This isn’t me saying young people are stupid, it's me saying, we have a massive fucking problem if young people can't even do simple tasks with computers considering how digital our world is

#I teach 11-18 yos and this is one of the things that has struck me the most #also part of the problem seems to be their lack of resilience when it comes to reading instructions????#they will ask what to do before actually reading the email in front of them that has clearly laid out instructions telling them what to do #it’s baffling #I think part of the reason is bc the websites they grew up on were super intuitive and basically just told them where to click #whereas if you were born any time before mid 2000s we grew up on websites that encouraged and/or required some working things out to use #if not straight up coding ala neopets #but also education seems to have drifted away from basic computer literacy (or some form of ICT lessons)#the school I work at teaches computer science but what use it is for kids to wrestle with trying to understand binary code if they can’t #use or even open microsoft word
