Bruce gets deathly hurt on a patrol with Damian after an argument with dick. Damian tries to call dick using Bruce's com and he doesn't answer neither does Jason, Steph, or Duke (probably sleeping) only Cass and Tim come and Bruce almost dies but makes it to the hospital and is in a medicated coma. Damian is furious and traumatized almost losing his father and blames dick. He declares that dick and Jason are no longer his brothers and if Bruce dies he'd spend his life trying to kill them.

Just a heads up, I don't think I'm gonna write steoh and Duke cause it'll make more sense this way and I don't think they won't be awake when an emergency needs them :]

Bruce and dick gets in an argument neither of them even remember what it was about, all they knew is that it ended with dick leaving and slamming the door close.

Then as you said, Bruce and Damian patrolled together and let's say they got ambushed and Bruce fell from a few floors. When Damian arrived, Bruce had already lost too much blood and yet, those lowly goons decided that this fight wasn't done and Damian was forced to fight them as he tries to call for backup. Dick hung up the second he heard it had anything to do with Bruce and Jason didn't respond all together. Damian never wished Jason didn't just finished having his weekly fight with Bruce more than ever and it took all his self control to not just deliver killing blows to the people he's fighting.

Fast forward to Damian finally being able to approach Bruce and Damian being borderline frantic as he called everyone he remembers. Tim and Cass finally responding with an affirmation and a short "it'll be okay, baby bird" From Cass.

He's forced to stay and staunch the bleeding from Bruce's body and cries in frustration when Bruce calls dick and Jason's name and apologizing for their argument. He knows Bruce is likely hallucinating and it was not a good sign. But God, it hurts.

Tim and Cass arrived and immediately went to work before carrying him to the Batmobile and rushing back to the cave. Alfred had been waiting when they arrived and Damian could only stand outside the medbay as Alfred tried to fix his dad.

When dick arrived 20 minutes later with a furrowed brow and asking what happened as he kneels in front of Damian, Damian had already marched forward and landed a punch with a sound that echoed through the cave. Tim and Cass immediately stood up, not knowing why Damian did that.

"You" Damian says, pointing a finger to dicks chest.

"You're a fucking disgrace, Grayson"

Just as dick opened his mouth, the sound of the motorcycle could be heard and Jason walked in not long after.

Damian could feel tears prickling his eyes but held back as he pointed towards the both of them.

"Father had called for you when he had been hurt. I had called for you to help me— AND YET WHY DID YOU NOT COME?" he screams. His voice breaking halfway and yet he couldn't find it in himself to care.

"Father had been bleeding out and yet you ignore my calls for back up just because you were mad at him" Silence.

"How dare you?“

"Dami—" Dick tries to reach out to him.

"NO—!"

"He was nearly dead when Tim and Cassandra arrived. And yet you had the audacity to hang up on me when it had anything to do with father—" He points at jason— "you didn't even answer"

"I was—"

"SHUT UP! "

"He was bleeding out and yet he still tried apologizing to the both of you— and yet there you are not wanting to do anything that involves him"

Cass and Tim looks at him sadly from the side but Damian knew he had to finish this.

"... You are not my brothers"

The silence was so loud you could hear a single pin drop. Damian straightens his shoulder and glares at them coldly. "If father dies— I promise I will hunt you down and not stop until you die"

Damian turned to the medbay before anyone could say anything.

Maybe Bruce survives and Damian finally breaks in Bruce's arms and Bruce saying that he can't make threats like that to his siblings no matter what and Jason and dick coming at different times the next day, both with guilty expressions and and apologizing for ignoring the backup call and for the argument etc etc. Then they live happily ever after ^^)

Hard of hearing Damian wayne

He will never admit it to anyone, so he never tells the batfam. Back in the league this was used against him, as punishments, they will take his hearing away. He always hated how small, how unsafe it felt. He will never allow himself to be put in that situation.

The batfam end up finding in one of 2 ways:

1.

During patrol, one of the following happens:

Damian gets cornered during , and assuming it's comes, one of the henchmen statch it up. Damian panicks and flings himself at the closest batsib, begging to take him home (patrol ended early that day, and a few (lot) of people were sent to Gotham hospital with atleats 3 broken bones.)

Or during patrol and... EMP pulse is send put which disables everyhting including his aids, he freaks out and runs to hide in the closest shadow he can find. Que the whole family frantically looking for him all over. Until, it's Tim that finds him, hands covering his ears, face buried into his knees, and face covered with tears.

He violently flinches when he touches him and starts screaming. Until he notices it's tim, then damian all but launches himself at him. Tim has never felt like an older brother before that moment, holding his baby brother who's so small! And crying! And clinging to him!

