This is a bit of a wild one as I went 'lol what if I wrote a mermay fic one of these days' and then I stewed in regency romance novels for a while and then I went 'lol wait what if'

I actually started this a few years ago (as attested by uh, the previous post on this blog OTZ) but it's finally in a condition where I feel like I can post it. More than half complete at the moment so the plan is to conclude before May...

The historical details are pretty dense but I'm going to include some notes on the fic and more extensive ones here when I get time 🪶

Been reading the absolutely amazing Timkon fic The Life that is to be Mine by @wynterstars , its the latest fic in a 1990s series by them :3, all of the fics are amazing but its defo my favorite out of the 3, so I just had to make some fanart of a scene, also to practice comics :3

I adore identity shenanigans so this has been such a treat to read, everyone ever should go read it, absolute banger

I remembered the Justice Lords setting and wanted to write something that was at the same time flirty and funny and a little bit sad.

Unsure I'm ever going to complete this fic bc the premise is a little weird but I've been giggling all day about this silly conversation excerpt so:

"And…well, you can't deny that some of this looks pretty bad, if you don't know about, you know." Tim gestured vaguely at the floor. "There really was the time you joined that cult. And as cults go the Cult of Blood is like…pretty cult-y?"

Dick sighed. "I forgot about the Cult of Blood. God."

"How did you forget about an entire evil organization?"

"I was trying to deal with one of my best friends being possessed by the king of hell who was also her father so I was kind of preoccupied after that."

"Jesus."

"No, Trigon."

Tim raised a hand. "Moving on," he said quickly, which was pretty fair because thinking about Titans drama could break your brain if you hadn't lived it. "There was also that time Deathstroke kinda brainwashed you? So maybe we're at two cults."

"Oh my god I forgot about Deathstroke…"

"Court of Owls, that's three…"

"God."

"Though Blood was the only public one. Still. One cult is probably…more than the normal number of cults the average twenty-something joins? Unless you count multi-level-marketing. Did you know Ra's Al-Ghul runs Mary Kay?"

Dick blinked at him. "What?"

"Controlling stake through a shell company. I have a plan in case I need to take over one of these days."

"I repeat, what?"

"It's just that I don't think one of those pink cars would go with the Robin suit…"

Around this point it dawned on Dick that Tim was joking. Mostly. He hoped.

God I wish there was a database where you could look up comics characters and see who knows whose secret identities in which continuity

it’s so hard to look up sometimes and I can’t reread 30 years of comics every week to check

(re: your tags) if it helps: by the time he’s an adult/working as arsenal, roy definitely knows batman is bruce wayne

iirc after dick shares his identity with the teen titans (i thiiiiink during fab five days??? or maybe early NTT) it was kinda inferred that if the titans knew dick = robin then they likely knew bruce = batman. also once death in the family (1988) happens and jason dies, the titans definitely knew dick = nightwing -> jason = robin -> bruce = batman

i could be very wrong on the titans info bc theres too many titans comics to keep track of, and COIE (1985) happened as NTT (1984) was ongoing, which means timelines/stories are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at best (and anyone is free to correct me if i’m wrong!)

but i know for sure that by batman plus arsenal (1997) roy definitely knows who batman is, which means that by the time lian’s [almost] a preschooler he knew the big bat’s identity

So I found out about Meows Morales
