Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.

i think it is fascinating that the first time we see mulder have sex (in 3) and the first time we see scully have sex (in never again), both of them approach it fundamentally as an act of self-harm.

mulder, wracked with the grief of losing his partner, trying to save this woman he just met as an act of penance, while scully's necklace dangles around his neck.

scully, processing that she does not have much longer to live, feeling terrified and frustrated, once again trying to force herself into doing what society expects of her, as if that will bring the happiness she has been denied.

i just think it's neat.

I'm in a little local cafe and the women behind the counter started griping to each other, "Oh Christ, Stephen's back again," "It's him, is it? I thought he'd stopped coming," "It's definitely him, look, it's bloody Stephen on a Thursday morning," "Do you want me to get rid of him or are you going to do it?" and so I was peering outside, trying to spot this nightmare customer, this pestilence of a person, this pox upon the cafe trade, and then one of the women from behind the counter ran outside, clapping two trays together loudly and yelling "GET OUT OF IT, STEPHEN!" and it turns out that Stephen is an absolutely gigantic fuck-off seagull who hangs around outside, menacing people for crumbs

TXF Summer Fic Exchange

In the great tradition of @gaycrouton (my favorite exchange organizer), I'm putting together a X Files Summer Exchange.

Details: Sign Up is between now and July 10th if you want to receive a fic gift. Add your details to the sign up sheet pick your summer themed prompt (there is a tab with some prompt suggestions, but feel free to write your own) and add any important notes to help your author (e.g 'no major character deaths', 'I like to see Mulder cry'... normal stuff). It works like Secret Santa, where once the sign up is closed you will receive a private message with your recipient and fic prompt.

July 11th I will individually send out the details for the exchange recipient and more detailed instructions.

Publish Date: August 9th

Length: No restrictions, but try to get to at least 600 words if it's a gift for someone.

Do you want to participate but don't want the pressure of a due date or writing a fic for someone else? No worries!

I think what continues to draw people to the x files all these decades later is that Mulder and Scully are coworkers. like. all the insane shit they do for each other, and the whole time they're just. colleagues. sure, they're best friends, but we hardly ever get to see them hanging out together outside of work. they drop the craziest flowery monologues that could easily be mistaken for love confessions. but! they're coworkers. so they're like ok, see you monday at the office. they go to hell and back to rescue each other, both of them taking turns being Orpheus and Eurydice. but they're coworkers. they're the most important person in each other's life. they just work together. it's frustrating. it's beautiful. no one's ever done it like them. possibly because it's the wrong way to do it. compels me though
