A victim literally escaped Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment naked with a hole drilled in his head and unable to speak but police let Dahmer take him back to his apartment like everything was ok!

And I guess he doesn’t count as a serial killer but Eric Harris had already been making threats and harrassing students to an extreme degree before Columbine- police literally had a search warrant but they just never acted on it. If they had, they would have found the guns and pipe bombs and the shooting could have been easily prevented. They even tried to cover this up afterwards.

Serial killers and mass murders are usually not that smart, police have just historically refused to do their actual jobs.

Friendly reminder that they are trying to make abortion illegal because they want you to get pregnant at 16. They want you to be a parent at 16. They want more children to be born of underprivileged, marginalized groups. Children who will grow up to receive poor education, who will then not be able to go to college and crawl over the poverty line. They want kids who’ll grow up and end in prison (free labor) or take the worst paid jobs (anything no matter the condition is better than starving right?) in order to just put something on the table. People that can be kept ignorant, that will resent whatever those in power will tell them to resent, be it the immigrant, the disabled, the queer etc. 

They will not only make it harder if not impossible to have an abortion. They will also ban schools from teaching sex ed (not that they are doing a good job right now) unless it is sex ed based on abstinence. 

And if you think this is only America, think again. There are places here in Italy where you can’t get an abortion because doctors can “object” and refuse to carry out abortions in public hospitals. There’s a region in Italy where there is no OB in the public system who will perform an abortion. You have to go to a different region or pay privately.

Think about Poland.

A right isn’t something you automatically get to keep forever just because of a court ruling or a law. Laws can be changed, precedents overturned. We have all grown complacent, we all stopped fighting. We all in some small part opposed some right be extended to a different subcategory of people because we thought, due perhaps to inherent bias, that it eroded ours.

We are complicit every time we do not exercise our right to vote because “all the candidates suck”. It’s an excuse, and boy are we so full of excuses. 

What happened in Poland, what’s possibly going to happen in the USA, what’s been subtly, insidiously happening in Italy for decades can happen in your country too.

They (cops) are not only further protected, but now are allowed to not tell you when you have that right. Which honestly can just be confusing for anyone.

It’s fucked up and definitely targets marginalized individuals, in addition to protecting cops. Double lose.

If at any point you do (like to ask for the bathroom, a drink, etc) immediately repeat that you are invoking your right to silence. They will try to get you to talk. They’re allowed to try to get you to break your silence, and they will do so. They’ll make you wait for the lawyer.

Every cop show ever has taught you that getting a lawyer looks guilty, and I’m telling you that’s propaganda. Get the fucking lawyer. Even if they just want a statement out of you, even if you called them. Get the lawyer. Shut up.

Look at you! You should be so proud of you. Here you are, continuing on after everything you’ve been through. Do you even realize how incredible that is? How amazing it is when you consider every single time you didn’t think you were going to make it… You made it. You pulled through. 

Have you taken a minute to appreciate yourself for every single time you’ve pulled yourself up off the floor, got yourself through the breakdowns, and pushed yourself forward despite everything? 

You deserve to be proud of you. You should appreciate you. You are amazing, valuable and wonderful. Your trauma does not define you, and though it has caused obstacles in your life that I can’t even begin to describe, you are overcoming them. Sure, sometimes you trip over them. Sometimes you might even fall down or go backwards. We all do. But you have gotten back up every single time. 

Maybe it’s hard to see in the moment. Things are so hard, I know. And you don’t deserve them to be so hard. But when you feel like giving up, or you feel like you’re a failure, please try and look back at every time you thought you couldn’t survive, and how you survived anyways. 

You are so incredible, and I think it’s time you start seeing and acknowledging that.
