what are yall doing that we need this??
essentially, public outlets, in particular, usb outlets, are vulnerable to someone putting a little bit of tech in there between the mains and the outlet itself to access any data-capable device that's plugged into it, adding files, trackers, anything you could fit in a thumb drive and set to auto-execute, basically.
given the usb port on your phone is both a data and power cable, this means that, any time you plug into a public wall outlet, you run the risk of someone dropping the digital clap onto your phone (same with public wifi sometimes.).
So, when traveling or using a public outlet, you're supposed to use a cable designed only to charge and not transfer data, but that's inconvenient, so people don't always do that.
anyway, being able to set the connection port to just charge and not transfer data can cut out the middleman, keeping you safe from this modern age of digital 'S'TIs (the S stands for Sync this time)
