What if I don’t want to?
ichunwerde:
Morning came too soon. With night’s departure went Sebastien’s dead-limbed quiescence and he exploded into wakefulness like a gun going off.
He shot upwards with a ragged breath, hair forming incredible configurations from old styling product and a night smashed against a pillow. With a muffled shout, Sebastien tumbled from the bed still tangled in the linens, and hit the floor with a loud thud.
August’s only dachshund crawled to the edge of the mattress to peer down at him with a quiet, judgmental huff; Sebastien gave one last feeble kick to try and free his legs from the linens before settling back against the floor, eyes shut tightly against the throbbing headache and cheerful morning light.
‘…damn,’ he said feelingly. Fritzi seemed to agree and scuttled from the bed to the floor, having decided that Sebastien’s queasy stomach made a far superior pillow. Sebastien heaped quiet verbal abuse on the dog, who cared not a bit about his human mumbling–she was warm, inexplicably comfortable, and was having her ears petted. Sebastien’s head fell back against the floor with a muted thump as he sighed, surrendered to the inevitable, and let his eyes drift shut again for just a moment.
There was a wet, investigative snout in his ear to wake him again later and the soft, deep murmur of August’s voice elsewhere in the flat–
He was instantly flooded with a feeling that he was loathe to examine too closely, lest he label it as relief. Senseless in the face of familiar settings and stimuli (dog breath in his face, dog nose in his ear–) but he had…worried, some, like he always did when he was pressed into drinking more than he should.
Sebastien let go of the breath he hadn’t known he was holding, letting his tired eyes drift over the light-speckled ceiling, hand smoothing down Fritzi’s long back. Here was safe. Here was safe and he could continue pretending it was a normal Sunday morning.
August hadn’t slept in for very long, even by his own standards. When Sebastien startled awake and made his little racket, August was out of the house, going on his daily morning run. Lack of sleep from work, or reading, or even from taking care of a certain older German, rarely fased August when it came to his regular routine. He had always been a punctual, proactive morning person.
It was still rather early when August returned, and after showering he prepared breakfast for both himself and his nighttime guest. He was dressed casually, in shorts and a football jersey, with slippers for shoes. The radio played softly in the background, and the flat wafted with the smell of carb-dense hangover food. August talked to his dogs (or, arguably, to himself) as he listened to the news broadcasted over the radio. Musing aloud always helped him collect his thoughts ... and considering his company, distracted him from the more tender feelings that would otherwise occupy him. He made the food with care.
„Do you think he’s awake yet?“ August asked his closest dog, Aster, who watched him eagerly due to the warm and wafting plate in hand. When August had last checked on him, Sebastien was asleep on the floor ... he had decided to leave him there for the time being.
Despite it being his own bedroom, August knocked and waited a second before entering, the rest of his dogs trailing eagerly behind him.
„Good morning.“

“And to think - this mortal flaw is the main driver behind so much of anything that we do. It obviously makes sense that we would value our people above all others but sometimes, I can’t help but wonder is there nothing that can be done by our kind. We clearly have to prioritize our people first due to our nature - that likely can’t be changed. But ..” He shakes his head, the train of thought not really coming up with anything worthwhile in his opinion. Maybe it’s not even worth questioning if there was anything these nations could do even in the face of having to value their own over others.
“Ach, it’s probably not even worth the effort. I can’t even make sense of where I suspect I was going.” It was an annoyance that he struggled with- so many things going through that he often lost track of the idea. It only leads him to discount any idea that he might have had so quickly.
‘It’s necessary, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t flawed. Many things exist solely because of their imperfections, ironically. Perhaps then it could be argued that they’re not even imperfections at all ... but I digress. I don’t think it’s a matter of changing - we cannot - but just a matter of recognising the flaw within ourselves. That way we can behave accordingly, and act preemptively against our own nature.’
I cannot get over how cute this pup is
Germans are absolute masters at being petty as fuck and tbh I love it
God I can’t wait till we pull our bases out of your smug nation. Defend yourselves.
Deutschland verlassen!!!!
You do realize that the USA need those bases more than Germany does? These bases have very little to do with protecting Germany.
Ramstein is a key part of the infrastructure for US drone attacks. Without that base those wouldn’t be possible (source). And believe me, Germans are not thrilled that is happening.
The biggest military hospital in Europe is in Landstuhl, Germany (source). Basically almost any wounded soldier from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan gets treated in Germany. Also most military transports to Iraq and Afghanistan stop in Ramstein.
The USA have nuclear weapons stationed in Germany. With German pilots and staff trained to deliver them if deemed necessary. And the USA would like for them to stay there, with Russia nearby and everything. (source)
So, you know, why don’t you try pulling out and see how your superiority complex copes? It’s not like most Germans are thrilled about those things. There have been demands that the USA leave. But they don’t want to.
if the other half of your nation is the living personification of a roomba, why not take advantage tbh