After:

Damian: *dager to tim* if u dare tell anyone

Tim: sigh I thought you were cute for a second there

2. With an attitude.

Bruce is being his strict self and everyone is standing around after patrol. Things get heated, emotions are high, and dick is about to step in when...

Dick: hey bruce-

DAMIAN: I DONT WANT TO LISTEN TO YOU ANYMORE ,

*snatch out hearing aids and throwing them at Bruce with all his strength befire turning away*

Bruce catching them: Damian you can't just throw your comms- huh? *looks at the "comms"

Tim walking closer: are those hearing aids?

Bruce: Damian? DAMIAN??

Extras:

Because he is hard of hearing/ deaf he has a problem with noise levels. He does not mean to scream but he just talks super loud so he can feel/hear the vibrations of his voice better. It doens't help that he sounds angry when he does it 😭

And everyone is mean about it 🤧

Talia occasionally visits to check on him and that they are working, after all it's league technology. See everyhtijg is fine, see if he needs anything. When they are alone, she signs as they speak.

He subconsciously signs some words here and there but always pretends to perform a hand gesture whenever he notices himself doing it. Before they found out atleast.

He uses it to cuss out tim secretly during arguments, dinners, galas especially, throwing a sign here and there (and those rich imbecile as well, if he'd suffer through this situation let him atelast have this)

Those that didn't know sign language, quickly rushed to learn it.

Because now that they know he just turns off his hearing when he doesn't want to listen to them and as siblings they still gotta argue with him damit. (But they also luv their bawby bwother uwu)

Also damian taught ASL by Talia because it's easily done one handed. Which is useful on missions.

For a while after his hearing difficulty discovery whenever Bruce is cross with him about patrol, he would use the "is it because im deaf", then puppy dog eyes and slump his shoulder, that's all it takes for a minimum of 5 batsiblings to jump out of the shadows and nag Bruce about being ablism and being nice to the baby. (While damian is smirk-ahem- crying into his sleeve... he's fully taking advantage)

After the discovery he now has "quite says" when he is over whelmed.

Jon and dami:

He does the "im so done imma toss my hearing aids at you cz i don't want to listen to ur nonsense" thing with Jon too.

Jon: stumbling to catch it: - whattt???

Damian: humph *pout

Jon: YOU CANT JUST TURN OFF YOUR EARS WHEN THINGS DONT GO YOUR WAY

The first thing Jon learned in sign language is "I'm taller". Damian flexes om him often by switching to full conversation in sign and doing so fast and Jon gets lost. He's a slow learner but he tries hard to learn sign to empress his best friend (eventually they have signing competition of who can do faster once Jon gets more proficient) ofc everything got to be a competition with these two.

Also Jon voice is annoying and high pitched to him, and hard to hear with his aids, so it took him a while to warm up to him. (That's why he was so opposed to their so called friendship at the start)

The overall vibes are perf. There’s no way that man doesn’t deeply appreciate the beauty in darker things. All bro talks about is how he died LMHJH. Also aesthetically obv Gotham and Batman related stuff already has gothic culture intertwined in it but Jason’s costuming specifically adds that layer of diy in such a simple but effective way.

Overall

He’s goth and punk asf both in my personal headcannon but also narratively and aesthetically, coming from a punk goth little freak who adores Jason Todd.

Stalker Tim Drake

It started as a jab at Tim for losing his touch in getting information on a criminal. Tim not being one to back down said that he could stalk any villain for months and not get notice. Damian who has the need to always prove Tim wrong, said "I bet you can't stalk a villain for six months without them finding out or us figuring out which villain you choose"

"Bet" Tim says already knowing who his victim is. It was the beginning of June, summer break and patrol had them all with too much time, Bruce just learned to ignore his children bets bc he knew he couldn't stop them, not even Alfred. Eventually and naturally everyone but Tim forgot about the bet, afterall it was done in the heat of the moment, they had lives and they just forgot about it after the 3rd alien invasion.

Queue them having a New Year's party with a few friends and family (the Al Ghuls are there for some reason, and Luthor too) and the start doing this awkward thing of telling people what you're grateful for or something, it comes to Tim's turn and he plugs a pen drive to the computer and is projecting a Power point presentation titled: I WON THE BET.

"I'm grateful for winning the bet Damian and I made in June." Tim smiles wide. And Damian curses under his breath bc he just remembered the bet. "For those who don't know, My dear baby brother Damian and I made a bet this June. He bet that I couldn't stalk a villain of my choice, for six months and not get caught by said villain and my family" he looks at Damian who folds his arms "Dear baby brother, do you know who was my victim?"

