. âYou can come in,â he motioned towards a small couch, âplease sit and make yourself comfortable.â He spoke as he paced on a worn carpet. âDo you know who this is?â I asked as I sat and took out a pad of paper and a pen... âYeah, last night he and another guy got into a fight⊠something about changing the deal. I asked them to take it outside and when they wouldnât, I resorted to force and dragged them both out. They got pissed and one of them even tried swinging at me. I decided to make sure they both left and offered them rides. The one in the picture, who had swung at me, refused and stalked off. The other was more politeâŠ. and a little less drunk. He said heâd sleep in his car till he was sober enough to drive. I stayed and watched him, eventually he was fine and drove away. By that time my shift was over and I decided to leave. I got back here around 11, told my neighbor Darleen âNightâ and went to bed.â âCan anyone confirm your story?â I asked as I looked up from the paper I was taking notes on. âI believe so, many of the patrons at the Gruesome Goblin know me and they saw me standing outside as they left and Darleen my neighbor saw me come in last night.â I nodded and stood up. âThank you for your time.â âOf course, if have any more questions just stop by the Goblin or here and ask.â I thanked him again and left. He seemed to be telling the truth and his story added up, but I still needed to stop by the Grey Goblin and talk with Annette. I hopped in my truck and drove over to the bar. When I got there I asked for Annette and eventually she showed up. âHello, Iâm the officer from the other day. May I ask you some questions?â âSure!â she led to a corner booth and we sat down. She motioned for a waiter and a second later a glass of water and hamburger appeared in front. I stared at it for a second and dug in. She waited till I was finished eating to start talking. âWhat do you need to know exactly?â she asked. âI need Jefferyâs work hours, and your account of that night.â She quickly recounted her version of the story âJeffery works 7:30 to 10:30⊠I had actually gotten here late and there was a fight by the bar, the two guys were too drunk to do much damage but I called Jeffery over anyways. He tried talking to them and eventually just dragged them out. I didnât see them the rest of the night.â Everything seemed to line up, except the fact that I still donât know who the victim was arguing with. I asked Annette if she could keep an eye out for him. As I was about to leave Annette rushed up to me and grabbed my coat. âHey, thatâs him! Thatâs the guy he was arguing with!â She pointed at the Dragon Fruit walking up to the bar. I quickly assessed him and started walking over. He glanced at me, but didnât really look at me and kept scanning the room I paused, took out my recorder and switched it on as an Apple approached him. They started talking in low voices as I sat next to them at the bar. âWhat happenedâ she asked. I almost startled, that was Gigiâs voice. âHe changed the deal and cut me out, so when I saw him walking I âaccidentlyâ hit him in a drunken stupor. But I donât know where he stashed the goods.â Gigi smiled and handed him a bag. His eyes grew wide, âIs that all of it?â he asked. âAlmost⊠I did keep a small amount for my part of the deal.â I turned off the recorder and stood up, Gigiâs eyes went wide as she realized who I am. âSo youâre the dirty cop.â I said with a serious face. She froze as I pulled out my handcuffs and addressed the Dragon Fruit, âSir you and your accomplice here are under arrest for stealing from a federal building and 1st degree murder. You can come quietly with me now or be taken my force.â They shared a look and shoved me down, they ran as jumped up and called for backup. I knew I couldnât take on both of them alone. I reached the parking lot as a van pulled away, Gigi stuck out of the window and fired at me. Luckily shooting in a moving vehicle is harder than it looks and she missed by a mile. I ran to my truck, hoped in and peeled out of the lot. I called in again and explained the plan. Blockades were to be set up across any and all exits from the town. I watched the taillights go round a bend while I was hot on their heels, Gigi tried firing again and this hit my windshield, I ducked as glass rained down on me, but didnât stop. Eventually we came across on of the blockades and the van came to a screeching halt. It started to back up as I blocked the corner. âThereâs no way out, drop your weapon and please exit the vehicle,â an officer blares into a mega-phone. Gigi and her companion exit the car and she tosses the gun away. I run up from behind them and quickly handcuff them both. âWell, thanks to you this case is solved and I finally get my long weekend. Although, I never really expected you to be a dirty cop. I guess looks and smarts arenât everything. Whyâd ya do it?â I asked. She just snarled and I smiled. I nodded to the officer in charge and left. Finally I get my long vacation.
