More than 200 species make their homes at America’s most diverse sanctuary, but construction through the reserve could begin in February

Construction illegally started here last year without the proper paper work. And implied threats.

This wasn’t even eminent domain, because they never seized the land they just started showing up with it still privately owned.

So, I live nowhere near here, but if anyone wants to try to do something I felt I should spread the word.

This should be something supporters of private land ownership and enviornmentalists both agree on.

People have been trying to fight this for months and there’s nothing we can do. It’s possible species will go extinct as a result of this. There’s also a state park they’re destroying.

Feels bad because now I’m in a position to protect every spider I ever meet from the room full of jerks who don’t appreciate her beautiful legs or useful webs and I have to catch her and put her outside and it’s a lot of responsibility to have shunted onto you

A new open access study by leading scientists rebuts unfounded criticisms and reaffirms the need for effective outdoor cat control.

According to researchers, coordinated critics have mounted a “misinformation campaign designed to purposefully fabricate doubt regarding the harmful impacts of outdoor cats and stymie policies that would remove outdoor cats from the landscape.”

The conflict stems from a groundbreaking study published in 2013 by scientists from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That study evaluated the combined impact of the tens of millions of outdoor cats in the United States. The authors found that roaming outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year and are the leading source of direct, human-caused mortality to birds in the country. Similar results have since been confirmed in Canada and Australia.

To those of you still in denial about how bad outdoor cats are to wildlife not just in your own countries but globally here’s the cold hard scientific facts stating that you are apart of a movement of uneducated critics spreading misinformation.

ITS NOT RESCUING AN ANIMAL IF YOU DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM AND DO NOT AGREE TO MEDICAL OR SURGICAL TREATMENT WHEN THEY ARE ILL

@ people who want to rehab wild animals in their home and don’t want to take them to the vet in case they suggest euthanasia

it’s illegal to keep an animal in your care that is suffering and to not provide them vet treatment… like if you pay for treatment the vet will treat it…. not to mention sometimes euthanasia is the kindest option, especially for a wild animal

This was posted in a group I am in recently. It’s very common to read things like this. How people can think this is appropriate… Two pheasants in a dog crate for six weeks, no medical treatment, worsening condition… 😫

Oh god DONT get me started on wildlife do gooders in the general public 😩😩😩 they fill me with absolute rage

We once had a lady tell us we couldn’t pts a severely injured, mauled by predator, pigeon bc it was “her pigeon” that she feeds in her garden, and she just wanted us to fix it, not kill it. If we didn’t do what she wanted, she’d take it to a wildlife rehabber instead. We let her do that, it got PTS immediately there anyway. (Not to mention the fact by taking it there, she was willfully admitting it was wildlife and not a pet)

So many instances of this that boil my blood
