You were the ‘protector’ of Mondstadt. No one knew about it, but there were many speculations of someone called ‘The Dark Knight’. You didn’t know of him, and you were pretty sure it wasn’t you.

You were lurking in the shadows once again, watching over Mondstadt as always. It has changed over the years, locations and people. But one thing never grew old, and that was your love to protect and ensure the safety of the lovely lives below. Out of the corner of your eye, you spotted a dark figure moving under the lamplight. Hurriedly, you followed close behind, making sure to stay quiet. Your footsteps barely made a sound as you leapt across rooftops, inly catching small glimpses of the Knight before he was off again.

This happened for weeks, months even. You could tell the Dark Knight had picked up on your presence. It all snapped one night though, when you let yourself be seen accidentally.

You stumbled back as the unknown Knight pounced, holding his claymore tightly. “Who are you?” He demanded. “Explain why you’ve been following me.”

“Who am I?” You pondered. You haven’t been asked that question in centuries. “I’m Y/N. I’ve been protecting Mondstadt for as long as I can remember. Now, who are you?” You saw the man hesitate.

“Diluc. Diluc Ragnvindr. I guess you could call me ‘Dark Knight’. I also protect Mondstadt.” He let down his claymore, stepping back. You stood up, brushing off your clothes.

“Ah, it’s nice to know you’re helping Mondstadt, Diluc.” You smiled slowly, and you saw Diluc look taken aback.

“Same..” He said back, sheathing his sword. “Well. I’ll be off.” He looked over his shoulder. “And don’t follow me.”

Scoffing, you headed in a different direction, making sure Mondstadt was safe every time.

Each night you saw Diluc, he always reminded you to not follow him. You grew curious one day, and followed. While you were almost completely sure he wasn’t up to anything suspicious, you wanted to double check. Your footsteps were silent, stalking within the shadows, following the odd man. He was just wandering around, checking every noise. It was normal enough, and you saw no problem in it. It was what you do anyways.

“I told you not to follow me.” Diluc’s voice started you out of your thoughts, deeper than usual. He was standing over you, but his claymore was not out.

“I just happened to be going in the same direction.” You dismissed. “I’ll go the opposite way this time, alright?” Your voice was a bit snappy, but you were nervous around the man for some reason. You could feel Diluc’s gaze on your back as you stalked away.

The routine of dodging Diluc continued for weeks again. You wanted to have a normal conversation with him, but no opportunity showed itself. You had found out where he worked simply by word of the town, but you weren’t sure if you were prepared to face him in the public eye.

Eventually you had found the courage to, stepping into The Angels Share. Diluc was behind the bar, and he looked up, a faint shade of red covering his face.

“Hello. What can I get you?” He asked, setting down the glass he was cleaning. You took a seat at the counter.

“Hmm, some Dandelion Wine would be good. Maybe even a conversation after your work is done.” You smiled slyly, noticing the blush grow on his face.

“Dandelion Wine coming up.” He started to get to work. He slid the cup to you, mumbling a, “Meet me on the roof after just after the moon rises.”

“He could’ve said midnight.” You grumbled, swinging your legs. It was a little while longer before you heard Diluc climb up.

“Hello. What did you want to talk about?” He sat embarrassingly far away.

“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to patrol Mondstadt together. Two is better than one.” You smiled, leaving the distance.

Somehow, Diluc agreed, and now you patrolled the streets with the tall man. Most of the conversations were awkward, but you persisted. Soon enough, he lightened up, including himself more into the one sided conversations. Before you knew it, Diluc had become a good friend of yours.

“Looks like a full moon!” You said cheerfully, strolling beside him. Diluc looked up and hummed softly. “You want to ask me something, don’t you?” Diluc looked a little startled.

“Well, yeah. I do.” Diluc shuffled his feet, coming to a stop. You sat down on a nearby crate. “I was wondering.. I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime.” You knew what he meant, but part of you wanted to tease. As you met his eyes, they shone with hope, and raw emotion.

“Of course I would.” You smiled softly, standing up and kissing his cheek.

“You WHAT?” You shrieked at Zhongli, fury clear in your eyes.

“I gave away my gnosis.” He replied, confused. You rubbed your temple, sighing loudly.

