Companies in the 2000s: You wouldn't download a car! Digital copies are still stealing, even if the original copy remains with us.
Companies in the 2020s: That digital copy, which you have paid for, doesn't really belong to you. We're removing it from your library now.
Companies deleting media you've literally purchased is 1000x more realistically "stealing" than digital piracy, you cannot change my mind
when u like a character for their potential to be interesting and complex more than how they’re actually written
once you reach a certain level of Animal Knowing you become burdened with two absolutely true, completely contradictory facts:
animals are basically the same, a lion is a big kitty
a lion is absolutely not a big kitty, are you fucking stupid?
Back when I was in high school, volunteering at the zoo, I had this encounter with one of our mountain lions.
Now, I had actually petted the older, calmer female. But this was one of the males - they'd never been even slightly interested in me. But today? He made eye contact with me. He hunkered down. He did the butt waggle like he was going to pounce. Again. And... POUNCE. That cat crossed a good 20 meters in about 3 seconds. He only turned away at the last moment because there was an electrified fence.
He made sure I knew he was there. He wasn't hunting: he was playing. This was exactly like a housecat playing with you.
But, just because he was playing, didn't mean I wouldn't have been dead if he'd actually pounced on me.
They are big kitties. It's just that housecats are small and can't seriously injure you.
Thank you, that was terrifying
Make my day

So, for the past month and a half, I've been going down the rabbit hole of bread making. During this time, I have developed my own live sourdough culture to make bread with. Below is my latest loaf I've made with it.
I'm incredibly proud to say that, today, I had what was possibly the dorkiest revelation of my life:
How many breadmakers are Resident Evil fans? Because I just came up with possibly the best name for a sourdough culture.
I shall unleash DOUGHOBOROS!

A King deserves a Loyal Family
This is a redraw of another art I did prior to chp 5
having the Aviation Accident Investigations Autism™️ has actually done wonders for the way I process and respond to my own fuck-ups
And I don't just mean "oh, my little work mistake is actually nothing compared to a fiery crash that kills people," either. The reason commercial flight is so many orders of magnitude safer than any other form of transportation is because after every accident and incident, an independent regulatory body investigated it with the express goal of figuring out exactly what happened, why, and how to prevent the same thing from ever happening again—not to root out which person deserved the blame or the liability.
It's a simple, shockingly effective idea. It's also worlds away from how most people approach their own mistakes and the mistakes of others.
Because it’s never just one person’s fault. And even when it is, it still isn’t.
The sharpest, best-trained pilots make worse decisions when they're tired or sick or stressed out, so there's two of them. The most dedicated and experienced air traffic controllers garble an instruction over the radio sometimes, so pilots are trained to always repeat clearances back to catch misunderstandings quickly. The best and brightest maintenance mechanic still overlooks a screw or misconnects a wire once or twice in her career, so aircraft systems are built with two or three or four layers of redundancy, and pilots are exhaustively trained to deal with failures safely.
Everyone eventually has a bad day. Every component breaks down. Every computer gets a bad a Windows update and spirals into a reboot doom loop. If it’s possible for one person’s mistake to domino into a mushroom cloud of a fuckup, then that task is too critical to be one person's sole responsibility. The accident sequence starts with the design of the system—so how do you improve the system to keep it from happening again?
oh yeah. The “modern commercial aviation is the safest form of transport” thing only applies to planes, btw. A helicopter is a beautiful metal horse that wants to break its legs and die so so so badly
just because someone can articulate their point better doesn’t make them right, it makes them articulated.
and you aren’t stupid for having trouble articulating yourself.
This bop was on my mind today. Part of me feels kind of bad for Sandy Marton. Imagine writing that song in the 80s, running a solid musical career for a decade, retiring, and then finding out that song had an explosive resurgence decades later because of someone putting it in their animated pôrno featuring two Nintendo characters. And now your legacy is inseparable from said pôrno. That would be awkward as hell. If you know, you know.
The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
I know this sounds like the deranged ramblings of a senile old man but I swear it used to be possible to look up information on the internet
im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad
i love them
Rando: Here's a post you made 7 years ago. You need to take accountability and apologize for it.
You: I did say that, but keep in mind that was 7 years ago, and if you actually follow me then you would see that I've changed a lot. There, deleted it. Again, I'm sorry.
Rando: NO! Make an apology video.
You: Did you not hear me? My action said so itself. Being put on blast is not going to change what I did, but I can change what I do about it.
Rando: Hm... You're faking it. You're only sorry that you got caught.
You: What else do you want me to do? Even if I was "only sorry that I got caught", everyone demanding an apology and me taking a long time to deliver it is clearly not a genuine apology. So there's no point, if I was a problematic person.
Rando: I'm gonna tell everybody how horrible of a person you are, and it's going to be held against you for the rest of your life. I just hope you know that.
Everyone: Woooow. I always got weird vibes from that person. So disgusting. Yeah.