"....No" Damian said through gritted teeth but it's curious as to who it was, and it showed. Everyone else was curious as well, and could hear Bruce asking Alfred for migraine medicine and scotch.

"Does anyone else want to guess who it was?" Tim scans the room, Steph is laughing at Damian, Cass for once doesn't have a clue, his teammates are shaking their heads fondly at him, the rest of the heroes there are glancing at Bruce who downs two pills with a shot of scotch.

"Just go on, Replacement, we don't have a clue " Jason says, agreeing with Dick on finding Tim a new therapist, and for Duke since he's looking at Tim all mesmerized.

"Before I go and show y'all the villain I choose, here are some parameters I set,

1. It can't disrupt my life (easy)

2. They can't spot me at any point of this bet(a bit more difficult)

3. No undercover personas (difficult)

4. I had to swap 10 items of different sizes with bat and birds of the same size. (Just for fun, I got bored after month 2 so I started putting little bats... Everywhere, ...I got bored again... So I started vlogging my experience)..."

"Wait wait, you stole from a villain?" Lois was impressed by the guts this kid had.

"Yep, it was actually very easy" Tim says nonchalantly.

Bruce was rubbing his temples, already pulling up a few plans to protect the menace he calls son... Whom he loves...

"Without further ado... The villain I chose is...." Tim clicks to a picture of Ra's fucking Al Ghul, who was sitting on the couch in front of the presentation.... Stunned. "Ra's Al Ghul " Tim smiled proudly, everyone is staring at him. While he showed pictures of Ra's doing various things, sleeping, selfies, there's one of Tim pocking Ra's in his sleep.

"So let's start by rating my time stalking Ra's,... 5/10, it was mid"

"Excuse me!" Ra's yelled

"Well I got bored a lot, you don't do anything interesting, your life got predictable by the 4th week." Tim shrugs "moving on to the things I swapped and favorite little bat placements."

"OMFG You are my favorite brother" Jason wheezing while Roy holds him so he doesn't fall to the floor.

"Thank you, you are my favorite older brother" Tim smiles

"Hey! What about me?!" Dick shouts indignantly.

"You are going to enforce therapy after this so I demoted you to the respectable second favorite."

"Can we move on to the things you stole from me?" Ra's glares at Tim.

"Oh! Right, so I swapped ten items in total, the first one is a chess piece, 2/10. I swapped it for a bird totem. (Picture of said items)

2. A blade from the armory, 6/10, cool blade, It's Damian's now btw, swapped out for a toy bat sword. (Pics)

3. Some slippers I found, 8/10, very comfortable, swapped out for Batman slippers. (Pics, Ra's eye is twitching, Damian is trying to not laugh)

4. Rug, 7/10, swapped out for bird rug...."

"Wait that's my rug!!" Barbara wheezed " the one you gifted me for my apartment!" Dick is laughing, Duke and Cass are crying on the floor next to Babs, Bruce is trying and failing to look pissed. Everyone else is either chuckling or horrified at Tim, bc Ra's definitely not amused.

"Yes, well, I hate to give it to him, but Ra's has great taste." Tim Grins, "anyway I -"

"Detective, may I ask why you picked me?"

"I thought you would be more interesting than Lex Luther, or Slade.... I still don't know if I was right... Anyways, keep your questions for later!

#5 a kettle, swapped out for this Robin kettle. 5/10 nothing special.

6. This machine gun... 10/10 swapped out for this water gun, yes Bruce, that's how I got it for Jason. (I TOLD YOU TIM GAVE IT TO ME!)

7. This mug (shows the mug he's been drinking from all night) 9/10, I swapped it out for this one (shows a picture of a mug that says "World's oldest motherfucker".

8. This stapler from your office, 6/10, swapped out for a duck one. (Ra's is glaring at Damian who is laughing)

9. Drapes 8/10, again you have good taste of decor, Stephanie loves them, swapped out for the Batman drapes.(Stephanie is laughing so hard that it is drooling)...

10. And my favorite, it is the biggest item, a 10/10 comfortability, taste, and its just hilarious that I have it still...(Shows a picture of Ra's throne) Your throne..." Tim smiles wickedly. Everyone is stunned, mouths and eyes wide open.

"This is outrageous! Timothy, you did not steal my throne! I would have noticed!"

