Hey guys.

If any of y'all are near Chicago Illinois, a feral pigeon may need help.

This sad mess (described as "fell in oil and thin, but otherwise ok. Alert and in great appetite.") was brought to the practice where @vet-and-wild works.

They reached out to us to find a rescue, foster, or transport for them.

Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue is out that way and their contact has been shared with the pigeon's rescuer, but if we can't get hold of them or they are full, the oil slick feral will need either:

A foster in the area who can keep them at least until they are safe to ship,

Or a chain of people who can help transport them.

Please PM me for details and to be put in contact with the person currently looking after the bird or help share the need around.

By the way, new folks, we have a Discord Server for any one even remotely interested in any aspect of pigeon rescue. (And a contact list for pigeon friends who aren't on discord.)

We are working to develop a network of fosters, transports, and coordinators in every state to keep these domestic birds from clogging up wildlife rehab centers so they can focus their time, space, and resources on getting native wildlife back to the wild.

If you have any interest in that endeavor, you can also pm me with what you would like to do, the area you prefer to work in, and the contact information you are comfortable with sharing.

Pigeons are gentle, goofy little critters that deserve the kind of love we humans used to offer them when we domesticated them thousands of years ago.

Sincerely have no idea why people get pet macaws and other parrots that can't thrive in captivity unless you dedicate your entire existence to bird care when chickens come in miniature size and not only are cheap to feed, friendly, lay nutritious eggs, dispose of kitchen scraps, and poop out valuable plant fertilizer, but also if you forget the garbage and are face to face with a maggot swarm they will happily devour the evidence of your incompetence.

Even as someone with small parrots (all re-homes/surrenders, I avoid purchasing birds from breeders when I can), and pet chickens, I wholeheartedly agree with this. Plus, sharing meals with my chickens is actually less messy and worrisome than when my parrots yeet themselves into my bowl.

100% I have lived my whole entire life with parrots, rescue parrots, and love parrots, and chickens are WAY better pets if you have the ability to keep them!!* There is no comparison, domestication is amazing *big disclaimer because this is the internet: with any animal please research and make sure you can meet their needs, also fair warning, vet bills for any “exotic” pet are usually higher than with a cat or dog and when you get extremely attached to your chickens it’s A Problem. That said it is just as expensive if not more so for parrots holy hell

Hello! I’m Ash. I’m an illustrator and designer living in Massachusetts. I run my own online shop Flea Circus Designs where I sell my original designs as pins, stickers, plushies, & more!

Last year I launched a campaign here for a lil plush pigeon friend, Poe Egglesworth! It reached way over my initial goal with the support of 600 backers and I’ve been able to make tons of new Poe goodies and even started a monthly pin club. Now that I’ve sold out of the bigger plushies it’s time to bring out a new Poe and restock the first two!

We’ll need a lot of support to be able to put in an order with my manufacturer, so just like last time I’m offering a lot of stretch goal items that will be added on to every pledge for free! Things like stickers, patches, buttons, etc. all will be included as freebies with each package but only if we reach the stretch goals, so if you like the project please help spread the word!

A city where necromancy is legal and actually a part of every day society. So long as you follow a specific set of laws to make it seem a bit more ethical, you’re allowed to use it to do anything from helping you in a fight, to helping you run your business. In fact, there are entire shops or restaurants where the staff are undead. Laws to handle the undead could be things like:

• The corpses used cannot have flesh on them for sanitary reasons, especially in the case of businesses. Those who raise undead who are more than just bone will face a fine dependent on their situation.

• Similar to how people can donate their bodies to science, or donate their organs to those in need, people can choose to donate their bodies to necromancers before their death.

• If it is unknown if a person wished for their body to be donated after death, and they have been dead for 150+ years, you’re allowed to raise them. If next of kin is still alive, you must get permission from them first.

• You must take care of the undead in your charge. Keep them clean and unbroken. If one of them starts to get too much wear and tear, you are required by law to respectfully lay them back down to rest. Failure to do this will get you a hefty fine.

I mean, take it a step further, if you aren’t sure if someone would want their body used after their death, call them up and ask them. It’s less taxing to cast a Commune with Dead spell than to raise an active skeleton, and this way you know for sure whether they mind, so there’s no ethical ambiguity.

Most local dead consider the idea of skeletal labor completely normal, so they tell the necromancer that they waive all rights to the corpse for public work purposes as a formality and then go back to their afterlife.

For private employ however it’s customary to pay a small stipend to either a living relative or a charity of the ghost’s choice in exchange for their corpse’s labor.

Due to the prevalence of public works done by skeletons, Necromancers are seen in much the same light as government functionaries. They’re stereotyped as mild mannered people who do an important service but are also really boring at parties.

A silly bit proposed to me by Mickel over VC, and while not the most in-character thing I’ve ever worked on, but still a very fun bit to make. Especially fun to have the freedom to give characters experssions they normally wouldn’t make. Dialogue was mostly done by Mick and Cas.
