A day before ep 19, I want to shed some light on Vincenzo’s micro-expressions during the airport scene, which I feel should be appreciated alongside Chayoung’s original lines. The order of things said in Korean is often the opposite in English, so some may have missed the exact moment in which her words truly touched his heart and how connected they truly are.

Let’s take a look at that scene again:

Chayoung chased after Vincenzo and recited that beautiful Italian quote, to which they each reacted like this, smiling and simply enjoying each other’s presence.

But after this is where the mood shifts palpably. Instead of “Don’t get hurt”, as is commonly translated, Chayoung in fact says, in great courage and vulnerability, these words first: “나도 같이 아프니까” or

“I’d feel your pain too”

It was after hearing these words that Vincenzo’s expression softened, his eyes tinged with sadness and longing, visibly moved and in awe of the woman before him.

I don’t know about you, but I think this is the first time Vincenzo has ever shown such an expression in all 18 episodes.

Even before Chayoung could complete her sentence with “so don’t you ever get hurt”, he understood instinctively what she meant. That they were indelibly carved into each other’s hearts and their lives were irrevocably woven together. That her heart aches for what aches his, her soul is tortured by what tortures his, and that all those moments in which he thought he was alone in his anguish, she had actually been feeling it with him too.

And it was the same for him as well. He knew that if anything happened to Chayoung, he would never be the same. Now that he was to be separated from her for the first time in months, he must have thought, How could I possibly leave her? Why did I think I could survive being separated from her?

So he left the plane and ran.

I remember first learning that you can cry from any emotion, that emotions are chemical levels in your brain and your body is constantly trying to maintain equilibrium. so if one emotion sky rockets, that chemical becomes flagged and signals the tear duct to open as an exit to release that emotion packaged neatly within a tear. Everything made sense after learning that. That sudden stability of your emotions after crying. How crying is often accompanied by the inability to feel any other emotion in that precise moment. And it is especially beautiful knowing that it is even possible to experience so much beauty or love or happiness that your body literally can’t hold on to all of it. So what I’ve learned is that crying signifies that you are feeling as much as humanely possible and that is living to the fullest extent. So keep feeling and cry often and as much as needed
