I was once talking to my 75 year old Chinese dad in passing about a trans friend of mine not getting along with her family and he asked why and I said err, because she's trans, dad.
He asked: "Oh, was she the only son or something before *waves hand*?" and I was like, warily, no she has two brothers. And he responded with a great deal of confusion: "Then what's their problem?!?!"
Later on: "Anyway, even if she WAS the only son, that's not her problem, that's THEIR problem. They should have had more sons if they were going to be bothered about it."
Knowing what I know about chinese culture there’s something so beautifully simple about his logic of “no son to carry on family name/look after them in old age/all the other stuff? Skill issue! Should’ve had more sons! Should’ve kept the family unit strong yourself! Blaming your daughter for your own failure of family planning is W E A K!” and then he learns there are more sons and it completely breaks his train of logic because if yes to more sons then why issue?? You have two others and you’re mad you don’t have three?? Whack. Greedy.
I can already envision him as an ancient lord of a powerful house looking down his nose at the latest messenger bringing gossip from the house of his offspring’s friend and going “now they have a daughter to marry into another family for powerful alliances and two sons to take over her former duties and somehow they’re still complaining about their good fortune? They shall not survive the winter.” and then sipping his tea with all the grim satisfaction of someone about to watch an unnecessary soap opera of drama unfold from a safe distance or something

So I'm self-reblogging because I drew it, and that's my right.
Gargoyle character studies I had on my Patreon for a while now, featuring Brooklyn, Broadway, Lexington, and Angela! :)
These were largely a bid in trying to capture the likeness of the characters while translating them into my style. As seen with Angela's sheet: what I did was take the official character model sheet and trace it to get a feel of their base character shapes, then did a second pass over the trace to add the features I wanted to incorporate into my headcanon design.
The final iteration (the big colored ones) is entirely freehanded and drawn using my passes as reference. I like how they all came out! :>
I'll eventually do the same with other characters (Elisa, Demona, Goliath, and Hudson are next on my list), then do fullbody redesigns to act as refs for any future drawings and headcanons I make for Gargoyles.
But ye! Hope ya'll like the art! more to come soon :)

Also, I continue to BEG these creators to do a SMIDGE of research before they open their fucking mouths because the etymology/concept of "orchestra" actually dates back to Ancient Greece around the time that Homer was writing the Illiad and the Odyssey to the word ὀρχήστρα (orkhēstra). It literally refers to the semi circular space where theater and dance were performed. So no, maybe not musical groups specifically as we think of them today with string instruments, woodwinds, and percussion (that wasn't until about the 1600s CE), but just saying "it's not like the orchestra existed back then" when the idea literally dates back to the time period you're referencing and there also were musical productions of the time that just used different words is so fucking infuriating.
I'm just... So fucking mad. Everything Christopher Nolan and his team doing is so disrespectful to the original story. And that's the thing too. It's not like it's a book where it's like one or two people's ideas on a page and you can go "oh wow I don't agree with the way this person views the world or that idea at all" and then put the book down and move on with your life. It's taking probably hundreds if not over a thousand people to make this movie. And no one tried to stop any of this from happening??? How do you get to this point of ignorance with that many people on your team?

I’m well aware of the threat bears pose, don’t worry. But I grew up out here so I’m very familiar with how to deal with them. I had a compound bow with me, a rifle down on the table, plenty of stuff to throw, lots of stuff to make noise, and a kitchen full of knives. If he had gotten inside it wouldn’t have been a big deal.

Out of curiosity what type of bear is this?
It looks to be around the size of a black bear but the coat is totally different from the black bears I'm familiar with. I don't think there are any brown bear species that are that size so the appearance might be a regional difference.
I was gonna guess, Juvenille Brown Bear. Old enough to be away from mama, not old enough to be full size.
Ah, answered in comments. Black bear. I don’t see those much, so I dunno when it comes to coats.
