there is something so fatal and obsessive about Penelope's and Eloise's friendship. "i wrote what i wrote and i gave it up for you" says Penelope when Eloise confronts her about Whistledown. their friendship follows a slow yet steady arc that is similar in nature to the show's romantic arcs. pen and eloise are not simply friends, they have made the choice to be each other's safe havens in a world which objectifies them as property, and constantly dismisses their interiority, intelligence and agency. in such a world they grant each other agency, they celebrate each other's intelligence and interiority. that's why the whistledown thing hits that hard for eloise, she interprets it as a betrayal to the safe haven they created together. it's not simply a conflict between friends, it feels like a betrayal of the very selfhood of Eloise that, without Penelope, falls apart. Penelope in pursuing an individual selfhood through Whistledown finally gives that very selfhood up, and all for the selfhood she gains from her relationship with Eloise. this friendship is not just a friendship, it's visceral, it's friendship AND it's sapphic, it's friendship AND it's more potent and consuming than passionate romance itself.

After 24 hours of ruminating over the S3 synopsis, I’m still really stoked. We are going to get the essence of RMB and I could not be more excited. At some point Colin is going to probably think:
