I appreciate the sentiment but I don't get all those "we made it to the longest night of the year! the light will start returning soon! it's all uphill from here & we're halfway there!" posts because like. Oct-Dec is the easier half of Winter. Jan-Apr is way harder. there's no big holidays or decorations, everyone is kind of over the whole Cozy Hygge Sweaters & Cocoa vibe so they're just tired & restless instead, and the whole thing is so drawn out & uneventful that it feels like it lasts 10x longer

I'm in the process, for the past year, with re-evaluating my relationship with the internet, and in particular my smartphone. I've done a lot of experimentation to see what works for me etc. And my latest decision has been to delete tumblr off my phone and relegate it to desktop only.

So I'm not fully leaving tumblr, i've been here since 2011, but I realized I'm not happy with my relationship to this site, as my primary source of social media. It has been a big influence over my life because of that and I want to minimize it. Plus I don't think I've ever taken a prolonged break from it and I think this will really help do that.

I'll reassess how I use tumblr, who I'm following, etc eventually. But I think I need more space from it for the time being.

Hey, I'm not into "health at any size" because some people can never be healthy in the way that quantifies it, but I am into "respect at any size" not least because I love many people who are not thin or healthy, and I like it when they aren't stigmatized by our culture.

And some of them are on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro. Including me. So I would ask that if you want to talk about our cultural obsession with thinness, you keep the names of medication that is also used to control diabetes and other health issues out of your goddamn mouth.

You don't know why anyone uses any medication. It's hard enough to jam a needle in your thigh once a week without accusations of vanity and disordered eating along with it. I have loved ones whose eating disorders are affected by their lifesaving medication. You aren't helping by accusing them of disordered eating as if it's something they do for funsies.

By all means let's keep talking about how fucked up our attitudes towards food are. Let's not pretend including diabetes medication in that conversation is at all helpful.

My very first job was at Taco Bell, and most of us working there were horrible young adults with horrible young adult problems, but one of my coworkers was a woman in (I think) her 50s.

And us horrid young adults would ask her why she still worked at Taco Bell, because it was starter job and who would want to stay there forever? Her response?

“I make enough money to make sure I always have roses in my bedroom.”

This answer changed me as a person. It changed the way I thought about what makes someone successful, and made me step back and realize that I was so caught up in what I thought success and happiness should mean that I didn’t know what I wanted them to mean.

Which is to say that sometimes ambition is making enough money to keep fresh roses in your bedroom, and you should be able to do that working at Taco Bell.

personally? i enjoy being a fan of characters who have done Wrong. i like when a character is not a perfect victim, has hurt people, has transgressed, has done bad things. sometimes its nice to feel the sting yknow? and to recognize that a character is not a flawless perfect victim, but is deserving of understanding and compassion anyway. a lot of people in fandom refuse to let go of moral absolutism and its... rough.