The Creation of Life
In the beginning there was nothing, but a black void so dark and empty it makes the darkest nights seem like day. Out of this void two forces appeared and grew. Chaos a bright churning force of irrationality and Order, the force of reason and calm balance. These two contrasting forces immediately clashed for dominance over the other and during this battle some of Chaos was broken and accidently taken by Order. They paid little attention to the several small orbs that had formed out of their unintentional cooperation. Â As Order began to win the orbs, some of which were super-heated and spewing lava during the conflict, cooled. Eventually Chaos was subdued and it sunk into an endless sleep. Order finally paid attention to the arid orbs, which it called the planets and the sun. Order watched the funny planets and saw how barren they were. Order noticed one planet was more habitable than the others and called it Earth. It decided to create a being to rule this newly named planet. It used dust from the planet, some of itself, and Spirit to create a being. Sadly the body of the newly created god crumpled and fell apart under the hot dry sun. The spirit floated free on the planet wandering alone. Order resolved to try again and created the new being out of Water, itself and Spirit. The god evaporated and rained over the planet as it searched for a companion to be with. So Order created one more god, one made of Life, instead of Water. The two gods met and as the rain god soaked the earth, the soil became fertile and life appeared in the forms of beautiful flowers, majestic trees and every plant imaginable. Order watched with interest till it grew weary from its battle wounds and joined Chaos in endless slumber. Chaos stirred. The gods, even though they now had each other, were still lonely because the earth was only filled with plants. So they decided to try their hand at creation and started to create animals out of various elements they found. These animals were all given different specialized talents and gifts, such as: flight, speed, shells, camouflage, strength, etc. They were allowed to wander the earth without knowledge of death, sickness and other chaotic attributes. Because none of the animals could die, the gods did not grant them the power to create life. They wanted to keep the animal population from exploding and overwhelming the planet. Even with all the new animals the gods were still lonely, wanted the companionship of someone resembling themselves. They decided to create the newest creature in their own image, so they created the first man out mud. The man started to dry out and when it rained he walked out of his shelter and washed away. The gods were not discouraged, and decided to create the next man out of sturdier elements. Their new creation was a hardy man made of stone and as he stood in the rain and let it poor down him they decided he would do. Since they had already given all the best traits away, the gods didnât know what they could give man. Finally the rain god said to give him reason, curiosity, and made him the keeper of Earth. They also decided that the man needed a companion to help and accompany him in the care of the Earth. So they made a women out of reeds, so she would be flexible and bow to the manâs will. The woman and man walked among the animals and conversed with them all. Because none of the animals needed to eat to live, they all were friends and you could often find the zebras, alligators, and lions talking and playing together. They would lounge together in the endless summer days and rest peacefully. The gods, happy with their creations, decided to retire and sleep while all was peaceful. Â The gods leaving was all Chaos needed to regain conscious and shake the Earth. As he started to wake the Earth was filled with terror. He made volcanoes erupt and caused a massive flood that destroyed most plant life. He also released death, illnesses, seasons, nights, hardship and famine, letting his chaos spread. Animals that couldnât bear the thought of eating another became herbivores and those who had no qualms about it became the carnivores and omnivores. The gods, sensing that all was not well, awoke and saw the destruction on the Earth. They beat Chaos back into slumber to stop him from causing more destruction, but the damage done. They watched the Earth, saddened by the destruction and hurt caused to their creations. The animals needed help or they would all soon die. The gods created lesser lights in the sky to keep the night from being completely dark and showed most of the animals how to sleep during the dark nights. Then they set the seasons in an order and had them flow into each other rather than abruptly change. Knowing that they couldnât constantly make new life, the gods gave the animals the gift of life, but didnât allow them to have a vast control over it. The animals could have children within their species and could only bare as many as needed to survive. As for the spirits of the deceased, the gods found the first god, made him ruler of the dead and gave him a vast underground kingdom. Their final act was to change all the languages of the different animal species. This helped the animals to be able to form herds of similar species and to not be lured to a hunter by the sound of its voice. Chaos, though he is always slumbering, has stirred and caused tragedies throughout history, such as: the Black Plague, Cholera, Civil Wars, Revolutions, World Wars, Terrorist attacks and other catastrophes. So the gods constantly fight a losing battle trying to keep Chaos from waking. Â One day Order may awake again if needed, but until then the world is a battle field where Chaos has been turned to Order.
