Tips for Fight scenes #2
When characters are in a fight, their adrenaline levels skyrocket, which can affect their perception of pain and time.
If a character gets punched in the stomach, they might momentarily lose their breath, making it difficult for them to retaliate immediately.
Sweaty palms can make it harder to maintain a grip on weapons or objects during a fight, adding an element of unpredictability.
Injuries such as cuts or bruises can throb with pain long after the initial impact, distracting characters and potentially affecting their performance in the fight.
Characters might experience tunnel vision during intense combat, focusing solely on their immediate surroundings and losing awareness of peripheral threats.
Loud noises, such as gunshots or explosions, can temporarily deafen characters or leave their ears ringing, impairing their ability to communicate or hear approaching danger.
Characters might experience a surge of aggression or fear-induced paralysis when faced with a life-threatening situation, impacting their decision-making and fighting effectiveness.
Painful injuries can trigger involuntary reactions, such as flinching or crying out, which can inadvertently give away a character's position or intentions to their opponent.
Adrenaline-fueled fights can leave characters feeling exhausted and shaky afterward, making it difficult for them to think clearly or coordinate their movements.
In the heat of battle, characters might not notice injuries or pain until after the fight is over, when the adrenaline wears off and their body's natural defenses kick in.

idk about u guys but i LIVE for jiara flashbacks and missing scenes. enjoy this fic:)
summary: a missing fight between kiara and her parents and a subsequent missing moment between jj and kiara after midsummers in S1E5 that proves they were always more than friends. also a deeper dive into kiara and jj's minds during the infamous anniversary scene in season 3...and a missing flashback that explains perhaps why jj acted the way he did in season 3.
Immaturity in The Summer I Turned Pretty
I think tsitp is really interesting, mostly because of the immaturity of the three main characters, and that leaks into the Fandom space as well. Each one of the characters is very immature at this current moment but in very different ways, and I really hope we'll get to see how they grow and mature next season.
First off we have Belly. Despite a lot of her actions I really like her mostly because of her space as an unreliable narrator. You have to read into scenes with a more precise lens because we're being fed false information as fact based on how Belly is feeling at the current moment. Which shows her maturity level. She is very insecure but also very self involved. She inflates her importance but often times in a negative way, which leads her to making these incredibly rash decisions and has her flip-flop on her feelings all the time cause she feels like she'll never get her chance again and tries to shield herself from hurt. With Conrad she never trusts his intentions because she's spent so long telling herself he is a fantasy that she can't trust he genuinely loves her or wants to be with her. And with Jeremiah you have kind of the opposite thing happening she never really entertained the idea until he brought it up so now she feels like she can always trust him to be there and love her despite the fact that he's been trying to move on.
With Jeremiah, he is competitive and overconfident. Belly's relationship with Conrad forces him to face both of those without him really wanting to. He does genuinely care for Belly but he gets jealous and scared that he won't be good enough because she's always been in love with Conrad. And it being Conrad just makes it worse for him, because we see that he's always felt overshadowed as the younger sibling and that Conrad was 'the golden boy'. We see with how he reacts to Cam. He is jealous, but he'd be willing to let her date him, barring a little teasing, because he wants her to be happy. But that doesn't happen with Conrad. The only reason he gave them his "blessing" is cause he didn't want to look pathetic. It's a competition and a way to prove he can truly win out over Conrad, and every time she chooses Conrad over him it's a hit to his ego. He wants Belly to be happy, but only if it's not with Conrad.
With Conrad his immaturity is shown in a very different way. Whereas Belly and Jeremiah are immature because of lack of experience and needing to learn, Conrad has had a lot of responsibility. Both of his parents aren't reliable. His dad's never around, and though I love Susannah, she is not flawless. She has a very common belief that you don't talk about hard things you plaster on a smile whether or not you're actually happy because you don't want to bring the people around you down. The problem with that is if you cannot express your emotions or how you're feeling you will either be completely unable to address and understand your feelings or you'll blow up. Conrad is immature in the way he refuses to address his feelings even when he's hurting people because he doesn't know how.
I just think it's really interesting to see especially how the Fandom reacts to it because a lot of us are immature in similar ways and we're going to relate to and care for the characters that act in ways we would.
Anyways I want to hear what other people think of this and any counter arguments to these ideas cause I really like analyzing these characters and their actions.