"And yet I've had it in my house for like 4 months" Tim says while showing a picture of said throne in his house boat. Steph, Barbara, Jason, Roy, his YJ friends, Damian are on the floor laughing so hard Alfred is concerned. The JL that's at the party is a little bit concerned about Tim's villain tendencies, and giving Bruce concerned looks, Luther is muttering something about never crossing Tim again, Bruce is just looking at Tim, asking whatever deity that's watching for answers on why his kid is the way he is. Suddenly he ask

"where is Talia?" Frowning, scanning the room, when he spots her in a corner tears streaming down her beautiful face, clutching her stomach. "Are... Are you alright?" Bruce asked amused, remembering how much more chaotic she was in their youth. Ra's is giving her a dirty look, also remembering how much chaos she inflicted.

"Timothy, you are one of a kind" she said chuckling " please continue with your presentation"

"With pleasure" gives her the biggest smile yet. " Places I put little bats... I honestly don't remember how many I hid, I got carried away quickly" Ra's eye is twitching so hard it might become a tick, Tim has the audacity to look a little guilty though. "BUT here are some of my favorites.. (shows pictures of the tiny bats in various places) "

"I love you so much..." Dick says " But you are going to therapy first thing on Thursday."

Tim shrugs "That's fair..... anyway, here are the highlights of my vlog...(Shows a series of videos of him exploring several bases, Nanda Parbat, the throne room, the bedroom, the kitchen, with pink panther theme song as background music)"

"Where are my guards?!" Ra's is pissed

"To be fair, you were having a meeting with all of them, so they were busy listening to you... again." Tim says casually

"I need better security "

"Yes, you do, grandfather"

Then they see a title card that says "Funny moments". (A video starts with Tim sitting on the floor of a bathroom)

"Is that my bathroom?!"

"Yes"

(The video shows Tim looking bored af, he whispers to the camera, 'so I'm in Ra's bathroom, it is currently 9:45 pm, and he went to bed ... At 8 pm... What a old person thing to do (Tim wrinkles his nose) he can at Le make it to 9:30 or something... Who goes to bed at 8 pm?!' )

"Not all of us have a night life!" Ra's defended himself.

('I need to pee so badly, I'm hoping he doesn't hear me, so here goes nothing' fast forward ' so it was easy, not even an assassin came to check- wait he's up, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck' it shows Tim hiding in the bathtub, covering his mouth, looking a little worried, then he hears it, Ra's is peeing, and Tim is trying not to laugh. Cringing and closing his eyes. Finally, after the longest minute in history, Ra's leaves and is shown silently laughing) the end.

"... I don't have what to think anymore" Ra's just looks tired and done with life. "Don't ever come near me or my bases, ever again"

"I won't, it's pretty boring lol" Tim scans the room and asks "any questions?"

The room explodes with questions, laughter and more questions.

Something that never quite made sense to me is why Clark didn’t have a country accent.

If he was raised by people who spoke with an accent, he should have developed an accent.

Now of course he very well could be using his specific muscle control to make his accent go away while living in metropolis. But when he’s talking with his ma and pa, I feel like he should be speaking with his accent which he probably grew up with.

It would also make sense if the specific ma and pa Kent didn’t have accents which may be a choice taken because of how society views people who have them. I personally think isn’t a good choice because it feeds into the narrative that southern people cant be kind and wouldn’t be fit to raise Clark in such a way he would turn into the Superman we all know and love. Turning him into the man of hope and kindness.

But in James Gunn Superman movie, we can see that ma and pa Kent do both have accents which I, as someone who grew up and still lives in the south, adore. I would just like to see Clark with a southern accent, it doesn’t even need to be all the time during all of his life. Maybe just when he’s with his parents or to add some more to it, it could be with specific people who he lets his guard down around. His closest friends, his family, people like that.

All I’m saying is that Clark with a southern accent is always how I imagined him. When I read his dialogue I read it with a southern accent and I feel like this deserves more attention.

Give me southern accent Clark, and my life is yours.

Give me Clark who may have been looked down upon in society for his accent and learned to hide it so he would “fit in” at the daily planet.

Give me some feelings of shame for who he is that transform into shame for being ashamed of who he is in the first place. Let him overcome this through time and healing.

Let him be vulnerable and accept parts of himself that others don’t. All of his identities. The ones he chose for himself, the ones he accepted, and the ones that he was forced into.

Give me Clark Kent, Kal El, Superman, Man of Hope.

I want them to MURDER anyone who even looks at their family wrong- reporters, other socialites (most of em work for the court of owls anyway), asshole civillans

Rouges are allowed to exsist because they need enrichment for their enclosure, but if you so much as put a TOE out of the line the family has set, it becomes a group bonding activity for the family to hunt you down and string you along in to a trap with psychological torture, then kill you when they get bored of your terror

I want Tim coming into the family because he keeps breaking into the cave while Bruce and alfred are planing the joker's demise and deeming every one of their plots unworthy.

