Ideas for World of Warcraft
There was actually an interesting discussion in Trade chat that didn’t involve trolling, “anal” links, and the usual nonsense.
I will expand upon the ideas. The addition of a shipyard on test servers inspired me to think about sea travel and maybe seeing even more of Draenor. In other games (Pirates of the Carribbean, Star Wars:TOR, Star Trek Online) you can get in a ship and travel (granted the latter two games are in space). While travelling you can fight NPC ships and even player ship. I’m not in to PvP, so I wouldn’t wan to fight player ships (but I wouldn’t object to it being an option so people who are flagged PvP or on PvP servers can have fun with that-- but maybe there can be “Sanctuary” areas where people can travel unmolested). Anyway, currently Draenor is one large continent surrounded by ocean. I could see them having room to expand it to have more continents and little islands. Maybe some quests can involve transporting goods from one island to another.
I think the maximum number of followers should be increased. I’ve noticed that the garrisons seem to have some room for expansion, so I think it would be nice to get up to lvl 5 garrisons. I know the alliance side garrisons hinted about that with the architect saying he would get larger paper and maybe add some turrets. I would love to be able to explore more of the garrison buildings-- be able to go up into that clocktower on alliance side. I’m not sure what to say about the Horde garrison. It’s just ugly. I would dearly love to be able to change the style of your garrison to another racial style. For horde, there could be a blood elf style or Undercity style garrison as options. For alliance maybe something more like the Draenei or Night Elf style. I’d love to have more medium and large lots to work with.
With the expansion of the explorable world in Draenor, I would love to have new playable races. In particular, I very much want to have Saberon as a playable race. I know some people pitched the idea of Arakkoa as playable, and I’m ok with that, but I don’t think I would play them. People were discussing making one race horde and the other alliance-- but I’m pretty sure that would piss off some players who want to keep their faction but still play a specific race. So, I propose that they do it like the Pandarans-- let players choose which side they want to be. Now, this can be done after a certain level, or they can start off with choosing upon creation and the story will be tailored to fit whichever option they selected. I’d love to have a lost island full of sophisticated Saberons that have carved out a place in a forested area. Their homes can be up in trees like Kelethin in EverQuest- only they can live inside giant tree trunks as well. With their sharp claws, they can be proficient at manipulating wood. Maybe they could add a new profession of woodcraft (which I will touch on more later in the post). The playable saberons could have a number of different textures-- tiger, leopard, panther, Cringer (green with orange stripes), etc. Maybe different tail styles and mane styles. Also, in their towns, they would no longer just crap on the floor-- there would be sandboxes.
Another suggestion is a new playable class: Bards. Other games have managed to pull it off. I was particularly fond of my bard in EverQuest. I would play Selo’s Accelerando and zip around like crazy with a trail of sparkles representing the music following me. The devs could look at what other games have done and come up with their own spin. Some of my ideas involve spec or stances. A bard would have four main styles of music: Voice, Percussion, Stringed, and Wind. Bards could be tanks, dps, healers, or dps/heal hybrids. There might be some songs that are primarily singing or a combination of singing and instrument use (except for wind because that would have the voice occupied-- unless it was something like a didgeree doo or kazoo that amplified/altered the voice somehow-- so humming would go along with it). There would be different instruments that are best suited to each spec. Perhaps engineers could even make a multi-instrument that can be a combination of 2 or more of the different styles. IIRC, in EQ there was a stringed drum. I don’t know what it would be called, but there could be something that incorporates all 3 instruments. I’m not sure how the casting would actually be handled. In EQ you could “twist” songs so that you would start one song, stop, and then start another while the affect of the first song was still going and you would repeat to keep the effects up. This could be rigged with a macro. It was a bit annoying if a stun or missed note interrupted the flow-- and it was particularly challenging on slow internet connections with upload delay. Maybe it can work somewhat like shaman totems where the effects persist. I know that I would LOVE to have a song that boosts runspeed for the group. I think that the wind instrument spec would be a healing spec since their hands and mouths would both be occupied during fights. With stringed spec, they could have modified instruments that can be used as weapons to bonk things. Damage from wind would be like an eardrum-piercing note-- but when not actively playing the instrument, they could use the instrument to jab or bludgeon the enemies.
Moving on to the suggestion of a new profession, it would be nice if players could have a third profession now or if they could have a profession add-on of sorts. Maybe woodcraft could be a new facet of existing professions. Perhaps gathering wood could be an option-- it could use the same trees that are already around to be harvested. People with lumbermills can get extra wood that can be used for crafting either via work orders or sometimes when the timber is first being harvested. If it is added to crafting things, maybe sap could be extracted for things like alchemy. Wood parts could be used to enhance weapons and maybe add some wood fibers or something for armor in blacksmithing. In leatherworking it could be used to add wood studs or use oils extracted from the wood to treat the leather somehow. For jewelcrafting, maybe there could be some wood settings or wood decorations added in. I’m just spitballing ideas here. I miss some of the crafting skills from EverQuest (but I don’t miss the hostile attitude of Sony Online Entertainment). If we went with an entirely new profession that stands alone, it would be interesting to figure out what they could make? Maybe with woodcraft, players could make ships, furniture, buildings, etc.
On to world events: I would love it if Darkmoon Faire lasted longer than one week. I never see the rabbit up and would love a shot at the pet. It would be nice if archaeology involved gathering things that are already on the island instead of fossils. I would also really love to have a Darkmoon Faire Scenario where you see how the carnies first came to crash on the island and go through the adventure with them (through the eyes of one of the carnies perhaps) or maybe you are in a time warp of sorts and your character gets to go along for the ride and help them survive and set the faire up.
For next year’s Children’s Week, I would love to have Saberon and Arakkoa orphans to help. Like the Dalaran quest, once completed they would become non-combat pets. It would be nice to be able to help a Pandaran orphan as well. Rewards from Pandaria orphan quests could be: Pangolin (only with reworked model so it has a thicker tail like a real pangolin instead of looking like an armadillo), pearl serpent hatchling (would be white and maybe shimmery), and azure serpent hatchling (like the cloud serpent Arenji in Shrine of Seven Stars). It would also be neat if they made use of the “Cringer” texture to add a cat battle pet-- but that could be through a different event.
For the next Noblegarden, I would love to be able to get the purple/pink rabbit model as a battle pet. Instead of being a critter it could be magic. Or it could be a critter that uses some magic attacks.
I have brain freeze so I will add to this later.
