BREAKING: House of Representatives votes to gut Internet privacy rules
Fight for the Future will unleash billboards to expose lawmakers who take large contributions from ISPs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, March 28, 2017 Contact: Evan Greer, 978-852-6457, [email protected]
The U.S. House of Representatives just voted 231-189 to gut the FCC’s Internet privacy rules that prevent Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Comcast and Verizon from selling their customer’s personal information to advertisers without their consent. The measure already passed the Senate last week, so it will now head to the President’s desk for signing.
Yesterday, digital rights group Fight for the Future, known for organizing massive protests against SOPA and for net neutrality announced that they will put up billboards with the names of every member of Congress who voted to sell off their constituent’s privacy rights.
“Today Congress proved once again that they care more about the wishes of the corporations that fund their campaigns than they do about the safety and security of their constituents,” said Evan Greer, campaign director of Fight for the Future.
“Gutting these privacy rules won’t just allow Internet Service Providers to spy on us and sell our personal information, it will also enable more unconstitutional mass government surveillance, and fundamentally undermine our cybersecurity by making our sensitive personal information vulnerable to hackers, identity thieves, and foreign governments,” she added.
The group released a draft mock-up of what the initial billboard – which will be unveiled in Washington, DC and in select districts – will look like, with the names of the 50 Senators who voted for the bill last week. Today they tweeted a mock-up of a billboard targeting Rep Marsha Blackburn, who has taken nearly $700,000 in contributions from telecom companies over her career.
“Congress should know by now that when you come for the Internet, the Internet comes for you,” Greer added, “these billboards are just the beginning. People from across the political spectrum are outraged, and every lawmaker who votes to take away our privacy will regret it come election day.”
By using the CRA to gut the FCC broadband privacy rules, lawmakers voted to allow ISPs to:
-Monitor and sell customer’s location data, search history, app usage, and browsing habits to advertisers without your permission
-Hijack customer’s search results, redirecting their traffic to paying third parties
-Insert ads into web pages that would otherwise not have them
Fight for the Future was instrumental in the massive grassroots campaign that successfully pushed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to enact the strongest net neutrality protections in US. history last year. They built the page BattleForTheNet.com, which was responsible for more than ¼ of all the net neutrality comments received by the FCC during its feedback process, and were behind the Internet Slowdown protest, which was supported by more than 40,000 websites including some of the largest on the Web like Kickstarter, Etsy, Netflix, and Tumblr.
The group also helped take the fight for net neutrality into the streets with creative protest campaigns like Occupy the FCC and the nationwide Internet Emergency protests.
Fight for the Future is best known for their role in the massive online protests against SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, and continues to organize many of the largest protests in the history of the Internet. Over the summer, they organized the high profile Rock Against the TPP tour featuring many celebrities and well known musicians. Learn more at FightFortheFuture.org

Spread this far and wide. We will NOT be a Big Brother state.
Hold the GOP to the same standards we hold the Dems and make them HIGH standards, because we deserve better than both parties’ Establishment have been plopping on our plates. We rejected them when we put Trump in office.
Reject this now.
Am I the only one who hates it when people try to recommend shows/movies by only talking about how diverse they are? I mean, I certainly do see the need for more diversity in show business, but saying "there's a x character" doesn't really tell me anything about the actual quality of said show/movie. If I'm going to watch something I want to know about its genre, its tone, its quality of writing etc. "Its diverse" doesn't tell me any of that and is honestly not enough to make me want to watch it
It’s also extremely patronizing.
Wrote a silly epilogue comic of the Samurai Jack finale. SPOILER WARNING
I know szechuan sauce is originally from China, but I couldn’t help but add this :D
IT GOT EVEN BETTER!
“white people have no culture” aka “I have never been to any part of Europe and I probably cant name more than 5 European countries, much less pinpoint them on a map. I also dont know how languages work and I have no idea how Europe as a continent is ethnically divided and diverse. I have no clue how the tribes of Europe interacted with eachother throughout history, I dont know how they differ from eachother and I have no knowledge of how differently every tribe developed into modern times, thats why I probably dont even know how and why WW1 really started. I cant tell the difference between Slavic, Germanic, Altaic, Gaelic peoples/cultures and instead of doing a simple google research Id rather sit on tumblr, feel sorry for myself and how majorly and unimaginable oppressed I am, and blame all dem white pepel”.
So this is true but also America has culture. Kind of sick of people only bringing up Europe as a counter argument to this idea..
The blending of many separate cultures does not mean the resulting mix is cultureless itself.