I want Tim coming in to the batfamily because he demands revenge for Jason in the most poetic and painful way possible and he will not settle for anything less

I want Dick coming into the family crying because he hit zuko too hard and "I killed him B", and batman calmly taking Zuko's head in his hands, then snapping his neck. "No, chum, its okay, see? I killed him, not you."

I want Dick to be certain, from then on, that Bruce will do anything for him. I want dick to trust that bruce will handle anything he can't.

I want the arument that causes Dick to leave and start the Titans to be because Bruce killed Twoface so that he can never hurt dick again, and he didnt even ask Dick first. I want Dick angry at the fact the chance was taken from him to do it himself- angry at Bruce's smothering.

"Im not a kid anymore Bruce! Stop treating me like one! We agreed when I put on the mask that we would be partners. Equals. But you sure havent been acking like it."

I want Jason FURIOUS that Bruce thinks that Bruce thinks he killed the guy. Furious because he has NEVER, and he isn't fucking Dick, so stop treating him like he is. "You're such a hypocrite. I didn't kill him - i wouldn't be so idiotic to do so in plain sight, or in a fit of emotion. I have never taken a life. But you think so little of me and my skills. You have begun to constantly belittle my intelligence and call me reckless. I'm fucking done. Im done with you. You want to bench me? Fine. Find yourself a new partner. I will never take orders from you again."

I want Jason to come back to life to the highly publicized death of the Joker, but not being able to see Bruce in the plan that killed the joker, leading him to think that Bruce just let someone else kill the Joker. That Bruce didn't avenge him.

Jason, finding out TIM was the person to lay the plan that killed the Joker, finds him in TT doing mini oracle work (he has stated he doesn't really want to be a vigilante in cannon), and is BAFFLED by this weird stalker kid who adores him??? And apparently vetoed all of Bruce's plans for him??? And then he ends up somehow getting tripped into the zeta and sent back to the batcave, and then BAM he's been bamboosled into being family again-

I want Damian VERY confused about when it is and is not okay to kill people, and weired out by his stupid brothers (???) who just- disarm him and laugh when he tries to stab them. He gets scolded when he tries to stab someone at the dinner table.

Oracle WILL send out hits on people, and it becomes a game of "who can help oracle first" the alliances are constantly shifting, everyone wants to win. Desprately.

Cass is the enforcer/death omen. If you see her, youre DEAD. You cannot escape. She could kill you, but she won't. She will leave you bleeding out and poisoned, left to ponder every terrible choice you ever made. You don't even feel the cut of her blades before she's gone again.

I want steph to meet bruce as she's cornering clue master, and bruce has heard of steph and clue master from tim, and he asks steph if she wants to kill him or if he should (he learned SOMETHING from his aruments with dick- just probably the wrong thing)

(Annnnd sadly no duke bc he has a very good life with his parents who aren't jokerized. [Also I know next to nothing about his charater and i dont wanna get it so very completely wrong :(])

I want everyone to know that this trope (but make it Bruce with DID where Batman can’t kill but he can and supports his kids in that way) has been written into a great fic series.

Okay but what about a scenario with the season one yj team, and maybe no one on the team knows who Batman and Robin are behind the mask, not even Wally.

And perhaps the team is getting annoyed that Robin knows all of their identities, but he won’t share his. They don’t care that he tries to explain that it’s not just his identity, it’s Batman’s, so it’s not just him who has to be comfortable with sharing it with them. It doesn’t matter if he explains how paranoid Batman is, how it’s Batman who makes the final call on if Robin can or cannot share his identity. They just blame Robin, calling him a bad teammate, a bad friend.

Kaldur is the only one who doesn’t press him, who assures him that he has no obligation to share his identity with them.

Too bad the rest of the team doesn’t seem to get the memo.

And maybe one weekend, Black Canary has insisted that the team spends the weekend together. It’s a long sleepover, it’s team bonding. It’s so they can actually have a chance to act like kids.

And Robin had been excited. He’d been really looking forward to it, even if Batman did insist that he wear a mask the entire time. It’s more reliable than sunglasses, Batman said. More likely to stay in place. Not easy to remove like the sunglasses are.

Dick had laughed and said that it’s not like anyone would try to take his glasses off, but he complied with Bruce anyway. It did make him feel a little better, knowing the mask would be in place all weekend and he wouldn’t have to worry about slipping up.

But then he fell asleep during a movie. It had been a very long week, what with school and patrol and training leading to some very late nights. He was exhausted, and it was getting late into the night, and the movie was so boring. He fell asleep curled up on the floor between the coffee table and the couch, cocooned in a layer of blankets.

