So there's this Halle line (said to Mello) in that bathroom scene that's not in the English version of the text
In the VIZ English version it's:
"So what are you going to do? Live in the bathroom?
It's okay with me. I don't mind having you around."
It's mostly the same, but the huge difference is that instead of the "I don't mind having you around" line, Halle says that she "doesn't dislike/hate" Mello (あなた 嫌いじゃないし / anata kiraijanaishi), that's why she's fine with him living in her bathroom. She DOESN'T DISLIKE him, meaning she LIKES him.
Lol, no wonder. Whenever I think of this scene, the Japanese dialogue is my default. I literally didn't even know that the English version doesn't say the "I don't dislike you" line. Like I thought I was crazy that people never seem to bring this up when discussing Mello and Halle, that Halle indirectly says she likes Mello.
The "I don't mind having you around" line makes it seem like Halle is just tolerating Mello, while the "I don't dislike you" line is coy and playful while being sincere at the same time. Halle cares about him, and she won't abandon him or throw him out even when her betrayal of the SPK might very well be discovered. Their alliance (and relationship) is solid.
You can infer that there's something about Mello or something he does that makes Halle like him, which she most certainly has seen as he's been with her for a week at this point, after he blew up his mafia hideout. Also, in the Japanese version, you can even say that it's implying that Halle wants Mello to extend his stay with her.
There's more stuff like this in the official English text, where the VIZ localization flattens Mello into a one-dimensional, generic, edgy bad boy and makes him out to be rude and more of an a-hole.
