emperor kuzco was clearly gay
hes 19, with unlimited power, and he ainât got a gf. the only time we see him interact with any women his own age is when heâs rejecting like 7 of them rapid fire. he pretends to date pacha in a gag that lasts like 10 solid minutes. listen to me god damnit
Okay, but just in case anyone is coming to tumblr dot com for my hot takes on 20+ year old kids' movies: Kuzco super WAS gay (or at least coded as such) and of course, I didn't get it until I watched it as a gay grownup.
He is played obviously camp and dramatic, for a start, and there is the aforementioned "hate your hair/not likely/yikes yikes yikes/let me guess you have a great personality" summary dismissal of all his potential brides. Then he spends dinner asking Yzma about Kronk ("so he seems nice? He's what, in his late twenties?") and otherwise being slightly obsessed with him.
Then there is the whole Adventure of Doom with Pacha, him being ever huffy about the Kiss of Life, and then the restaurant gag where Kuzco takes to playing Pacha's fake wife and dressing up in ladies' clothing with great gusto (reinforced by the waitress' "bless you for coming out in public" remark when Pacha says they're on their honeymoon). Then when he is finally de-llamafied, we don't see him paired off with the obligatory girl from the lineup earlier, as might otherwise be expected in a Disney movie. Instead he is still single, but goes to found family it up with Pacha, Chica, Kronk, etc, which dare we remark is a very queer trope.
In short, I have no idea how a Disney movie with no white people (all the characters are Indigenous/people of color), a gay king, cross-dressing jokes, and the most offbeat plot of all time actually ever got made (can you imagine the Family Friendly Mouse doing that today? Let us also talk about Kronk because he is a brilliant deconstruction of both toxic masculinity and the musclebound henchman stereotype.) Other than that this was the Chaos Hour of animated movies in the late 90s/early 2000s, and yes.
So yes. There you have it. I will not be taking criticism at this time.
In response to the question âHow did a movie like this get made at all much less by fucking Disney?â there was a recent Vulture article that outlines the whole shit show of a history behind this film according to everyone (writers, directors, VAs, Stings) involved. The gist of the story is that they fucked up making a whole, true-to-form Disney musical that never came to see the light of day SO BADLY that Disney switched directors, locked the writerâs room, and didnât review a single script until weeks after the film was in theaters.
Please, read this article if you have some time. This story is wild, and involves directors being pitted against each other Bake-Off style and a shockingly intimate documentary created by the wife of Sting who, himself was heartbroken by the decimation of the songs he wrote for the film including cutting a fantastic Yzma villain song sung by Eartha Kitt that is SO DAMN GOOD but would not ever have fit the more nailed-down Yzma we would eventually come to know and love. Itâs so catchy though, Iâm doubling up on calls to action but please listen now:
holy shit read the article. itâs worth it and completely batshit
This is fucking insane
I've never adequately appreciated the batshit brilliance of this joke, I've taken it for granted
The WGA strike does not mean no scripted work can film; it means writers specifically are not working, but the rest of the production can continue if the studio orders it to move forward and if the location is not picketed.
Per the article linked in the tweet: the scripts have already been written, there are no writers on set and no more revisions, and Disney has issued a memo forcing the productions to go on and forcing hyphenate WGA members to return to work to do obligated non-writer duties (directing, acting, producing, etc.)âeven if it potentially means that forcing hyphenates to do their obligated non-writing responsibilities skews close to or can be interpreted as performing struck work or scabbing.
Andor, like many scripted series filming in the UK that already have their scripts completed, is being ordered to go ahead and film specifically because the studios know that these locations are not picketed like US locations in LA and New York. The majority of the industry is not on strike, actually, and they are obligated to keep working if there is no picket line blocking entry. (Sidenote, late night was suspended because late night scripts are written very close to filming; they must immediately shut down because they have no scripts completed and writer-actors cannot write their own lines. Further sidenote, I do not know where the article got "most productions shut down in solidarity" because that's not really true.)
Until there is a picket line denying entry to the UK studios and locations where Andor is filming, the production of Andor is obligated to continue on without its writers if Disney orders it to do so.
There's something much worse going on here than "the people who created Andor are ignoring the strike and going ahead anyway." It's Disney the studio knows that the scripts are completed and is ordering the production to go ahead without on-set writers, and Disney knows what a hyphenate like a showrunner is and is not obligated to perform during the strike (yes producing, no writing) and is trying to pressure hyphenates like Gilroy to perform non-writing portions of their jobs in a way that may corner them into strikebreaking and get them in trouble with the guild.
Andor (and many other scripted series) that have completed scripts going ahead and filming without writers on set and without any further revisions that may arise as necessary isn't necessarily thumbing their noses at the strike and the WGA, it's working under the strains of capitalism and under pressure from companies to keep working.
The takeaway here is: the studios can order forward productions that have completed scripts and film them and this is perfectly allowed per the WGA strike rules, and the way to halt them is for people in the UK and other local locations to picket them.
