but what i really liked in this episode is that we see there's another layer: the class difference he feels much more keenly than she does

it hurts him to see her in the kitchen cooking to feed his bros, because he's an honorable period man, and though having been poor, he doesn't see the poor as dirt, class is still engrained in him. he disdains the frivolities of the rich, but he still wants to give his upper-class-born wife that

so when sanniang encourages him to just marry her, notice how he says first she doesn't see marriage as more than a business partnership

...and you think this means he's waiting for her to love him. but actually, he says he already knows she has feelings for him, though she might not be very consciously aware:

he wants a place in her heart, but he says already know he's there. and he says it's enough!

sooo... what's he waiting for then?

not her conscious love nor a confession of love from her, but a change in his own ability to provide the type of lifestyle he can't help but want to give her. his desperation and recklessness for promotions make so much sense in this context: every time he sees her, he's spurred on by his desire to restore her to the class he can't help but see between them

Okay, I'm just gonna say it. There are some episodes of Rebels that I like better than others because they're 10% chaos and 90% Hera being grumpy/sarcastic/snarky/anything that offsets her usual vibe. I love sarcastic Hera. For example, Idiot's Array, Season 1 Episode (i think 7?). Hera is so freaking sick of Lando, and you can see it! She also hits not one but two people with a TRAY?! Amazing! Hera is a sarcastic, snarky, incredibly loyal badass of a woman! Okay, rant over.

every so often i remember how awesome the modern interconnected multicultural world is. i grew up getting to hear fairy tales from all over the world. africa, asia, europe, america. everywhere in between. i can have bagels for breakfast, curry for lunch, and ramen for dinner without even leaving the city limits. music and art and philosophy and technology that originated thousands of miles and years apart from eachother have come together and interwoven into something greater than the sum of its parts. its hard not fall into despair when thinking about the horrors but god. god the wonders.