And he woke up to fingers trying to pry his mask off. Training took over, it was pure instinct, because Bruce has drilled into him how important it is to keep his mask on, to not let anyone remove it, even if he’d been kidnapped by a rogue and incapacitated. Anyone touching near his face makes him wake up instantly, and he grabs the hand that was near him and snaps it before backing away.

A pained yelp wakes him up more, reminds him where he is, because it was Wally whose wrist he just broke. It was Wally who was trying to remove his mask.

Dick is breathing heavily and looking around the room, trying to figure out what’s going on. But now he has the others yelling at him, asking him what’s wrong with him, why would he hurt Wally like that, it was just a joke.

“It’s not a joke!” he shouts at them, his voice cracking. “You were gonna take off my mask!”

“Oh come on, boy blunder, it’s not that serious!” Artemis argues.

“Yes, it is!” he gasps. “You can’t just take off my mask! I’ve told you all a million times that I’m not allowed to let you know who I am!”

“It’s not like we’d even recognize you just because we took it off!” M’gann argues.

That’s arguably false, considering Dick Grayson’s face is on the cover of one of the magazines M’gann currently has on the coffee table right that instant.

“That’s not the point!” Dick shouts, but he’s already grabbing his stuff and throwing it all into his bag before he darts to the zeta tubes. He’s hyperventilating and trying very hard not to outright panic when he runs into Kaldur, who looks concerned and confused. He was coming from the direction of the bathrooms, he must not have been in the room when they decided to try and take a peek.

“What’s going on?” Kaldur asks, moving to place a hand on Dick’s shoulder.

Dick flinches away, feeling bad when Kaldur looks sad.

“I’m going home,” Dick tells him, his voice cracking again. “Wally’s wrist is broken.”

“Robin? What happened? Are you alright?” Kaldur tries to ask, but Dick is shaking his head.

“They tried to take off my mask,” Dick whispers, but he’s putting in the code for the Batcave and leaving before Kaldur can say anything else.

Bruce is still hunched in front of the Batcomputer when Dick gets back, and he’s surprised to see him so soon. But he opens his arms when Dick rushes towards him, and he holds him tight and calms him down when he realizes how upset Dick is.

When he finds out that they tried to take off Dick’s mask while he was asleep? He’s livid.

He doesn’t let Robin join the team again for months. Which is fine by Dick, because he doesn’t want to work with them anyway. He misses Kaldur, but Robin and Aqualad find ways to hang out away from Mount Justice, away from the others. Aqualad relays to Robin how poorly the team performs when Robin isn’t there to pick up the slack, how their lack of experience is becoming quite evident when their mission success rate plummets without Robin.

What happens next? Idk. Maybe Dick starts his own team with Donna, Garth, and Roy. Idk.

I think I'd like it better if Artemis is the one that tries to rip the mask off, but that might just be the bottled up feelings I've had since I read the Artemis is a Bully promt you wrote.

Okay but I was GOING to make it Artemis who was trying to take off his mask, but I thought I’d give her a break since she’s been my main bully lately lmao. But I like to think the two of them were egging each other on until Wally was finally the one who actually did it. So they were both in on it, the main instigators.

"People change people" but in a horrifying "watching as the people I love and trusted with my life slowly bring out the worst sides in eachother and they don't realize and wont listen when I point it out so I have to be a bystander to them slowly becoming more mean spirited and untrustworthy until i can only recognize parts of who they used to be under who they have become" way

+ kids are mean so robin having more experienced than everyone else even though he's the youngest means that it's very easy to ostrisize him (even unintentionally)

and get an attitude along the lines of "i'm older. Therefore, i know better." and "he's just a bossy kid. We don't have to listen to him and his made-up rules"

Then, you complain about robin, just one time, and someone agrees. And it becomes a slippery slope that builds resentment towards robin, because he's stubborn and not the most eloquent with words, and you don't find any of his reasons good enough.

Slowly, any bitter thought or complaint about robin is voiced, and people back you up, cement the idea in your mind. You start calling his reasons excuses because they just don't seem reasonable anymore. He's already annoying you, so every percived slight or fault is magnified and you give him less grace than you should give a friend.

He gains a reputation amongst the group of being unreasonable and stubborn, and every time he's in the room, you see more reasons why.

He's asking for people's mission reports? Why? You aren't the team leader. You shouldn't be reading the reports anyway. Why the fuck are you bothering Artemis about a spelling error? You were the one who wanted the reports right then and there.

