INSTEAD, they should make efforts to not overproduce. donating clothes should be thoughtful. many times, when clothes are donated abroad to âdevelopingâ countries, it destroys their local economy and opportunities for local clothing stores to sell their clothes cheaply enough. it is good to think of ways to responsibly get rid of âwasteâ and excess we do create, but the first step should be to stop the excess from being produced in the first place. #preventative measures.

Right on, Morrisons.
Danielle Nierenberg, President of Food Tank, shares a sustainability pro-tip in honor of Earth Day. Instead of wasting leftover pasta water by pouring it down the sink, you can save it, let it cool and use it to water your plants. The starchy H2O will give them a beneficial nutrient boost and help them grow. Just be sure to avoid using cooking water that has been salted or seasoned.
This also applies to leftover water from boiling spinach, potatoes, and hardboiled eggs, according to Readerâs Digest.
I do this with the rinse water from rice
There are a lot of times I feel like justâŚflipping the vegan script.
Itâs not âpolyesterâ itâs plastic
Itâs not âvegan leatherâ itâs plastic
Its not âfaux furâ itâs plastic
Plastic is a pollutant and causes far more damage to the environment both now and in the future than leather or wool.
Please stop telling me that the Plastic Lyfe is the only life, it is not. My leather shoes will last a decade where pleather is lucky to last 12 months. Leather (and wool) decompose and are renewable. Plastic is neither of those.
THANK YOUUUUUUU~
A single wash cycle of plastic-based fiber (polyester, poly fleece, faux fur) may release 700,000 pieces of microplastic into our waters. Nasty stuff.
aw dangit
Plastics are also petroleum products, so the impact of their production compounds the impact of their waste!
Especially since non-food-safe plastics are barely subject to regulation as-is & the short product lifespan is considered a feature, not a bugâ because it makes people have to go out & buy more new plastic whatevers whenever the old ones wear out or get tossed.
Veganism can absolutely be approached with an environmental angle, but choosing plastic shoes over leather & acrylic socks over wool does about as much to save the world as the last (or next) oil pipeline leak. Youâre not a hero because you choose to wear vinyl. Youâre just the douche wearing vinyl.
Just sayingâŚ
Why build a tiny house instead of buying existing small house or trailer?
The biggest reason for me is creative empowerment.
There are so many things we arenât in control over. But one of them, if you have some money put aside, is your shelter. Thereâs something incredibly validating about building my own shelter.
If you think about it, how many things do you create on a daily basis, vs consume? How much of your individualized potential is being expressed in your daily life, vs molded by others?
So many of us wake up in beds designed for the masses, wearing one size fits all PJs, grabbing our push-button coffee out the door on the way to our increasingly commoditized jobs in the car with the âbest reviewsâ.
Best not become unemployed or youâll lose access to your pharmaceutically manufactured pills. That would make the CEOs very angry.
I sleepwalked through 3 years of consumption before I finally realized Iâm not even participating in my own life!
In my house, everything is exactly how I want. And if itâs not, Iâll have intimate knowledge how to change it.
Solar power, heated floors, loft speakers, enclosed shower, four-burner range⌠Hell a garden in my living room if I so desire. I can have it all in 150 sq ft. for about $30,000. And go anywhere with all that too. And no one can evict me or foreclose on it.
