Remembering Evita's Opening Night 1 year ago. Has it really been a year? So much has happened in that time. I could not have predicted what this role has meant for Rachel. Someone said it brought redemption but then some said redemption wasn't needed because she didn't do anything for which she needed redeemed. I think it proved the online haters wrong. She was able to show her resilience and perseverance. She proved she was a hard worker capable of commanding one of musical theaters most demanding roles. She showed that those who said she couldn't sing or who called her ugly were in fact vile, hateful, and misinformed creatures. She showed just a little bit of star quality.

It really has dear reader! Honestly though it doesn't feel like a year has past. Maybe because Evita is still in the news cycle and we have her Broadway debut soon to occur.

Absolutely! And I do not even think even she could. I still remember when we were wondering if Tom would attend her Romeo and Juliet musical especially in 2024 only for him to finally attend in January 2025!
And then we began wondering about Evita and if he would attend. Things were looking less and less likely until of course he attended that too.
Of course, her sold out London Palladium shows also happened so Rachel really lived and breathed the stage last year that in many ways it's understandable why she won the Olivier.

I'd say two things can be true at once. Evita proved that she still had an audience despite the online hysteria the online woman haters club were manufacturing before Snow White and after Snow White especially after.
The unfortunate box office results coupled with all the negative articles including that infamous Variety article where we learnt Ben Platt's father had gone to berate Rachel over her politics were eye opening.
It was also eye opening as to how the industry tried to shield her co star and make her the central issue with the film when there was so much wrong that it become a giant pile up on Rachel.
How an industry could think casting Gal Gadot wouldn't cause an issue is beside me even if you took Rachel out of it.
So Rachel despite being very qualified to play the role because of her singing really became a target and there were people waiting for her not just to fail but to disappear unceremoniously.
Evita was the universe telling her she wasn't and couldn't disappear and what's so redemptory was the audience reception.
It proved that Rachel wasn't the issue. It was the online narratives whipping everyone into a frenzy that was the issue and the sad thing is Star Wars came out this year and may earn less money than Snow White.
Yet Rachel alongside many other very talented women were the ones that had t endure online abuse and hysteria over getting cast.
So no, Rachel has nothing to prove. Her talent was evident to anyone who heard her sing but Hollywood is a business or that's what they say and she needed to sadly prove she still had an audience.
That's where being a triple threat comes in because she can sing, act and dance.

The attacks on her looks were particularly profoundly mean but also just untrue. Rachel IS a beautiful girl.
Her looks are striking and she has to do for big brown eyes.
They certainly got Tom going ha. All the insults especially relating to her Snow White costumes were a styling issue.
We've seen how Rachel dresses when she's going to an event. In fact, her styling for the Snow White press tour was inspired!
And the link you sent in even showed her beauty. It was the height of absurdity for the online woman haters to try and either edit her pictures or take publicity stills based on how a movie was looking to ay she was unattractive.
There was a severe lack of critical thinking and online negative point scoring going on and I'm glad that Evita got Rachel to shine.
Like, a relatively smaller musical compared t a conglomerated company in Disney managed to highlight Rachel's looks and talent.
I will always look down on how she and any other actors like Halle Bailey weren't properly protected by that company after being hired.
