ananas x reader plz? (ur blog is rly good ahdhdgdh ive been dying for some self insert stuff)
Ananas didn't like to admit faults of themself. They were capable, they were strong, and they were proud. They could admit others continued to baffle them through how they behaved and their rituals around certain days and emotions. It was nonsense to them. It was to the point where they had, for the most part, pushed it out of their brain and it was no longer a concern for them to understand or even remember. People liked to receive things, that’s all they needed to know.
Then the present came. It had been long since Ananas needed to worry about other’s emotions, much less figuring out what emotions they were trying to convey through strange gestures instead of speaking clearly. Most cookies he interacted with often were rather plain with their emotional states, as it was easy to physically see how they were feeling. Then came you and your own strange way of managing and expressing emotions. It was quite different from Ananas, and somewhat different than the other islanders. It left the yellow dragon confused to a degree. Of course, not more confusing than the dull sensation in their chest when they got close to you.
This was the typical way you learnt to process and handle your emotions, especially admiration and love. You knew it would be different than what Ananas was used to, they were a dragon after all, there was bound to be at least a few differences between upbringings and culture. I mean, it started simple enough. You tried to spend more time with them, you’d try to compliment them in ways that hinted that you liked them, you knew that you were blushing around them, but it felt like trying to come onto a brick wall. They weren’t reactive, or at least not in the way you wished they were. It usually ended in Ananas being a little bit suspicious or worried for your state, so you held off confessing. In return, things went as normal as they have been.
Ananas would greet you when you saw them in the morning, and would give you something to eat even if you had already eaten breakfast. They’d offer to get you things, but that wasn’t unusual. At least you didn’t think it was unusual, sure it was a recent change in their behaviour but it hadn’t been anything dramatic. You just assumed this was them being nice, or friendly, and it was rather nice of them.
You didn’t understand other’s looks of confusion when you explained the behaviour to them and how you assumed they didn’t understand your signals. Was there an obvious sign you were missing? It did cause you to ponder on your way to go see them.
“Y/N, you’re here.” Ananans smiled faintly, walking up to greet you. “How have you been?”
“It was nice to see everyone again.” You admitted with a shrug, “I forget how hard it is to leave every time.”
Ananas nodded, perhaps in an attempt to display sympathy for your situation, “it would be hard to leave where you call home.”
“It’s not quite like that,” you giggle with a shake of your head. “Home is where the heart is, I don’t just have one home. You’re here, that’s a home for me. My family is there, that’s also a home for me. If I leave one I am welcomed back to another, I’m not just leaving home all together.”
Ananas raised an eyebrow at that with a hum. “I suppose that would make sense. I’m glad you can see this place as your home as well.”
“Would you like me to see it as my home?”
Your smile grew slightly. “You’re being really nice as of late, what did you do?”
“What makes you think I did something?” They retorted casually, not taking offense to the accusation.
“I dunno, people usually want things when they start being super nice or they messed up.”
With that bold of a claim, you couldn’t help but giggle. “Right.”
“I suppose you could say I want something though,” they hummed softly, “perhaps the method was the wrong one to implement though.”
“Wrong method?” You frowned slightly, taking a step forward.
“It appears my… residence being far from most has left some of my skills out to rust.” Ananas shrugged, “nothing of concern though.”
“Oh really? Now you got me curious.” You took another step closer. “You want something from me?”
“Something in general.” They backpedaled.
“So you’re being nice to everyone?”
“Well- no- but-” Ananas huffed, pink tinting their cheeks, “it isn’t important.”
So you did, you let the topic drop despite your curiosity. Neither of you brought it up again though Ananas kept being nice towards you. It felt off to you though, knowing that they were doing it out of wanting something. You couldn’t exactly put your finger on why, so you remained silent about it.
Eventually, without noticing it for yourself, you started to avoid them. Perhaps it was due to the questions spinning in your head on what they were trying to gain through acting nicely, what exactly was the ulterior motive, and questions similar. When you did notice it, it was when you were sitting in your room and staring out the window. Perhaps it would be beneficial to approach them again? Worst case, they’d shut it down again and you’d be left even more confused.
You decided to confront them about it once a few days passed and you hyped yourself up about it. You stood in front of them, arms crossed, trying not to let your nerves show.
Ananas stared for a moment before chuckling. “Are we back on this again? Really?”
Ananas sighed despite grinning. “Why are you so worked up over that, Y/N? Everyone has a motive while doing anything.”
“I- Don’t go philosophy with me!”
“Okay, okay.” Ananas rolled their eyes before looking back into yours. “What do you actually want to know?”
You blinked a few times before shaking your head. “No! Not in general. For being nice and all that. I know you’re not usually nice to people.”
“Ouch.” Ananas snickered, placing a hand over their heart. “I guess I saw that coming though.
You puffed out your cheeks. “Stop joking around and answer the question!”
“That’s it? You guess? You don’t know?”
Ananas just sighed with a shrug, “my emotions are formed to be nothing like yours, yet emotions like yours are the only thing that has such specific labels for every change in sensation.”
“Well you have different words for sad, mad, happy, content, confused, upset, furious, so on. Sometimes they mean the same thing, sometimes they mean different things, so I can only assume that there’s a difference in sensation.”
“But for me there is little difference between emotions and physical reactions to such, it’s not worth the naming hassle.” Ananas waved their hand dismissively.
You could really only stare. It was a bit strange to be having this conversation about emotions with emotions being explained by someone who said they don’t exactly feel emotions strong enough to bother defining them. Of course, you supposed, it made enough sense because it’s not like you would feel the difference.
“So you think you like me?”
“Correct.” Ananas nodded.
You didn’t expect the heat that bloomed across your cheeks. “But if you don’t like me then-”
“But I want you.” They cut you off, taking a step closer. “Like or dislike, I want you in my life. I want to see you everyday. I want to make you smile, make you happy, make you excited. I want to help you when I can and I would like to protect you and make you feel safe. What does it matter if my emotions may be labelled wrong when I consciously want you?”
“...Yes. I- I do want that.”
