You loved moments like this. These casual, domestic moments. Just a walk in the park in a Sunday morning. No schedules, no screaming, no staff running after you and no fan asking for an autograph for the nth time. Just you, Hyunjin and a normal day. Everything felt perfect.
So, of course, something bad had to happen.
It hit you with no warning, when you were the most unprepared. Hyunjin was talking about some heart warming experience he had with a stay when, suddenly, you froze. Literally. Your left knee simply refused to do its normal movement, instead petrifying on spot. When your feet hit the ground, a huge pain shot through your entire leg and you fell. Would've fallen, had Hyunjin not held you right before you hit the floor.
“Y/n?” your boyfriend looked with worry at you, wide eyes when he saw the first tear silently roll down your cheek. Quickly, he saw how your hand held your knee and how your leg was bent in a quite odd angle. It took him less than three seconds to put your arm in his shoulders, carefully carrying you to the nearest park bench “take it easy, love. It's okay.”
Soon enough, you were sat with Hyunjin kneeling in front of you, stretching your leg so he could massage where it hurt. At this point, you were supposed to be used to this pain. It would constantly come and go, and for most of it you were always able to push the ache to the back of your head and kept on living normally. It would hurt in every step, but it was bearable. But sometimes, it hit you like now. And oh, what a terrible feeling it was.
The worst part wasn't even the pain. Of course it was awful for itself as well, but it wasn't the part you hated the most. What you truly despised about it all was what you weren't able to do because of it. Whenever Hyunjin invited you to hang out with the boys, you rarely felt good enough to join in their antics. You'd constantly visit Hyunjin in the practice room, and you really wanted to dance with him, but you never could. You couldn't even properly play with Kkami, never lasting more than ten minutes. It totally sucked. The pain of the injury was something you could handle, but the pain of not being able to be there was enough to make you feel like your heart was ripping itself apart and it just couldn't–
“Love?”
You blinked. It stung a bit, like you hadn't blinked in a while. Your boyfriend was still in front of you, his knees still on the grass. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah” you took your leg away from him and bent it closer to you. It was better now. He made it better “Yeah, yeah. I'm good.”
He raised his brow a bit, noticing the pain you were feeling right now was somewhere else “Are you sure? You zoned out for a bit there.”
“I'm fine, it's just... Can you get up?”
“Huh?”
“People are looking at us” your eyes drifted to a group of friends that had been looking at you since you fell, and, at the other side, a couple that pointed at Hyunjin when he started to massage your knee. That's the other thing you hated about all of this. Everyone looking at you like you were some sort of freak when you were just in pain. Your voice was as loud as a whisper when you continued: “They're looking at us weirdly.”
Hyunjin sighed. His heart broke every time your voice quivered like that. He hated how often it happened.
“Of course they are looking at us weirdly” he replied, getting up to sit next to you, putting his arms in your shoulders as lightly as he could “They must be wondering why someone like you is dating someone like me.”
You paused. That wasn't the answer you were expecting, not at all. “What?”
“They must be thinking you're doing charity. Either that or they're think I'm really funny.” you laughed, genuinely so. What was he even talking about? He smiled. “Guess I'm funny, then.”
“You're so lying.”
“What?” and just like that, his dramatic mode was activated “You don't think I'm funny? So you're really doing charity, is that it?”
“No!” there it was, your laugh once again. Hyunjin couldn't even pretend to be offended when you smiled like that “I meant, like... You know what I meant!”
He laughed with you, seeing how your shoulder was less tensed and your hands didn't shake anymore. And like that you both stood for a while, just enough so your heart felt lighter. When that happened, Hyunjin brought you closer, hand still in your shoulder, and asked:
“Do you want to tell me what you were thinking about?”
You got a bit tense, your smile torn, but he could see that, at least, it didn't hit you as hard as before.
"It's nothing, it's just..." you sighed "Doesn't it bother you?"
"What?"
"Me." his eyes widened and he fully turned to you, like you just said the most absurd thing ever (which you did). It would've been comedical if it wasn't tragical. "No! Not me, sorry. My condition, I mean. The knee, the pain, the... everything. Doesn't it bother you?"
His eyes softened, glad he was starting to get you, happy you'd let him in. "It doesn't bother me, Y/n. I want it. I want you and all that comes along. In sickness and in health, remember?"
You smiled softly at his words. He was impossible "We're not married, Hyun."
"It still stands" he held your hand, looking at you like he's seen every beauty in the entire world and decided that your eyes are the prettiest thing there is "It's just a matter of time, after all."
You've lost count of how many times Hyunjin made your brain malfunction in a way or another. He wasn't teasing. He wasn't joking around like before. He wasn't even wondering, he was stating. There was absolutely no doubt in his voice, he said it like that was the most normal thing ever, a fact everyone knows and would never question.
"You want to marry me...?" your voice was small, somewhere between an affirmation and an interrogation. Now it was his turn to furrow, a slight doubt creeping into him.
"I thought I made myself clear enough? I told you that before, didn't I?"
"You did, but... I didn't think you were serious. Like, I didn't know that- I didn't know you had thought it through."
Hyunjin's hand squeezed yours, his touch bringing you peace. "Well, I did. I thought of everything. And every single thing led me to wanting to be with you. Bad knee and all, I want to be here for as long as you let me."
You felt your eyes get teary, his smile getting a bit blurry in your sight. Those moments made you remember why you loved him so much. He was kind. Genuine too. He loved with his entire being and with no shame. You truly appreciated how unshakeable his feelings for you were, but you still felt the urge to warn him. "I can't dance all of the crazy choreographies you can."
"But I can hold you close and just slow dance, right? Way more romantic than thunderous dance break, I would say."
"I have too many bad days."
"And I'll be there in every single one of them."
"I have to go to physical therapy. It can cost a lot."
"I know you didn't just imply I don't have money."
You laughed weakly. "What about time?"
"I'll make time."
"And the days I can barely walk?"
Hyunjin stood up and turned so he was standing in front of you, offering his hand to you "Then I'll carry you home."