Another Nameless Grave
âAt least I have shoes.â I thought and closed my eyes as the wind blew more sand into my face, hair and over my clothes. I had long ago stopped brushing it off and my white shirt turned brown with a mixture of sweat and sand. Even my shoes were small comfort as the hot sand found holes in my defenses and irritated my feat. I shifted my backpack to the other shoulder in hopes that it would relieve some pain, but only succeeded in making both ache as I trudged. I was hot, sweaty and tired but I knew that to rest would be death; as the wind-blown sand would cover my body and I would be buried alive. After the sandstorm passed I found a cactus and celebrated for this small life. I broke off spines and gouged out a handful of it flesh too eat as I carried on, and stored the rest I had taken in my bag. I remember the sun set that night, my 15th night out there and I remember looking at the sky and counting the stars as I lay on my backpack-pillow and fell asleep. I slept till around noon for once, woken by an angry bird and the hot sun. I jumped up and kicked the vulture off my leg and it screamed as it flew into the sky. It had become my traveling companion and was constantly checking if I was dead. I glared at it, âYou wish I was dead didnât you, I could feed you for days.â I spoke out-loud and startled, I had spoken in rough voice that couldnât be mine, but then I realized my mouth was open. That bird made me open my mouth and waste precious water! âYou think youâre going to follow me till I die donât you. You think Iâll be your dinner, but I WILL prove you wrong. I will survive!â I thought venomously and scowled at the bird. Since I was awake I decided to march on and continue my journey. I didnât know exactly where I was going, but I figured if I walked towards the setting sun at least I wouldnât go in circles and I may eventually find shelter. As I walked I ate some of my meager store of cactus; it wasnât the best breakfast I have ever had, but it satisfied thirst and staved off hunger. I walked wearily on and let my mind travel to better days. I day dreamed off food so realistic I started salivating, and I could here friends and family calling. âJoin us! Eat and drink! Have fun!â They called and I half ran, half stumbled towards them. âIâm comi-, â I stumbled and fell, awakening myself from my daydream. I cursed myself for letting my mind wander and running. That little precious energy I had wasted could be the difference between life and death, between becoming dinner and eating one. I needed to stay focused on walking, so I got up to continue on and stared ahead frozen. I rubbed my dry eyes, but the image I saw did not disappear; an oasis with cool green grass, a few trees and water. âWATER!â I thought, and ran. Even after falling, I ran desperately towards the oasis. It was always ahead, but I had to reach it. I felt lighter, as if a weight had fallen off my shoulders and gave me wings.âI will drink and bathe and find food! I will be safe, rescued. I have to make it!â I put on a last desperate burst of speed, stumbled, fell into the only rock for miles around and blacked out. When I came to I sat upright and gasped for air, a sandstorm had come during the day and buried my body in a thin layer of sand. I coughed, as sand grated against my dry throat and looked wildly around for the oasis. It was gone. âNo.â I breathed, chocked and started sobbing, I didnât care anymore. I had ran after and illusion, a desert trick and I would not survive. The vulture would get a feast and I would be buried in the ever shifting sand. I searched for my backpack as a last ditch effort for survival, afraid and remembering the weight lifting from my shoulders the day before. I decided to walk on in hopes of reaching shelter before I died, I wouldnât just give up. I would starve that vulture for as long as possible and make him suffer as I am. So I got up and walked. I walked the rest of the night and half the day before collapsing from exhaustion and waking again to the cold of night. As I walked I started talking, my voice was rough at first as I told the vulture of my wife and family, sometimes it would crack and I would tear up as I thought of the son I would never meet. As I raved and went mad two more days and nights passed, my legs grew weary, my feet tired, and I had developed a bad cough. âOnly one more dune.â I chanted under my breath, but I knew soon I wouldnât be able to walk anymore. I made stories of life after death and contemplated what would happen to my body. I imagined flesh rotting away, my bones taken by animals or being buried in the sand till they become dust and blow in the wind. Sometimes I complained about life and unfairness; how I was too young to die, too good to die and how this shouldnât be my fate. I walked over another dune and another, till night fell and I collapsed on the sand. As I lay there I wondered how much longer I would last, maybe one more day and night. Then the vulture would have his gruesome feast and I would experience the next life. âMaybe Iâll be recreated or maybe I will just disappear. Gone foreverâŠ..