Going Against Political/Social/Racial/Sexual Stereotypes and common beliefs
-Not all conservatives are narrow-minded, religious extremists, or Nazis. -Not all liberals are SJWs, overly sensitive, or PC. -Not all libertarians are neckbearded gamer dudes still living with their parents. -Not all socialists want communism. -Not all people fighting for social justice are SJWs or Special Snowflakes. -Not all Anti-SJWs dismiss important social justice issues. -Not all centrists are either apolitical or the ‘holier than thou’ kind. -Not all conservative men are sexist. -Not all liberal men are ‘cucks.’ -Not all conservative women are weak. -Not all liberal women are feminists. -Not all feminists are overweight women who are considered ‘masculine,’ or ‘ugly.’ -Not all atheists are smart. (coming from an atheist) -Not all religious people are unintelligent or close minded. -Not all feminists hate men. -Not all anti-feminists hate women. -Not all Radfems are TERFS. -POC and LGBTQA people can identify as conservative. -White cishet males can be SJWs. -Nonbinary people aren’t ‘doing it for attention.’ -Trans men are men. Even if they are feminine men. -Trans women are women. Even if they are masculine women. Can we just agree that silly generalizations and buzzwords, when used in a supposedly serious debate about important issues between whoever; are totally not needed?
I hope one day that history looks back on ronald reagan as one of the 20th century’s most vile and disgusting serial killers
may i ask why
Remember when like 6 Americans had ebola and it was an international emergency, and Obama flew out to meet survivors? Here is a list of things the United States government did in response: -Increasing the number of Ebola testing labs throughout the U.S. that can quickly and safely screen a potential Ebola specimen -Educating more than 150,000 health care workers on how to identify, isolate, diagnose, and care for patients under investigation for Ebola -Developing countermeasures — including the first Ebola vaccine to progress to Phase 2 testing — to prevent and treat Ebola -Converting at least 10 of the Ebola Treatment Centers into long-term Regional Ebola and Pandemic Treatment Centers for long-term readiness for years to come -Helping state and local public health systems accelerate and improve their operational readiness and preparedness for Ebola or other infectious diseases Source: https://whitehouse.gov/ebola-response
When the Reagan administration was faced with tens of thousands of gay men dying, they did nothing. They made jokes. They laughed. They caused an epidemic that killed 40 million people, because they hated gay men and thought we deserved to die.
There is so much more to it. There is a myth perpetuated by Reaganites that he was an historically significant President, in some positive sense. If you are old enough to have voted in 1980, you probably know differently. If you were born after 1980 you have been raised on this myth. He sold Americans a fable about a Hollywood movie-like exceptional past and destiny, and led ordinary people around with portrayals of that mirage while his reactionary robber-baron friends set about dismantling 50 years of progressive advancements for working men and women, on their way to returning themselves to the position of unfettered economic domination they held between the Civil War and the Great Depression. He was a union buster. He gave us Scalia – need I say more? He tried to give us Robert Bork (does anyone under 30 even know who he is?). He lied about Iran/Contra. He avoided dealing with AIDS. He sealed the political sham-show between right wing capitalist kings and the evangelical thought-control snake-oil salesmen. Americans don’t want to hear that they are ordinary citizens of the world, and they don’t want to hear that the aren’t anointed by some deity to lead the world to salvation. They lapped it up, and they continue to do so.
I have to wonder how the response of a more competent presidency to the AIDS crisis might have changed even the global impact of the disease. Where might we be today? How many millions of people would be alive and not suffering? Yes, Reagan was historically significant—for fucking things up in a globally devastating way.
When you hear how he slashed Income taxes, he did on the Wealthy, but he increased the lowest tax rate from 10% to 15%.
His campaign was funded by Christian radicals, whose entire goal was to dismantle Roe vs. Wade and see American women relegated once more to back alleys and dirty knives. He opened the door to religion in politics in a way the postwar McCarthyists never dreamed possible. Now, 36 years after his election, maybe a third of American medical schools offer proper access to even first-trimester abortion training (in an era where that should mean a pill or vaginal suppository), and there are currently fewer doctors trained to perform late stage abortions for the entire US than there were pre-RvW (when such operations were only performed as a heroic measure).
And no one has even touched on his legacy of racial hatred, deliberate destruction of black communities and establishing of COONTELPRO to destroy the lives of black panthers and black activists, his actual murder of black activists and more. He was actually a demon.
If you want to know how many lives could have been saved if the Reagan government had just fucking BUDGETED for AIDS research instead of telling AIDS researchers that they had to beg, borrow or steal any money for AIDS from other programs–then read And The Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic, 20th-Anniversary Edition by Randy Shilts. And be prepared to have your heart broken at the unadulterated and wildly irresponsible waste.of time and human lives.
Other shitty things Reagan did:
1) He almost tripled the National Debt. And you need to see the difference with zeroes:
When Reagan took office in 1980: $909,100,000 owed.(909.1 billion)
When Reagan left office in 1988: $2,601,300,000,000 owed. (2.6 trillion)
2) He raised taxes on the middle class and the poor ELEVEN TIMES while in office.
3) Unemployment soared after Reagan passed his tax cuts for the rich, and it took decades to get back down again.
4) He turned the U.S. into an illegal weapons dealer.
5) He funded terrorists, helping create the Taliban and Osama bin Laden. From NewsOne:
After Ronald Reagan was elected in 1981, U.S. funding of the mujahideen increased significantly and CIA Paramilitary Officers played a big role in training, arming and sometimes even leading mujahideen forces.
The CIA trained the mujahideen in many of the tactics Al Qaeda is known for today, such as car bombs, assassinations and other acts that would be considered terrorism today.