“I know THAT. But, why?” You were so very confused, at what La Signora could’ve possibly offered in return to a priceless gnosis.

“I’m afraid I cannot disclose that information. I do promise you, it was worth it.” Zhongli mumbled softly, reaching out to pull you into a hug. You shied away, missing the flash of hurt crossing your boyfriend’s face briefly. He let his arm dangle at his side awkwardly. You stared at him ridiculously. He must’ve lost his mind. “Please forgive me, love.”

You weren’t sure if you could just yet. As an adepti, it was your job to protect Liyue Harbor. And Zhongli, giving away his gnosis could've just put the Harbor in danger. You exhaled slowly, trying your best to not let anger get the best of you.

“Rex, I hope you know what could happen now that your gnosis is gone. I hope you can face those consequences.” And with that, you left the Funeral Parlor, wandering the streets of Liyue aimlessly. You knew Zhongli wouldn’t come after you. And he didn’t. Part of you was hurt, and part of you expected it.

A few hours passed before you decided to return home, and you were met with the sight of Zhongli sipping his tea. You brushed past, going into the bedroom to change. Faintly, you could hear Zhongli’s clothes rustling.

“Love.” You were startled, finishing pulling on your shirt. Zhongli continued to speak. “I am thankful for your concern. But, in the archon battle, I fought without a gnosis. I can assure you Liyue will be safe, with or without ‘Rex Lapis’.” You sighed, sitting down on the bed.

“I do remember that.” You mumbled. “I’m also worried about you, Rex. It can get physically draining.” Zhongli sat down beside you, holding your hand gently.

“Love, I assure you, I will take care of myself. And besides, I have you.” Zhongli lifted your hand to kiss it, smiling gently. Softly, you placed your lips in his, as a way of forgiveness and love.

You forgave him, eventually. There wasn’t much you could do anyways. Zhongli never explained his reasoning, but you grew used to it, learning to protect and tell white lies. It was all worth it, according to Rex Lapis.

You loved Kaeya, you really did. But, at the same time, he annoyed you. His flirty nature made you jealous, and he didn’t understand.

“Why can’t you just listen to me?” You cried, exasperated. Kaeya was standing in front of you, his arms crossed.

“Because I don’t understand! You want me to change my whole personality? Just because you’re insecure?” He snapped, glaring. Your shoulders trembled.

“That’s… That’s not what I meant..” You whispered. Was what he said true? Were you really that insecure? “Never mind. Sorry for interrupting your work.” You left quietly, ignoring everyone’s gaze.

The next few days, you avoided Kaeya like the plague. Each time you saw him, you skittered around, making drastic detours and different paths.

Meanwhile, Kaeya was growing lonely and uncertain. He missed your presence, and each time he turned to tell you something, he was reminded of how he spoke to you.

The lights turned on in Mondstat, and Kaeya was still wandering around. Usually by now, he would be at home with you, resting or cooking something. He missed it, you haven’t returned home in a little under a week. Kaeya was lost in his thoughts, and he didn’t realize he was headed back to the office until he was there.

He sighed, turning around and heading home. To his surprise, you were home today, sitting on the couch. You turned your gaze away from the door though, going back to going through some papers.

Kaeya sat down next to you, sighing. You looked at him out of the corner of your eye, clenching your jaw gently. “What do you want?”

“I.. I’m sorry.” Kaeya finally spoke after a long silence. You frowned. “I realize how wrong it was to push you away like that, and call you insecure. It was a valid reason, and I’ll try to stop.” Kaeya inhaled shakily. “I understand if you want to leave-”

You stopped him there, tackling him in a bear hug. Kaeya grunted, hugging back tentatively. You almost started crying, and he chuckled softly.

“All I wanted was for you to listen…” You mumbled softly, tightening your arms around him. Kaeya nodded slowly, kissing the side of your head.

You saw a slight change, Kaeya tried his hardest to stop flirting with passerby’s, and he listened to you a little more. As Kaeya changed, you noticed yourself changing too. You weren’t as strict with him, and you also found the relationship being happier and even healthier.

Perhaps an argument was all you needed to push your relationship a little over the edge for the better.
