“Anywhere that’s not here?”
“I like the way you think. Then let’s get out of here.”
“Then come on. Let’s leave.”
“Hmm? And where would we go off to, Karen?”
“Wouldn’t you prefer slow days? Less work to do.”
“Now that I have it, it’s impossible to comprehend.”
“If you keep that up, your hair will go grey and you’ll end up with wrinkles.”
“Then I guess I should heed your advice. That’s one thing I don’t want.”
“Slow days aren’t always that awful. Just relax a little bit.”
“I guess I’m used to being under pressure.”
“It’s been a slow day at the office... This needs to change.”
Lucy looked over at Felix. “I’m fine. I don’t need your help,” she said. “Don’t you have someone here to talk to?”
"Come on Luc, you look down in the dumps. Don't wait for those demons to have a good time. At least let me get you a drink."
Lucy groaned at the sound of the familiar voice. Why did Felix have to find her? “What do you want, Felix?” she asked in a bitter tone. “I’m not putting up with you all night. So leave before my new employer comes.”
"Oh come on. I'm not here to pester you." Felix had an offended look on his face. Why did she have to assume the worst all the time. I came to see why you were sitting alone. This is your first masquerade. You should be enjoying it."
Little Lucy felt lost at the ball. She wasn’t invited, nor had she ever been. But it was her boss’s suggestion for her to attend. She had saved enough money for a dress, which was light and flowy, faded pink, and no where near as extravagant as the other guests’. A matching mask clung to her face, but even that seemed plain compared to the others. She was like a little mouse caught up in Cinderella’s ball. She was bound to stand out for sure. She sat alone at a table, waiting for her employers or someone she knew to find her.
Felix was one of the few who were glad to be attending the ball. He always enjoyed a night of socializing and schmoozing. It also gave ample opportunity to create new business deals and for his men to sell his goods. Felix scanned the room, searching for anyone he might recognize. There were a few who stood out, but not as much of a sore thumb as little Lucy sitting in the corner. He was not about to leave the girl all alone.
"My my, little Lucy at the party." Felix had a grin on his face as he walked up to her. "But how on earth did she get in here? She doesn't belong."
"It’s not like you could tell my landlord to bend the laws for me, and you are not exactly the generous type. I don’t see you bailing me out of jail. And if you did bail me out of jail it would be to kill me."
"You and I are both aware how persuasive I can be."
"Uhhhh, yeah. I am pretty sure it’s illegal to stay in an apartment after your lease is up. Then I would be in jail and really unable to come to work."
"That would be the case if you didn't work for me. You think I'd let any of that happen?"
"I don’t know… but I can’t move with how much I am working lately and I already put in my thirty days notice."
"...You put in your what? You think you're leaving?"
"I am moving to a better neighborhood. So I need a day to get out of my apartment and in to the new one."
"And what am I supposed to do that day? Hide at home and pray no one realizes my defense is gone?"
"I’ll see what I can do for you… also, I need a day off."
"...A day off? Why?"
Are you okay with the fact that if you die the Weston reign ends?
There will be some way for it to pull through.
Do you think you'd make a good politician?
Good enough, right? I mean come on. You think half of the council are good politicians? It's made up of a child, a narcissistic vampire, and a clueless werewolf.
Will you ever reconcile with your brother?
I imagine not. We are both stubborn people. And his sense of business is a joke.