6) When his economic policies began wreaking havoc on the government, Reagan stole from Social Security–to the tune of 2.5 TRILLION–treating it for eight years as the private slush fund of himself and his rich friends.
7) [T]he Reagan administration demonized opponents of apartheid, most notably the African National Congress, as dangerous and pro-communist. Reagan even vetoed a bill to impose sanctions on South Africa, only to be overruled by Congress.
They called him the Teflon president for a reason. All this shit–and none of it stuck to him. He got away clean every single time.
Not to mention his influence in shutting down help for the mentally ill and leading to increased homelessness.
This is where the comic gets GOOD, people! The days of Penders are over, and now we’re gonna look at legitimately decent storytelling again.
I’ve waited a long time for this, so ladies and gentlemen, let us begin.
MFW robotnikholmes finally reached the Flynn era.
I love that while this artwork was taken directly from the Shadow the Hedgehog box art, since the comic is aimed at kids, they censored the gun out of the cover.
So now he’s just kinda holding air
I like to think that he’s counting from 3, as in “Hey kids, only 3 more issues and then it’s Ian Flynn to the rescue!”
“Straight people are boring”
Being gay makes you gay, not interesting.
Being bisexual makes you bisexual, not interesting.
Being pansexual makes you pansexual, not interesting.
Being asexual makes you asexual, not interesting.
Your sexual orientation doesn’t determine how entertaining, interesting, or engaging you are. If you think only thing about you that makes you interesting is your sexual orientation then you need to pick up a hobby or something.
this was written by a boring straight person
That’s news to me

writing an autistic character when you are not autistic - a masterpost
completely double spaced version on google docs here – this post is more blocky for the sake of people’s dashboards, but still long so people will be less likely to glaze over it. my apologies if that makes it hard to read
things to look for and avoid in an autistic character
• symptoms only manifesting as “nonverbal and rocking” • super smart / living calculator • super dumb / doesn’t understand anything • all the symptoms you can come up with for them are “awkward” and “has special interest(s)” (please do more research) • trains, technology, and/or math as special interests • acting like a child • getting treated like a baby • unreasonably cruel and uncaring about others’ reactions to them being cruel • if they’re comparable to sheldon from the big bang theory, start over • animal comparisons • a lack of feelings • please no stories about what it’s like to be autistic told by allistics
the right way to write an autistic person
• lots of symptoms, including secondary ones not included on a general diagnosis requirement list (here’s a list i rather like that was made by an autistic person – their blog is also a good resource) • having a good amount of general knowledge and actually talking about it (i cannot believe that i have to say this) • talking about things outside of special interests (again…. come on……….) (special interests are usually the default things our brains go to when theres no stimulation or we want to entertain ourselves – it isn’t literally all we think or talk about ever. if a conversation has no connections to a special interest, reconsider having your autistic character bring it up in a context that is not an introduction.) • explicitly expressed to be capable of attraction and romantic feelings – if your character is an adult, add sexual feelings to this point • capable of general functioning, just with a disability that makes it more difficult – not a walking disability (….sigh) • a wide amount of feelings and emotional turmoil (but perhaps only being able to express it in limited ways) • we’re people • just people whose brains are wired differently
things to avoid in research for an autistic character
• autism moms / autism blogs and websites not run by autistic people • any affiliation with autism $peaks means you should walk away and never look back • a scientist trying to create explanations for what autistic people do without actually asking / not mentioning asking autistic people • anything about a cure for autism • a person that “worked with autistic kids” phrased in the same way as “worked with animals” • talking about autistic people as if they are mysteries, are like animals, or are otherwise othered weirdos instead of people
things to look for in research for an autistic character
• actual autistic people talking about their experiences and symptoms • just stick to that and you’re good but it’s hard to find sometimes ngl. just look for the above red flags
things i would personally like to see in an autistic character
• less easy to swallow sadness and more destructive anger. i would love to see a canonically autistic character who was frustrated easily by small things and had trouble communicating why • not a story about being autistic, a story that happens to have a character or characters who are autistic – it isn’t pointed out or questioned, they’re right at home with the rest of the cast and not othered (a la symmetra from overwatch) • intensive sensory issues / small sounds making large reactions • clear communications about not liking x sensory thing (for example being touched) • poor motor skills / clumsiness and not being laughed at for it • walking funny (body bent downwards, walking very fast, walking slowly, big strides, shuffling, stiffness, etc) – no one treats it as if it’s funny or something totally strange • a big personality that has a presence so they can’t be cast aside (but feel free to have quiet characters too) – if this was along with being nonverbal they would probably leap to being one of my favorite characters ever • a fear of asking for clarification on sarcasm or jokes because of past experiences and an arc about the character becoming more comfortable asking questions
>> if any fellow autistic people want to add something, feel free <<
allistics are encouraged to rb this
Honestly though, we’re all being really unfair to Mass Effect Andromeda’s facial models and animations. Sarah in particular looks a lot better once you get out of the ship and go planetside.
“Canada! Fuck Yeah!” XD
