I see all the “the screaming scene happens after the rescue/mouse scene” and I propose:

The timing is irrelevant because it’s not actually Jaskier in the rescue scene but someone pretending to be him while Jaskier is elsewhere being tortured.

Ok but it could (kinda) be both, in that the torturers are “letting” (making) Jaskier watch it happen, having him witness the hope of rescue fade away as Geralt walks away with a threat wearing Jaskier’s face

so @geraskierbigbang was a thing. And by thing I mean it was a really fucking fun thing that I really had an amazing time doing.

Even more amazing? @hekatosmistart did just an incredible job and I’m really blown away and impressed and shit. The inclusion of a Nature Center actually came from me volunteering at one with one of my very best friends and while that’s not an idea in the fic, there’s just a feel to the art that is really reminiscent of actually being there with my friend which is just very lovely to me. But no, go look at it, it’s awesome. ART!

also @hintofelation99 was inexplicably willing to beta read my shit show so like, if you like Batman Comics and/or the BatFam in general, she’s your gal

summary: Two years after a car wreck cost him all of his memories, Julian had settled into his new-not-new life and was content enough. A boyfriend of five years, his doctor, and his job at the Blue Mountain Nature Center -a lovely little place just outside of the city and not far from the Witcher's Keep- made for a nice life. Or at least a more or less decent one. Sure he felt like things were missing but, as Valdo and Dr. S said, of course he felt like that, he had amnesia. A little excitement every now and again helped. Like the new visitor at the Center. And this other new visitor. This one too. A little excitement every now and again helped. And so did getting to pretend that he was important enough for it to be purposeful when these Witchers and Witches seemed to seek him out to chat.

Meanwhile, in the nearly three years since Jaskier's kidnapping and presumed murder, the Kaer Morhen family had had to accept that the musician's fate would be an ever painful mystery they couldn't get answers to. And a question about taking care of Lil' Bleater didn't seem like the type of thing that would change that.
