I've been seeing a lot of discussion lately in the witchy community regarding Lilith and whether or not Jews lay some half-baked "claim" on her.

So I decided, as an enthusiast of the history of the abrahamic faiths, to give my ten cents.. because Gwaedlladd knows that just my two cents wouldn't be enough.

Lilith is technically Jewish.. but only in the same way that Mithras is technically Roman.

That is to say.. she isn't. Not really

Both are foreign deities (in Lilith's case, Mesopotamian) with a native (exilic-period Judean) coat of fanficy paint.

Only two groups of people could possibly argue with this.

The Jews.. who would obviously be biased towards their own faith (since at the end of the day, Jewish religion is still a religion. I don't know how many of you need to be told that but there you go).

People who genuinely believe that Lilith was a major character in the Bible.. and thus haven't done any real research on the figure outside of watching Supernatural and Hazbin Hotel.

Both groups would basically be doing the equivalent of saying the character of Spock from Star Trek belongs to Marvel comics because he knocked out Wolverine in a crossover once.

And just to drive the point home and get myself in as much trouble as possible.. yes, I am explicitly "talking over" your precious Jews right now.

Had this conversation a million times. Its no different from schools making kids do things related to valentines day. A day mostly aimed a specific sexual orientation and a specific romantic orientation .

Besides the kids at pride debate is one that wont stop existing untill the sun grows cold since no two lgbt+ people can agree on wether or not kids should have anything to do with pride. With kinksters saying generally saying no, people that hate kinksters saying yes (but no kinksters), and others falling somewhere in between them with compromises like the concept of sfw pride events aimed at promoting acceptance of lgbt+ peopke being seperated from ones aimed at kinksters. To name just one example.

Also the nestle one is just rainbow capitalism, meant to get lgbt+ to buy nestle. Nothing morem nothing less. Which by now you should know about.

The "is steam a monopoly" discourse is so interesting because of course the loudest people are the ill-informed.

The question is not from the consumer side, but from the publisher side. Many storefronts are publisher-specific walled gardens. Or Steam, or GOG. Since even larger publishers fail to pull people away from steam, a smaller publisher or independent developer would have little hope of their game being noticed if it's elsewhere. Most smaller, independent games on something itch.io go entirely unnoticed. GOG's whole deal is no DRM which publishers don't usually like.

Just because Steam may have found itself in a de-facto Duopoly it does not mean there's any real choice for publishers.