Legally, in order to run a picket in the UK, you need at least one striking worker, or an officer of the union as an official picket, and you need a trained picket supervisor in the local area. You also need to inform the local police you are picketing. Then anyone can join the picket as a supporter (although only official pickets are *meant* to talk to workers who are crossing).
There's a lot of legal rules around picketing in the UK, but once a picket is set up, it's legal for anyone at the workplace to refuse to cross it.
If any members of the WGA want to organise pickets in the UK, please feel free to HMU for advice, and I can also put you in touch with trained picket supervisors and others who may be able to help.
To be clear I'm not suggesting one shouldn't set up an illegal picket, but it wouldn't offer the same legal protections for workers refusing to cross it.

Bobbie how dare you hide this gem in the tags!
So within two days of each other, Fox News writes an article comparing aromanticism and asexuality to pedophilia, and then Matt Walsh releases a video saying asexuality is a mental illness and asexuals are tricking teenagers into having depression.
Not sure whatâs going on right now over in Conservative World, but itâs a hell of wild U-turn for them to suddenly switch from âOh no! The left is sexualizing our children!â to âOh no! The left is asexualizing our children!â
Itâs a reminder, I guess, that theyâre coming for all of us. The fash and the white supremacists will not make nice distinctions between the queers when they put us up against the wall. There is no gatekeeping, no label-policing, no purity-purging and no assimilation that any of us can do that will save us. They want us dead, and while theyâll start with whoever is most vulnerable at any given time, theyâll get around to all of us eventually.
Queer solidarity means all of us because the fash are coming for all of us.
Some of you will have to stop spreading this "adhd and autism overlap so much" bullshit if you're not going to add how the very few traits that overlap present VERY DIFFERENTLY IN THE TWO CONDITIONS.
Otherwise autism and ADHD aren't as overlapping as people say, but because of this rhetoric people on tiktok are now fucking theorising that autism and ADHD ARE THE SAME SPECTRUM CONDITION.
Like pls. If you're gonna share that venn diagram from neurodivergent insight, at least educate yourself on how the traits that look similar on the outside present themselves differently in the two conditions, and how highly autism and ADHD are comorbid. Hear that? Not overlapping. Not very similar. Not the same. COMORBID. Meaning you can have both.
Besides this, another thing that started circulating is that "CPTSD mimics autism so much that you can't tell the two apart" like NO!! AUTISM AND CPTSD ARE ALSO TWO VERY DIFFERENT CONDITIONS FOR THE LOVE OF WHATEVER GOD IS WATCHING OVER ME RIGHT NOW.
Not to mention that these rhetorics can harm self and late dx'd people so much. Especially autistic people who have lower support needs might be invalidated by people telling them "are you sure it's not just adhd/ptsd?"
It can harm people's self-dx process, those people who can't get professional dx for whatever reason. We already have very limited research and info, we don't need blatant misinfo as well.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk, I'm fucking tired. Some of yous have gotten out of hands. Please watch what you spread.

not to oversimplify an extremely complex discipline but if i had to pick one tip to give people on how to have more productive interactions with children, especially in an instructive sense, its that teaching a kid well is a lot more like improv than it is like error correction and you should always work on minimizing the amount of âno, wrongâ and maximizing the amount of âyes, and?â for example: we have a species of fish at the aquarium that looks a lot like a tiny pufferfish. children are constantly either asking us if thatâs what they are, or confidently telling us thatâs what they are. if you rush to correct them, you risk completely severing their interest in the situation, because 1. kids donât like to engage with adults who make them feel bad and 2. they were excited because pufferfish are interesting, and you have not given them any reason to be invested in non-pufferfish. Instead, if you say something like âIt looks a LOT like a tiny pufferfish, youâre right. But these guys are even funnier. Wanna know what theyâre called?â you have primed them perfectly for the delightful truth of the Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker
I was in martial arts for years, and in particular I kinda specialized in working with the younger kids.
The two Big Rules when instructing younger students was- 1. Compliment before Critique 2. Donât say âbutâ, say ânowâ
Praise kids on what they get right first, especially if they are struggling. Like OP said, kids donât like to engage with people who make them feel bad. They need encouragement when learning new things.
Number two boils down to this. If you tell a kid a compliment, then say âbut you need to fix thisâ, that âbutâ completely negates your compliment. Itâs gone. It was canceled out like adding a negative to a positive. Using âhey, that punch is looking great, now letâs focus on your stanceâ doesnât verbally cancel out the progress theyâve made. Itâs like theyâve checked off something on their list of stuff to work on.
Wording can absolutely make or break a childâs motivation and interest.
Rebloggling as itâs relevant in a Medical Education context
Honestly I use all of these to teach vet students too. I think people in general respond better to positivity in teaching. Not coddling, but acknowledging when a student got part way to the right answer, or had a good thought process, is something Iâve found keeps students engaged and builds confidence, which encourages them to keep going instead of shutting down and just âgetting throughâ a lab or a rotation
I just saw this picture and had to post it immediately.