It took great effort on her part to ignore that same cynicism inside her own heart, but she wanted to be the exception, not the rule. She would rather be the annoyingly optimistic one, than just another miserable wretch. They call themselves ‘realists’, but all she sees are people who have given up entirely.
“There’s always going to be a part of us that relates to them.” She nodded. “But there are also struggles I can’t understand, no matter what. Human women encounter things I never will, and when those things come up in stories or whatever, I feel like an outsider. It doesn’t really matter, though, does it? Because our role is to represent them to the best of our abilities. We’re similar enough to humans for that to work, aren’t we? Sometimes I do feel like my life would be easier if I were human, but I’d be so damn bored.”
To be cynical is not necessarily to be a realist, and nor is a realist necessarily someone who has given up. Quite the contrary, August would argue: the nature of accepting the world for what it is and persevering regardless-- that is the very nature of idealism, which is how August identified himself. “To give up” wasn’t an option in the ichor of nations, anyway.
‘No, we will never be able to completely relate to them, you’re right.’ August paused. ‘That is our role, but that’s my point: we exist solely to reflect them, and they become our existence. But there is one aspect in which we cannot reflect them-- and that’s to love all of humanity equally. No matter how precisely we’re created in their image that is one quality that we will never be able to share with them. I think it’s important to recognise that in ourselves, and to act accordingly. The world will never progress, otherwise.’

[Text:] I have to process them before lunch time tomorrow. I’m not your boss, but please be considerate that I have things to do as well.
[Text:] Unless you’d prefer to undergo the mission of coming to Germany and processing the documents yourself. It would certainly save me the trouble.

Germans take their day of rest very seriously. Shops are shut, people take leisurely walks and there will be absolutely no domestic drilling thank you very much. It is against the law to drill at any time on a Sunday. And it doesn’t stop with DIY either, take note that throwing away bottles in the recycling bins is also strictly forbidden outside certain hours - just check the containers. In the same vein, Germans like their peace and quiet and it is STRENG VERBOTEN (strictly forbidden) to tune your piano at night.
Love me my German Sundays where no one has to feel bad about being a lazy piece of shit
My granddad once had a go at my mum for painting the fence on a Sunday :’)
When I was living in Hochheim my housemates used to spend all of Sunday tanning in the garden (or at least trying their best; this was in Germany in the spring) with a glass of wine at hand, moving as little as possible.
That’s truly inspiring
top 5 angela merkel outfits
curse you for actually making me google “Angela Merkel Outfits…”
But don’t think I wouldn’t do it so here we go:
1.
I really like how she is accessioning here. The guns are a nice touch, so is the guy she hired to point at her.
2.
I like this. Sadly the only remembered when she was already in the car that she forgo the black sunglasses and her neuralizer at home
3.
She returned to the sea for a while after this
4.
I think she actually has the exact same blazer in literally every colour?
5.
And again with the accessioning, bringing her own US president was a bold move, but it payed off
Bonus:
what?!?!?
