Dedue reached out to stroke one of the horse’s muzzles, his face falling.

“…this one was bred for him at the castle. A gift for him, from his father the king. It is a symbol of happier times. In many ways, its company provides a balm to his soul that no other can offer.”

 N hummed as he listened to Dedue’s explanation, moving his hand so the horse wouldn’t feel crowded with the pets. As much as he tried, it was hard to imagine Dimitri being soothed by something like a horse. Then again, people were a mystery to begin with...

“He must love them very much.” N gently looked to the horse, who nickered softly back. “If you’re comfortable, friend. But maybe later...”

He glanced back to Dedue, his tail tip softly curling in interest. "... are you from these happier times too?”
