Shaykh ibn ‘Uthaymīn (رحمه الله) said:
"Whoever notices he is withdrawn from the acts of worship he used to perform, he should be plentiful in seeking for forgiveness."
[Tafsīr Sūrah Al-Mā'idah (1/483), Translated By Rubs Editorial]

“رب اغفر لي”
— rabbighfir li.
o my Lord! forgive me.
Allah reprimands (tests) His believing slave whom He loves, though he is dear to Him, for the smallest mistakes and slip-ups, in order to keep him alert and careful.
As for the person who fell from His eye and meant nothing to Him, He allows him to sin freely. In fact, every time he commits a sin, He grants him another blessing.
The deluded persons thinks that is because of his worth with Allah, oblivious that this is the epitome of disgrace, and that He wishes for Him the fiercest torment, and the endless punishment.
Ibn al- Qayyim | Zad al-Ma’ad, 3/506]
