X-Girl's Completion Journey

So, I'm reading (and partially re-reading) basically the entirety of the main X-Men continuity in Earth-616. I can't promise I'll get to literally everything, but I'm going based off of this guide which gets me MOST of it. I may or may not weave in extra titles down the line, we'll see how spicy I'm feeling. The guide I linked omits most mutant solo books, as well as most of the original Excalibur run sans a few key issues, for example. But for all intents and purposes, it is the framework for this marathon.

I started with Giant-Sized X-Men #1 and have been progressing slowly from that point since the start of 2025. I may go back and do the Silver Age at some point just for completion's sake.

Oof I haven't made a real post on here in a few weeks. Reading has been slow lately but it is happening!! I just don't post when I don't have anything to say.

Okay not a real post yet, but I have an X-Men experience to share, at least? For the last few months, I have convinced five friends and one girlfriend, all of whom don't really read comics, to do a comic book club with me. It's been really fun so far! Every week to 2 weeks (depending on the length of the trade paperback they choose) they vote on the next book they'd like to read. So far they've been very street-level oriented with picks like Spider-Man, Nightwing, Daredevil, Batman, but much to my surprise a few weeks ago, they picked HoXPoX! And man. Discussing that book with a bunch of baby comic readers is SO MUCH FUN. It's so funny how that book is simultaneously a great place to start X-Men and also completely throwing new readers to the sharks.

Lots of comments on the Hickmanisms. A long conversation on the worldbuilding and history presented in the book. And me frantically explaining to first-time readers why the Moira retcon is a big deal, who guys like Mr. Sinister and Exodus are, Krakoa's wild history, Mystique being Nightcrawler's mother, ect ect. SO much I didn't have time to explain and honestly most of it was junk information anyway. But I just realized that if we continue Dawn of X, at some point I'll be forced to explain Betsy/Kwannon at gunpoint... aaaaaaaaaaagghhh

Either way I'm just sort of surprised it went over as well as it did? I expected them to hate it (one of them kind of did I think) but overall it was a relative hit. I hope I get to show them more X-Men in the future, it would be a lot of fun.

I should make them read Onslaught next.

Awhile back I posted about Juggernaut being a Dazzler superfan and I'm now starting to think that hulking, muscular Marvel villains just really like Dazzler in general

like wdym she showed up to serve cunt and defeat the beyonder (by giving him depression)

what can i say? im a sucker for characters who use a sarcastic rough exterior to deflect from their trauma

and also characters who dress like they lost a fight with an arcade carpet circa 1985. its a shame they got rid of her fashion sense in later comics

This was so funny to me that I burst out laughing I LOVE THIS. like this is traumatic on so many levels and might be the most fucked up thing an X-Men character has ever accidentally done. And the SMILE behind his body I can't breathe, his poor mother

Imagine being a kid in 1988 buying New Mutants and Doug is your favorite guy. Then there's the one-two punch of Doug's death plus this Warlock issue, that would be CRAZY

Also side-note omg Sunspot as the voice of reason and not punching everything constantly?? Claremont Roberto could never. Maybe Fallen Angels had a positive effect on X-Men canon after all

Ok sure I feel a little bad for Empath getting manipulated by Emma constantly but like?? Empath is a way bigger monster than she is. All this guy does is harass women I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to feel here. Oh everyone hates you Manuel? Like, boo fucking hoo? What do you expect? You have not earned your 'sad boy' card, like, at all.

We don't need to redeem every PoS manipulator. Like, imagine the psychological torture of having a guy like this on your team. He has the power to change emotion and you KNOW that he'll use it whenever he wants, on whomever, for any reason. Having your feelings toyed with is shitty, but the constant fear and mistrust of your OWN emotions whenever he's around, always second-guessing yourself, would drive you fucking insane. He's so icky yeuch
