Is it possible to not have a wing on an enneagram type? I noticed on your profile it said “(balanced)” and I’ve never seen that anywhere before.

Well here's the thing, I don't know. Someone told me you could be balanced, @naughty-nanny I think? I really don't feel like my 7 leans strongly in any particular direction. Friends also struggle to give me a wing but whether it is possible or not and whether or not I am just confused - I have no idea. Others plz feel free to contribute!

Oh I definitely have my moments, ask any of my flatmates! When I did the professional test and spent some time with a practitioner she noted I wasn’t a typical ENTP in two areas. The first area was that I preffered 1 on 1 or small group interactions over large group settings, a typically introverted trait. The other was that I scored very highly on the empathy scale (everything else was very much T). My parents always put a big emphasis on empathy and kindness whilst growing up, my ENFP brother and I know how to talk to anyone be they the CEO or the cleaner. I can’t speak for other ENTPs but I definitely went through a phase of covering this up and trying to be the ‘badass’ ENTPs are supposed to be. I have never been cruel though. My ISFP friend once said to me “I’m secretly a bitch and you’re secretly a nice person.” That summarises it well.

I am warm to most I meet but distant (a trait my brother also has) my EXFJ friends are often warmer but make a quick real connection with people. Whilst I am nice (ish as I’ve said I do have my moments. A lot of my humor is made at my own and other’s expenses) I make no real connection for a long while. Having said that, out of all of my peers I am the first to help somebody who needs it. I have been attacked standing up for people and will run across the street if it looks like someone needs help or if someone has fallen over etc… it was simply what I was taught to do, not really a reflection on me as a person.

I have been described as a gentle spirit and I laughed at the thought of the MBTI community going up in arms about an ENTP being called gentle. I don’t think the individual was neccesarily wrong and rather than fighting against it, I am much happier to accept my gentle nature now that I am a bit older.

Don’t get me wrong, gentleness doesn’t mean weak. I just scored oddly on the empathy scale because it was instilled in me as a child. It is just an example of how not all ENTPs are the same and how upbringing makes a big difference.

This is a very dumb question… we’re individuals not a type. We’re not all the same. We have developed our functions and shadow functions differently. Yeah sure, there are things we can definitely relate to but that doesn’t mean we’re the same. Imagine how boring that would be. I’m not saying everyone is special. I’m just saying the conditions we grew up are different. If someone is an asshole it’s not because of his/her type but because they’re an asshole. If someone is manipulative, it’s not because of his/her type, but because they have an unhealthy state of mind..

Yeah this is low si so it is associated with NPs. You not being like that isn’t really proof that it’s not.

I only suggested this as quite a few NPs said they too did not relate to it. Though of course it is still a woefully small sample size. It's a soft (psuedo?) science, challenging sacred cows and stereotypes should be encouraged, hence why I began the conversation and asked for input :)

Mmh… I am pretty sure Sp blindness just makes it worse, but as far as I know, even Sp dom or fix ENxPs seem to say they still forget to eat and drink or at least neglect those needs. It seems less worse for INxPs from what I observed, but still somewhat terrible.

In fact, from what I understand of Sp, Sp is not much about eating, drinking or sleeping adequately in itself, but having the necessary to survive; be it having money to pay the bills on time, having food, a stable place to live, a job, having insurances in case of an eventual disaster, not doing threatening things for the person’s life…

My INFP and INTP ex bf were Sp dom and they were aware of their body state and needs, but they were still somehow neglecting those needs anyway on a regular basis. Sleeping and eating too much or not enough, poor food choices, no physical activity… In general, they were more caring about if they had the necessary to survive then their body needs themselves. They were better to manage money, even if they were still a bit impulsive about it, and get food when needed. And never were they doing reckless shit like spending hundred of dollars for drinks in a restaurant like my ENTP sp blind friend already did many times already. Or just getting thousands of dollars in dept like that same friend and another of my ENFP sp blind friend because of their *sp voice* stupid priorities… (ex: buying video games instead of investing for food errands or paying their student loan).

Same for me, I care more about if I got the necessary then look out for what my body needs in the moment. As long as I got the stuff to survive, I am relieved.

So idk, but the stereotype of low S doesn’t seem inaccurate either and the Sp instinct doesn’t seem that much to counter the low S “effect”. It helps, but that’s about it.

That’s interesting. I have literally never neglected my body. I overtrain and do too much exercise even when I know I’m injured and shouldn’t. So perhaps that could be a kind of neglecting? But maybe having an athletic upbringing has made me more conscious of what my body needs? If I don’t eat I get dizzy and cranky and can’t be productive and I need to drink at least 2L of water a day. I take loads of Multi-Vitamins etc… I just feel a real drive to be healthy… I have been described by a clinician as a perfectionist though so perhaps it is all bred out of that?

It is interesting to think about.

Have you considered being ESTP instead of ENTP? Or at least, having Se instead of Ne? Again, as far as I know and have observed, high S types seem to be more prone to be this aware of their body and its need. I know Se dom and aux tend to be pretty active, not necessarily in the exclusive sense of training or doing exercises, but it seems a pretty consistent pattern for high Se.

I know my ISFP mom gets pretty cranked up when she doesn’t eat enough in a day or if she doesn’t have something to drink “regularly”. When she is hungry, it is time to eat NOW for her, or else she gets irritated easily. She cannot neglect her body needs without feeling mental or physical consequences. She also must be active or do physical tasks or else she feels bad and exhausted. As compared to me, I will also have consequences, but I will be mostly oblivious to them because too stuck somewhere else in my mind. And I will rather be exhausted if I do too much physical tasks than if I don’t, and I mean mental exhaustion.

I believe high Si too could be related to similar behavior patterns, but I am not as assured of this one. The high Si users I know tend to be pretty consistent in their exercising habits or at least enjoy to take care of their body or physical comfort (or other’s…).

My ESFJ friend eats at precise time and is extremely picky about what she eats. When it is about exercising, she is also more picky about what she does and how she does certain things. She will have a personal method to do those exercises or physical task.

It is only mere examples and personal observations though, so idk how much of it is totally attributable to Se and Si.

To go as far as over exercise and ignoring injuries, it could maybe attributed to Sx dom obsession/intensity… But not in an healthy way though at this point. Your body or exercising may have become a “passion” to you and that’s why you won’t or don’t want to stop doing it even though it is past your limits. Idk why you would become this “focused” on your body, but that could also be related to some of your core fears. That’s just a guess though, don’t take my words too seriously nor too personally x’) But it seems a potential explanation for this.

I knew this would be a likely suggestion and I appreciate your wanting to help! I'm not certain about much in life, but i'm pretty convinced that I'm Ne dominant . I have been professionaly tested twice now (albeit by the same practitioner) and anyone that knows me would agree. Honestly, I wish I was Se dominant sometimes. My boyfriend is an ISTP and I envy his 'presentness' and I can throw something at him without him looking and he'll catch it... like what the hell. Because whilst I love sport I'm not great at them except sports that are stamina/strength based (swimming, rowing). Watching me play sports like dodgeball is beyond awkward. Also, you should see my driving...there is a lot of drifting towards the pavement...

I think it is a good example of the blueprint not being the terrain, not everyone is the same and statistically there is more deviation within a group than between groups. I fit a lot of the stereotypes but not all.
