We now have the confirmation of how Pentious was feeling right before Adam's blast hit him.
And seeing these expressions breaks my heart.
He's done being afraid. People he loves are in danger, and he's not going to witness another precious life lost in front of his eyes.
This time it'll be different. This time he'll do the right thing.
So our snake goes in his zeppelin, he charges the Death Ray, and goes right in front of Adam.
Pentious knows he won't make it alive, but that's alright with him: he'll go down protecting those he loves. For once he's doing something noble.
So he smiles, knowing that, with his death, his friends will be alright.
But... it was all for nothing.
The Death Ray didn't charge in time.
Adam has noticed Pentious, and he's dealing with him right away.
Time's up for the snake, and he failed to save his friends.
His sacrifice was worthless.
He was granted the chance to do the right thing for once and repent for the mistake he committed in life, and he squandered it.
His friends are still in danger, and even by conquering his fear, he couldn't do anything about it.
He thought he changed, and yet there he is, dying a second time, not able to save anyone.
Once again, like a miserable failure that couldn't do one thing right.
If only he knew, in that moment, how wrong he was. How his courage and heart meant everything to everyone, in the grand scheme of things...