No, Megan doesn't know where she was when that was happening to other members on the team, she was focused on her objective and just trying to keep the mindlink open. Its fucking hard, okay? She's constantly doing three things at once, and you need to learn to appreciate how much she does for the team, and frankly, the attitude that youre giving her is atrocious. Why are you mad? Just because you decided that you need to clean up the reports and clarify things on them for batman does not mean that we're at your beck and call.

Oh, superboy is the one who causes too much property damage? Like you're perfect, mister "batarangs that explode"? It's hard to control powers that he discovers more of day by day. You don't have powers, you don't get to complain about superboy's "lack of discipline". And to offer training together, as if you know anything about how to fight with a body type like kon's. Any training you tried to give superboy would probably do more harm than good.

Oh. You brought Wally a pie? That you made yourself? You never do this type of stuff for the rest of the team. You really need to put more effort into befrending the rest of them, they can tell you don't really try, rob. It doesn't matter that today was supposed to just be about KF and Rob, man. I really like our teamates, and it makes me sad that you don't even try to get along with them. Running away? Really Rob? You can't just disappear every time a conversation gets hard. I know you're still in the rafters. This is really childish. Fine. I'm leaving. If you want to act childish, do it by yourself.

And every time something like that happens, to the other people on the team they go, telling the story through rose colored glasses, making robin seem slightly more unreasonable than he actually was. They sympathize with eachother, bemoan their own experiences with Robin. Wally recalls similar stories from before the team, again with those rose tinted glasses, accidentally creating the narrative that robin just- always like that. Nothing has changed.

Their perspective of robin drifts further and further from the truth, and they adjust their attitudes to who they THINK robin is accordingly.

It takes Roy showing up and fucking shooting wally through the shoulder to pin him down for wally to realize how bad he fucked up. Roy thinks that wally is a fucking agent of the reach or clone because he was acting SO FAR from the Wally he knows, ESPECIALLY towards robin.

I'm talking like- Roy pulls up footage of wally trying to take off the mask like "If you're REALLY KF then how do you explain THIS". I'm talking Roy trying to deprogram KF by asking him for memories of robin, then compairing the memories against footage of what happened.

I'm talking Wally having this epiphany of "oh i dun fucked up." When he walks back into the base for the first time since he had that realization and hears artiems regaling the team with the tale of how robin DARED to point out an OBIVOUS TYPO in her report.

"Oh shit I gaslit and neglected and bullied my best friend for almost half a year before he left me" type realization, and the numb horror of realizing that there was NOTHING forcing him to act like that.

Roy, who has NEVER seen Robin quit/leave anything in his entire life: *leaves conversation to go find robin's mask footage and to stalk wally and robin*

Roy, who's reviewed most of robins mask footage from the last month robin was with yj and is a little angry that robin stayed in that situation for so long: where's the footage from when you left wally?

Robin, who archived it so that unless a bat was intentionally looking for it no one could find it:

Robin: *plays footage from both the security cameras and his mask of the entire night, focuses on switching the cameras so roy gets the best view and he doesnt have to look at roy*

Roy, who kept his mouth shut during the entire video, so he can make sure he has all the details: This wasn't your fault Rob.

Robin, flabbergasted:

Roy: This was the team intentionally and maliciously violating every single boundry you set

Robin: i would say it was mali-

Roy: You have forgiven them for a LOT of things that you wouldn't normally let slide.

Roy: You helped them, even directly after they berated you for offering to.

So- in this au Bruce and Alfred HAD to have seen the signs of bullying/abuse/gaslighting, methinks. Batman is trained to look for them and alfred has TRAINING istg he would know-

Dick getting quieter, not laughing as much, apologizing more, hesitiating to ask for things (maybe even flinching and guarding himself whenever hands reach near his face bc the team has "jokingly" tried to take his mask off before???)

but I don't think they'd connect it to the team, because thats the last place you'd think to look- thats supposed to be his support system- hell, Bruce has met wally and liked him, felt like he was a good kid, is sure he'd stick up for his friend.

So they look LITERALLY everywhere else. Ask about school. Are they teasing Dick? Is a teacher harassing him? Ask about encounters on patrol. Was the last encounter with twoface too much? Re-evaluate their interactions with Dick and training methods. Are they putting too much on him?

Meanwhile, Dick is in denial, "everything is fine, im not going to get my friends in trouble over something so simple, Bruce is too overprotective, alfred has a gun"

Everything feels normal, they cant figure out whats wrong and Dick isn't talking to them- so Bruce and Alfred just have to watch as Dick shrinks into himself and keep their ears out and make his days a little brighter.

Alfred makes cookies more often, bruce and him play basketball and watch stupid corny movies.