*TSITP BOOK SPOILERS*
I see a lot of ppl being concerned or confused how they’re gonna follow the cheating plot line in season 3. In my opinion, I don’t think Jeremiah cheating is as out of character as some people think. Most of the time that we see jere it’s while he’s at cousins, interacting with his family, dealing with grief, etc. But we saw him in his truest extroverted social form in season one a bit during the various party scenes and HE IS A FLIRT. Girls want him left and right, he’s insanely popular and talkative, def like very sexually active in the sense that he hooks up and sleeps around with Randos, etc. Anyways I think that we’re seeing Jeremiah in a bubble right now but as soon as we see him outside of cousins in his college life it’s gonna become very apparent that belly and Jeremiah are VERY different people (not that belly is socially awkward but she’s just more introverted and quiet and not a party person like jere). I could definetley see jere flirting or being touchy with other girls and that causing problems between belly and him, even if he thinks it’s platonic. It’s such a big part of his personality. I can see the differences between belly and Jeremiah’s personalities causing a rift between them or causing issues and tbh it’s not hard to believe that jere would cheat on belly when things get hard during their relationship or if they take a break.
they're cute

Timeline of Conrad and Belly’s Relationship
I’ve seen a lot of folks talk about Belly and Conrad’s relationship (pre-breakup) in the context of “how the heck did Belly not know how Conrad felt?” and I think acknowledging that they likely only saw each other ~5-10 times in person when together makes a big difference as to how Belly could be confused as to Conrad’s feelings.
Relationship Timeline:
Late October: Conrad drives five hours to Belly’s house, brings her candy, and tells her he’s not over her. They get together.
Late November (Thanksgiving): they see each other in Boston for Thanksgiving; it’s very possible this is the first time they’ve seen each other in person since the Halloween visit, though I suspect Conrad would have visited Belly once before this trip.
Late December (Trip to Cousins): Conrad drives five hours to pick up Belly and then they drive another five hours back to Cousins. They have presumably ~a day in Cousins before he returns her to Pennsylvania.
Late January/February (long enough after Christmas for Susannah’s situation to have changed, but likely within a month of Prom, which was likely early March): Conrad visits the Conklins, as we see him in their kitchen, discussing prom logistics. After this point, Conrad distances himself from Belly. I doubt he visits again until Prom.
Early March (Prom): Conrad again visits Belly’s hometown for Prom. We know Prom is on the 1st of a month, and I theorize it was March 1st - we know per Conrad’s roommate he was super depressed by their breakup. Belly says he was likely depressed for other reasons, and the roommate staunchly disagrees. We know Savannah dies April 14th, and I feel like if prom was April 1st, Trusky wouldn’t nix Belly’s theory about Conrad being sad for other reasons.
Then we have post-breakup:
Late April (Susannah’s Funeral - held after her death on April 14)
Early June: there’s some conflicting info on when S2 starts - in ep 2 Jeremiah mentions it’s only been a month since his mom died, but at other points folks say it’s been six weeks. When Belly visits Conrad’s dorm and finds the necklace, the calendar is on June (it mentions Juneteenth), so I’m thinking it’s very early June.
So my read of the situation is that Conrad and Belly were together a little more than four months (basically all of Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb), but Conrad probably started distancing himself from Belly in late January. I doubt they were able to see each other in person too much beyond what is listed above, because they lived ~5 hours apart, Conrad had to prioritize visits to his mom, and we know Belly never visited Brown, meaning Conrad was the one doing the visiting.
While Conrad was very clear with his affection toward Belly at least through Christmas (though he never said the L word *to Belly*), Belly always feared she wasn’t enough for Conrad. And if they only saw each other in person ~5-10 of times before he started to distance himself, it’s no wonder she retconned their relationship in her head to mean that he wasn’t as invested as she was. Conrad becoming distant and then not reaching out after Prom to make amends probably just confirmed her worst fear - that he didn’t feel the same way and that she wasn’t enough for him.
This post is public service at its finest
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again.
Jeremiah was perfectly fine with belly dating cam Cameron.
It was only when she was into Conrad that he started having a problem.
"you don't need to hurt yourself to get my attention" if a man said that to me i would literally laugh in his face then throw up
IT WAS SO CRINGE I HAD TO SKIP THE SCENE
And here I was thinking Jeremiah and belly’s kiss was hotter !!
