I'm against the byler cheating trope happening on canon (in fics write what you want I couldn't care less) not in a "El doesn't deserve that" way but in a "Will doesn't deserve that" way.

It’s so funny that Mike wore something goofy one time when he was completely out of character and then was continuously mischaracterized as having stupid/clown like fits.

Like the amount of times this summer I heard people with their noses high literally acting like people who put Mike in a leather jacket or BLACK JEANS (he canonically does both) were the stupid ones who were trying to ‘coolify’ Mike or some shit still baffles me to this day. We all just let that slide wayyyy too easy. The second Mike got back in character he put back on his darker, more grungy, clothes. We all saw that happen on screen and allowed Mike to be labeled as having lame, loser, goofy style. Ain’t nothing wrong with liking that I fully support it, but it’s literally just not true. Mike dressed ten times cooler than I ever will, but more so, he has always just worn pretty basic/darker pieces.

We let alot of things slide out of fear, like so many people ganged up on that idea and I still don’t know why.

Anyways just me having thoughts

Future Mike and Will have been looking for a house, but they haven’t found “the one”. There’s always an issue—either the location is like on the biggest hill in San Francisco or there’s not enough space for Will to have his art studio. They’re literally about to give up and resign themselves to their apartment forever, when they’re driving back from dinner one night and notice a “For Sale” sign outside this pale yellow house, and Mike impulsively pulls over. They obviously can’t go inside, but best believe they’ve got their faces pressed to the glass.

Will points out that it will need some work.

Mike’s all like, “We could do it.” And then after Will’s look, “We rebuilt Castle Byers!”

“That’s a little different.”

But Mike’s not having it, and drags Will along to the side of the house to take a look at the backyard. The fence is way too high, so there’s this mini debate on what to do that’s settled by Mike grabbing Will by the waist and hoisting him up.

Mike’s pointedly ignoring his protests, but then Will goes quiet for a long beat.

“Is something wrong? Because I know it needs some work, but the sign said there were enough rooms, and the price isn’t too bad, and there’s already a ramp for Max, and I dunno. I just had a really good feeling about it.”

It was hard for Will to make it out, but amongst the overgrown weeds and abandoned patio furniture, he sees it—a swing set.

His voice goes soft. “Yeah. Yeah, me too.”

#this was really sweet #until it reminded me of the up montage #and now l’m sitting here with a fading grin like an idiot #why am i like this

high school is such a small part of your life. there’s so much more outside of it. whatever seems important now, you won’t even remember in five years. being a teenager is so hard, but there’s so much more than what you experience as a teenager. they aren’t the “best years of your life”. those are yet to come. you have a future away from whatever hardship you’re experiencing currently.

update: i left highschool last year, and i was so right. keep holding on.