Then, one day, dick comes home from YJ crying and shaking, and everything clicks into place. Dick doesn't say a word, goes completely silent for a week. The next time he goes on patrol, he uses too much mask glue. Bruce watches the footage and seethes.

Alfred and Bruce and Dick stick together. They talk a lot, with alfred and bruce trying to help dick through it. They try to get dick into therapy, but it doesn’t really stick. Robin stays in gotham for a long time.

Bruce- who re-evaluated every parenting decision he's ever made at least twice over the course of this, and worked on his communications skills because maybe if he'd been better, dick wouldn't think that the kind of treatment he endured from his "friends" was okay, maybe if he and bruce talked more, then he'd feel alright telling bruce instead of bruce having to find out through the sleepover incident, maybe if Dick felt comfortable telling bruce about how much work that had been put on him by his teammates then bruce could have pulled him out, maybe, maybe, maybe- works on making sure that Dick feels safe in the mannor and he really doesn't have to do anything that he doesn’t want to.

(It takes giving Robin to Jason for Dick to really grasp how bad it was on YJ, because next gen YJ reaches out to Jason and Dick has a physical, viceral reaction. His baby brother is NEVER going to be treated like that, how DARE they assume that all is forgiven, dick is going to do much worse than breaking wrists if they even try to come within an INCH of jason-)

Yj is suspended, every member is forced to go through sensitivity training on abuse, bullying, manipulation, gaslighting, everything under the sun. They're relatively okay with it until they get to the mandated therapy where they learn that all this is because of what happened with robin. They justify it, rationalize it, talk themselves blue in the face. They are forcefully separated from each other for a month and made to spend it away from Mount Justice, so they can't validate each others delusions.

Kaldur still takes the courses and corses on how to recognize abuse of all kinds. After, he cuts ties with yj for a while and goes back and learns magic under the queen. He has his own life he doesn't need them lol. He'll come back to lead them and the next gen after theyre deemed ready.

The first one to realize how bad he dun doofed was wally. He processes things alot faster since he's a speedster afterall. Also, roy shooting him through his shoulder and interogating him DEFINATLY served as a wake up call.

Megan next. She's watching old reruns of "Hello Megan" and she hears the bully say something and is like "wait, I said that to robin." Then she rembers the first time she watched this episode she was like "how cruel :T death upon bully charater" then she tries to justify how SHE said it, then that she was just nieve back then and didnt know earth, then when that doesn't feel right, she meditates and goes back into her memories trying desperately to prove that she was in the right, but as she goes farther and farther back she realizes how cruel she was being. She sees a memory of yj all sitting arround a table talking bad about robin and literally FLINCHES back because she can see a DIRECT parallel to the cruelest charaters on "hello Megan" that you were designed to hate.

Artemis and Black Canary aruge a LOT in therapy. Artemis is very defensive at every precived slight, but Black Canary takes apart every arument with a calm and rarional rebuttle. Artemis ends the sessions more often than not by storming out after shouting her lungs out. But she always comes back for the next session. Slowly, the shouts go from "THIS ISNT MY FAULT! I DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG!" to "What?? So im Just a bad guy now?!? I MADE A MISTAKE! YOU JUST WANT TO WRITE ME OFF AND CALL ME A BAD PERSON" To "Yeah? Well what am I supposed to do? Huh? I fucked up. I RUINED EVERYTHING. I ALWAYS DO." to "IT ISNT THAT EASY- I CAN'T JUST APOLOGISE. I HURT HIM-" so. Shes working on it.

Kon is very stubborn. He was there, but I think he was mostly just a bystander. He wasn't mean to robin's face, but he wasn't kind either. He treated robin the same way he treats everyone in the beginning, except he let himself be softer with the others and build relationships, and Robin got the same hackles raised treatment no matter what. I don't think he recognizes what he did. I think he's too defensive and he doesn't trust black canary that much. I think it takes Ma and Pa kent, with their loving words and strong hands and acts of service to help smooth over his sharp edges. I think Kon sees them, and he feels undeserving of the love they so freely give. I think it takes observing ma and pa kent and how they go about their lives and relationships. I think it takes seeing ma viciously shut down a friend trying to gossip with her while they were making pie. And I think, it takes kon working out late on the farm and pa saying, "Look at those stars. I never get tired of them." Smash cut to Dick standing in front of the whole justice leauge, back straight and voice steel, defending someone he just met. "We're showing him the stars." THAT is the kind of person robin is. Robin is like Ma and Pa Kent- unerringly kind. And Kon- who was supposed to be his friend- stood by and let people who were supposed to be their friends belittle and berate him. Kon doesn't deserve Robin. And he will work to become someone who does.
