Holy shit op this is LITERALLY in the book 'Never Split The Difference: Negotiating as if Your Life Depends On It'. Written by a guy who did hostage negotiation and then tried doing business negotiation, and mopped the floor with industry experts.

I'm fortunate enough to have a primary care doctor who knows about hEDS, but it's occurring to me that the skills in this book could be medically life changing for chronically ill folks of all kinds. Like. Literally a matter of life and death, especially for BIPOC and/or fat and/or young people who are having their issues dismissed.

I think there’s a conversation to be had about how “animal rights activism” is generally considered the easiest form of activism because it allows one to disconnect themselves from overall societal issues, and it’s why many celebrities consider themselves to be animal rights activists, but due to a complete lack of research and complacency on what animal rights activism actually entails, most of these activists end up doing a lot more harm than good. They’re the people who will only focus on stray dogs and cats during natural disasters or genocides that kill thousands of human beings; or the people who boycott “kill shelters” and replace them with “no-kill shelters” despite the fact that this lack of understanding on how these shelters work directly leads to the deaths of more animals; or the people who replace animal products with “vegan alternatives” that have more impact on the environment than the original products; or the people who don’t understand why the natural next step in Greta Thunberg’s environmental activism was to advocate for Palestine.

Like, animal and environmental rights activism is so misunderstood by the people within the movement who are doing it for all the wrong reasons, and it’s mostly because they do not understand that animal rights and human rights are so intrinsically connected that you cannot seperate the two at all without watering down your activism into a complete nothingburger.

It’s also because they don’t do basic Google searches on how things work either, but that’s neither here nor there.

not seeing a lot of people on here talking about ICE murdering another man yesterday. His name was Lorenzo Salgado Arajou. He was a Mexican man living in Huston Texas. He was killed at age 52 and lived the past 35 years here in the USA, and was in the process of obtaining a work permit. He was shot and killed during a traffic stop that ICE claims was part of a targeted operation, and claimed he was “weaponizing his vehicle”- the same claim ICE agents made when they shot and murdered Renee Good.

During the stop, Lorenzo had 3 coworkers with him in his truck who have all been taken into ICE custody.

His family described Lorenzo as a hardworking family man who didn’t deserve to be killed. All he wanted was to provide for his wife and see his sons become great people. His eldest son recognized his father by his cries and pleas when trying to identify who the victim was.

The Salgado Araujo family has set up a gofundme to help with funeral and legal costs, and to help keep their family supported since Lorenzo was the sole provider.

A concept: Steve and Jake as brothers.

Jake's younger. He always looked up to Steve, it's partially why he joined the Army too. They're supportive and protective of each other. Steve tends to call Jake to simply ask if he ate some vegetables that week 😆

My brain went somewhere you probably weren't expecting with this. Canonically Jake has to pretend he died in combat and I'm just thinking of Steve getting word that his little brother is dead.

He cries in private, wanting to be strong for their sister and niece. But at the funeral, closed casket because there was no body, he can't hold back. He was supposed to be Jake's protector, to keep his family together.

When Jake turns up again, Steve doesn't give him time to explain before grabbing him in a big bear hug and just sobbing. He doesn't let go for a long time because he was so scared he'd lost his little brother. That he'd failed his most important mission.
