No one knew that the Wind Hashira, loud, angry, impossible to please Sanemi Shinazugawa had a soft spot. And that soft spot? Was you.
You, the newest Hashira with a temper the complete opposite of his. You were everything he pretended not to want and everything he couldn't stay away from.
The others never noticed how his eyes lingered a little longer when you walked into the room. Or how his voice lowered when he spoke to you, barely above a whisper. They didn't see the way your pinky fingers would brush his when no one was looking. Or how you'd sneak off during missions and somehow always return just a little too breathless, lips a little too red.
You were both warriors. Hashira. But behind closed doors? You were his.
It was supposed to be a quiet moment.
Your fingers were laced behind Sanemi's neck, your forehead pressed against his, both of you standing just outside the compound wall where no one would see. He kissed you slow this time, like he wasn't in a rush. Like maybe, just maybe, you'd have time for once.
His hands rested on your waist, calloused palms pressing gently into your sides like they didn't belong to the same man who fought demons like he was born for it. His breath was warm against your lips when he pulled away just enough to look you in the eyes.
"You know this is stupid," he muttered. "We shouldn't be sneaking, I'm sure the others won't care."
You gave him a small giggle. "Nemi , I promise we'll tell them, now shut up and kiss me again."
He didn't deny you. Just tilted his head and kissed you again, softer this time, slower.
You both jerked back, startled.
His hand flew to the hilt of his sword as your crow dropped from the sky, wings beating hard, voice sharp and urgent.
"URGENT! URGENT! ALL TO OYATAKA-SAMA'S ESTATE IMMEDIATELY!"
Your blood turned to ice.
Sanemi was already moving. You didn't speak. You didn't even breathe. You turned on your heel and ran faster than you ever had.
He followed close behind, the wind screaming around you both. Trees blurred past as you shot through the forest like twin streaks of lightning. You didn't look back. You didn't have to. You could feel him. Always just behind you.
The mansion lights were visible now through the trees.
The sound cracked across the air like thunder. A heatwave rolled over you like a tidal wave. You stumbled, the force pushing your body backwards, and then
Your knees slammed into the ground, breath knocked from your lungs.
You looked up just in time to see the flames erupt into the night sky. Wood. Stone. Fire. Smoke.
" It's Gone." You thought.
You couldn't speak. Couldn't breathe.
Oyakata-sama's house the place where you'd had tea. Where his soft voice had once echoed like a lullaby was now burning rubble.
Your mouth opened, but nothing came out. Your blade hung loosely in your hand. Your entire body felt numb.
Behind you, Sanemi came to a halt.
You didn't even have to look at him to feel the stillness in his chest.
Then his hand gripped your shoulder tight, grounding. He pulled you up in one smooth, urgent motion.
"We have to go," he said. His voice wasn't angry. It wasn't calm either. Just sharp. Controlled. Focused.
You nodded, but your legs were shaking as you started to run again.
The courtyard was broken open when you reached it. The front wall had been completely destroyed. Smoke coiled around your ankles like it was trying to pull you under.
His voice seemed to echo when he said it.
The hairs on the back of your neck stood up.
Sanemi moved in front of you, instinctively, shielding you without a thought.
Your hand tightened on your sword.
This wasn't just a mission anymore.
This was the moment the war truly began.
A slight pause before everyone Lunged toward Muzan.
The sound cut through the sky like fate being strummed into motion.
Just one low, haunting note and the world shifted.
Your feet hit the earth one last time before it was gone. The ground beneath you opened, a cozy warm light leaking from where the ground should be. Suddenly you weren't sprinting toward Muzan anymore.
"SANEMI!" You screamed, eyes wide in disbelief, voice already echoing before you fully enter the unknown .
"Y/N!" Sanemi's voice cut through the chaos, raw and panicked a tone that never passed his lips until now.
Your hands reached for each other, desperate, fingertips brushing just barely.
But you were falling too fast, the castle pulling you two deeper and deeper into its twisted dimensions.
Sanemi'sĀ silver hair floated around his face, violet eyes locked on you. "I promise to find you baby." He said desperation in his voice.
Sanemi's worst fear wasn't dying.
And right now, that fear was clawing at his throat like it had teeth.
He hated this. Hated that he let you in. Hated that you mattered this much. Because from the second he met you in the Corps, some part of him knew this was going to hurt one day. You were brave, reckless, strong. Everything he admired. Everything he couldn't protect.
The thought made his stomach twist.
"No," he whispered. Then louder: "No. I have to find her."