â I fell asleep for what I believed would be my last time. When I woke up I laid on the sand till it became unbearably hot and forced me to stand, then I walked. I didnât pay much attention to what was going on around me till I stumbled, exhausted and had to stop walking. I looked around and blinked, rubbing my eyes. I saw the oasis taunting me again, just a few steps away. It seemed cool and inviting, but I knew it wasnât truly there, even with this thought I stumbled towards it. The cool, blue water called to me as the mirage grew larger and seemed to be getting closer. Maybe it wasnât a mirage,â Maybe I am dead and this is heaven.â I thought. I believed this till my feet touched the cool grass and I walked under the shade of the trees. âNo mirage would be this real⊠no heaven this sweet! Iâm alive! I have shelter and water! I really will survive!â I ran to the water and knelt at its edge, still not quite believing this was reality till I lowered my cupped hands in the water. I wept as I drank its life giving water. I felt the cool sweet water as it slid down my throat; rejuvenating every cell in my body. I felt my tongue unstick from the roof of my mouth and my parched, cracked lips burn. I was saved and one day I knew I would see my family again, I would see my son, wife parents and brothers. With these happy thought and a content body I fell asleep, only to wake to a horrible pain. My stomach cramped with unimaginable pain and I doubled over on my side. My eyes watered and I gasped with pain, I turned my head and retched on the sand over and over. I threw up everything in my stomach till there was nothing left of the water I had drunk. My throat burned as I retched till I stopped convulsing and lay still in pain till I mercifully blacked out. When I finally came to I was more careful and only drank a small mouthful of water, then I examined my surroundings. I would need food soon also, I no longer had any cactus and I did not want to leave my new shelter to search for food. Not seeing any visibly edible plants I carefully stood hunched over. I walked to an edge of the oasis and laboriously explored the outer edge, it was surprisingly smaller than I had originally thought. Only 100 paces around with the water 40 paces away on one side and 70 in on the opposite. The vegetation was sparse with three tress, grass and several strange looking bushes. Some of the bushes had flowers, but on had fruit. I didnât know if it was edible or not but it was the only food I could find besides grass. I knew I would need to eat so I gently plucked a berry off the bush. It was small, round, smooth and the outer skin had no flavor when I licked it, so gently I bit it and immediately spat it out. The vile flavor made me gag as it coated my tongue and throat, I rushed back to the water and tried to wash the taste way. The taste was eventually gone and I stopped gagging, but then my stomach growled at me, so I walked back to the bush. I pulled off another berry, cringed, but managed to swallow it whole. My stomach cramped for more and I became a crazed animal ripping berries off the bush and swallowing them stems and all. The weeks of starvation had finally caught up to me and my shrunken stomach cried out for nourishment. I stuffed myself till I thought I would explode, then finally content I lay down to sleep.
The Paradoxes of Modern Society
So much money, but nothing new to buy Needing nothing, taking everything With big men, in small suits Generous souls, always taking With smart men, saying dumb things Speaking more words, with less meanings We seek friendship, but push people away We are all unique, but exactly the same We donât judge, but hide our faces We have our own style, like everybody else Taught more, but learn less Have more, but do less We feel more, without emotions We have more freedoms, but need more laws We are safe, but have more locks All outgoing, but totally hidden Religions hate gays, but love all people Science explains, but theories always change Studying the Earth, while knowing the moon Drugs are dangerous, but there is medicine for everything With a long life, no longer worth living
Picture
I am captured in beauty I am stopped young My hair done perfectly My pearls clasped at my throat My black dress smooth as silk I am frozen in perfection And while she grows old I am young I am a moment of perfection A moment of strength A moment of power and future A moment of happiness But as she grows old I am still young I am a young her lost in time Now she holds me with wrinkled hands Now she is aged and tired Now she wishes for a better time But as I stay she changes And forgets about the better times
I Am A Shell
I am a Shell on an Ocean Breeze I float where ever I Please I once was a Home But now alone,
I have ridges like the mountainous Land I am shaped by Water and Sand I am rough with grooves But still quite smooth,
I am white as Foam on the Sea I floated eternally free I once was safe But now I chafe, Against the Ocean floor.
Russia
The frozen breaths fogging the air. Noses red, loud singing, raucous laughter and the harsh sounds of gaiety. Winter coats and bottles of cheer. Stars as bright as the day. Snowy white lakes and dark green trees. A snowy forest with heavy branches dipping low. The stars light against the sky but dark to the snow. Tracks, a flash of gray and a wolfâs call. Hot chocolate inside, with a cold storm outside. Silently falling and making the world pure. I miss you, from Russia with love.
Poem of Ridiculous Jargon
The scholarly satire of this melancholy poem May miff of pique a petulant child
These lugubrious prose of witty veneration May be cherished or adored by the callow world
These laconic rhymes of impotent language May vex some with itâs allusive subject
This condescending tone of superior jargon May befuddle those of lethargic minds
This obnoxious speech of trepidatious bewilderment May repulse the cynically authoritative
The pretentious schemes of mystically cultured humor May patronize adults sense of chauvinism
These audacious rhetorics of esoteric origin May sooth males of euphoric jejune
These iconoclastic phrases of platonic consequences May deject or demoralize those of light hearts
This invective diction of didactic zealousness May scorn with ardor your poetic disbelief
This acrimonious syntax of impotent trite May fervor all the bombastic grotesque
The sardonic stanzas of dissident sentience May bristle what abstruse apprehension is left
To end this poem of simple homespun words May sound a bit absurd but now it is done so write your own and have some fun
Poets
Now a days poets are Depressed And i believe itâs time i Addressed The issue of this Disease
Why must we all be Blue Will joyful and happy just not Do For writing a poetic line or Two
Why must happiness be Out It makes me feel the need to Shout Stop being such a Lout
I know your Sad And your problems are Bad but it still makes me Mad
To see teens and Young All mopey and Hung On a song theyâve already Sung
Just for a moment look and Wonder With childlike joy at the sound of Thunder Without going down deep Under
Let all the cold Rain Wash away the Pain Without thinking of loss or Gain
And write a Rhyme It doesnât have to be in Time Or even longer than a Line
That makes you Smile One that you ponder for thousands of Miles About all thatâs Worthwhile.
Resilience
Death rides despair and war brings ruin Greed overpowers need while plague infects kin Pestilence plagues and famine eats all Despair devours hope while the mighty fall
Horsemen ride and kingdoms crumble Ashes rise while mountains rumble Wars are lost and kingdoms won Peasants die while nobles run
Hell hath fury and flaming swords Demons destroy while Satan lords Hell is now earth and most canât cope Heaven is lost but humans still Hope
They rebuild life by harnessing the earth Cities glitter built with everything of worth Towers touch then scrape the sky Wings of metal teach man to fly
War is shoved aside so he canât rule He becomes a jester just a fool Men love and hope for a long life Even when death wields his scythe
Though men still speak and answer to greed They try to work or soften it with need Never again will the horsemen ride Though they will always walks alongside
Whereâd You Go Zoe?
âHey Zoeâ I called to the whispering wind âWhereâs ya go?â I ask the frigid sky
Are you up up in those clouds Stirring up a storm Till grudgingly you let sunset Paint the night orange
Are you the one Messing with the weather Waring a sweater And making snow feathers
Or some where underground Are you asleep In a place so quiet There isnât ever a peep
Are you that humming bird That zips close by Trying to teach me how to dance As it flies
Are you finally Spreading your wings Flying high in the sky As a lone violin weeps and sings
Or are you rocking out On the Vibraphone Jamming with musicians Barely thinking of home
Just know, though As you sleep, rock or play We miss you and love you And canât wait to see you again one day
Not The Only Oneâs
School warns to stay away from addictive substances like Crack cocaine An acid trip very dangerous and being high is saying goodbye They even said ponder just think Before your lips touch a drop of drink
But they didnât warn against the heady rush of adrenaline every time we touch They decided we wouldnât miss the sweet power of natures kiss The never warned how waterfall till down you tumble, makes you feel tall
They told the dangers of depression taught as quick lesson Saying that when drugs stay monsters in your head love to play But they didnât explain the truth of young love and pain.
They didnât explain the sweet and sour of having and losing power That flames burn higher when you start the fire Till itâs ripped out of your life bringing you close to the knife
